CAMPI Announces Motor Show Schedule

Optimism hasn’t been any higher for the 13 members and affiliates of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. or CAMPI as they have officially announced the dates of the fourth Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS). Slated from Thursday, 16 August to Sunday, 20 August 2012 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, this year’s show carries the theme of: “Drive the Fun”.

A play on the Philippine Department of Tourism’s “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” campaign, “Drive the Fun” promises that the fourth outing of PIMS will feature a dazzling exhibition of concept cars, prototype vehicles, latest products, and sneak previews from the different CAMPI members and affiliates while promoting the country as a tourism destination and investor haven.

Aside offering the latest that CAMPI members have to offer, the fourth PIMS continues the advocacies set by past shows including the “My Drive+Earth” campaign which raises awareness in developing energy-saving technologies and fuel-efficient transport for the masses. As a result, the fourth PIMS will also showcase hybrids, clean-burning diesel-powered vehicles, fuel-efficient gasoline engines, among others.

The 13 members of CAMPI: Asian Carmakers Corporation (BMW), CATS Motors, Inc. (Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge), Columbian Autocar Corporation (Kia), Columbian Manufacturing Corporation (Daewoo Bus), Honda Cars Philippines, Inc., Isuzu Philippines Corporation, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation, Nissan Motor Philippines, Inc., Suzuki Philippines, Inc., Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation, Universal Motors Corporation (Nissan LCVs), Dreamco Automobile Co., Inc. (JMC), and Lexus Manila, Inc. announced that the show will occupy the entire three main halls of the World Trade Center as well as the adjacent tent. This brings the entire show area to about 15,100 square meters.

“The timing of the fourth PIMS could not have been better,” said Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, the President of CAMPI. As he pointed out the organization’s strong performance in May—registering a 30.7 percent year-on-year sales growth. “This is a clear sign that the industry is on the road to recovery and is achieving its targets in the industry road map,” he added.

Under the industry road map, CAMPI expects to attain the following targets by 2016: the increase in production output to 285,000 units from the current 14,265 units as of May 2012; increase in domestic CKD sales to 195,000 units; maintain localization levels to at least 40 percent, export 90,000 vehicles; and increase parts export to US$ 4.8-billion from US$ 3.8-billion as of end-2011.

“With the introduction of new car models, improved supply conditions, sustained consumer confidence, and the country’s thriving economy, we at CAMPI are confident that the local auto industry will attain our 2022 vision for the Philippines to be a competitive manufacturing base of motor vehicles and parts and components, serving both the domestic and export markets,” said Atty. Gutierrez.

The Philippine International Motor Show will feature activities such as automotive photography and scale model exhibits, technical and garage workshops, outdoor activities such as car club meets and test drives, presentations of CAMPI members, special auto financing promotions, and nightly entertainment shows.
