Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Bullish for 2nd Half
In spite of the supply constraints experienced during the start of this year, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. (MMPC) registered total sales of 16,956 units in the first half of 2012 representing modest sales growth of 0.5% compared to the same period last year. With these numbers, Mitsubishi remains to be the second best selling brand in the country as it cornered 23.3% market share based on consolidated reports of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA).
MMPC posted increases on several segments based on year-to-date comparison of figures. Light Commercial Vehicle increased by a double digit of 28% with 16,198 units sold as compared to 15,759 units sold during the same period last year. Fuso Trucks and Bus year-to-date sales also contributed as truck sales slightly increased by 6.7% while bus sales registered 53.8% increase.
Meanwhile, the Montero Sport remains to be the bestselling SUV and the second bestselling vehicle in the country with a total of 6,506 units sold for the first six months. As of June 2012 MMPC has sold more than 40,000 units of Montero Sport since it was introduced in 2008.
MMPC remains to be positive that the second half of this year will result in higher growth for the Mitsubishi brand. Apart from the expected higher demand for the remaining six months brought about by higher consumer spending, aggressive bank promotions, lower interest rates and more OFW remittances, MMPC will be banking on its refreshed model line-up which will be introduced in the second semester. This will include a stronger passenger car line up as MMPC introduces the new 1.6 liter Lancer EX this month and soon to be launched eco-friendly and trendy all new Mirage. A sneak preview of this all new Mirage will be held at the CAMPI 4th Philippine International Motor Show which is scheduled next month at the World Trade Center. With the best value for money, stylish exterior and interiors, fun to drive and top of its class features, the all new Mirage is expected to improve MMPC’s presence in the passenger car segment.
