Hyundai Intrado is Advanced Fuel Cell Concept, Design Linked to Future Tucson?
At the Geneva Motor Show, Hyundai is showing off its newest fuel cell concept, the Intrado. This is the first model to be designed under the direction of Peter Schreyer, who became the President and Chief Design Officer of the Hyundai Motor Group in January 2013.
Influenced by aircraft design, the Intrado takes its name from the underside of an aircraft’s wings—the part that creates lift. The Intrado’s use of lightweight material as well as the removal of all unnecessary weight is clearly influenced by aviation as well. The Intrado features exposed carbon fiber elements on the doors, hood, and trunk highlighted by Beaufort Orange contrasts.
The Intrado uses a next-generation hydrogen fuel-cell that utilizes a 36 kWh Lithium-Ion battery. It can be refueled in just a few minutes and travel up to 600 kilometers. Though the Intrado is purely a concept, speculation abounds that it will greatly influence the design of the all-new Tucson compact crossover.
