Ford Unveils All-New F-150, Now with 2.7-liter Ecoboost
The Philippines hasn’t seen the Ford F-150 for quite some time, but in the good, old U.S. of A, it still rules and is still is the best-selling vehicle there. For that reason as well as its never ending rivalry with the Chevrolet Silverado is the reason why Ford is unveiling what they dub to be the “smartest, most capable” F-150 yet. Well, they didn’t say it would be the most bad ass.
From the photos, it’s clear that the all-new Ford F-150 isn’t shying away from chrome. It’s got a front grille very reminiscent of a full-sized trailer. The three horizontal bars are there, but then add Lincoln-like perforations in the middle and you’ve got the F-150. The front headlights are squared-off but nicely detailed with the grille seemingly cutting into them. At the back, even more chrome between the LED tail lamps.
The design direction of the all-new F-150 may also hint at future full-sized Ford SUVs including the Expedition.
So while the all-new F-150 isn’t exactly beautiful for everyone, there’s no denying that this is one smart mother. For instance, it’s got 11, yes that’s eleven, class-exclusive features including: a 360-degree view camera to help the driver park and maneuver the pick-up around tight spots; integrated loading ramps; LED headlamps and tail lamps; remote tailgate; and Ecoboost.
The last is particularly interesting since it marks yet another addition to Ford’s growing downsized, turbocharged engine line-up. The all-new 2.7-liter Ecoboost V6 features twin turbos and a compacted graphite iron cylinder block—the first use of such technology. This gives the 2.7 Ecoboost a very robust design while maintaining a relatively light weight. All in all, the 2015 Ford F-150 weighs some 700 pounds or roughly 320 kilograms lighter than its predecessor while pushing out some 320 horsepower and 508 Nm of torque. This new engine will complete the F-150’s engine range which includes a normally-aspirated 3.5 V6, a 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6, and a 5.0 V8.
