Michelin Supports the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia Happening this Weekend
Michelin, in global partnership with Shell, welcomes the Philippines in hosting its first Shell Eco-Marathon, an innovative motoring event at a specially built track around the Quirino Grandstand from today until February 9, 2014.
The Shell Eco-Marathon is an international competition wherein student teams create an energy-efficient vehicle that promotes sustainable mobility solutions. A long-time supporter of the Shell Eco-Marathon, Michelin becomes the Official Global Paddock Partner and Tire Supplier of the event in 2014. The partnership will contribute and add considerable value to the event, particularly with regards to innovation, technology, sustainability, mobility, and tackling future energy challenges.
The event, which traces its history back to 1939 will comprise three global events this year: Manila, Philippines (Asia), Houston, USA (Americas), and Rotterdam, Netherlands (Europe). Over 150 teams from 17 countries in Asia with 18 teams from the Philippines will be participating in the Shell Eco-Marathon this weekend.
Michelin, a global partner of the Shell Eco-Marathon, is the primary choice of tires used by the various vehicles participating in the Shell Eco-Marathon. Throughout the event, Michelin will be assisting the teams of student engineers through expertise, products, and collaborative opportunities.
“Michelin and Shell share the same value to put innovation at the heart of developing better mobility, to make it safer, cleaner, more efficient, and more enjoyable. This is totally in line with our company purpose of giving people “a better way forward,” said Damien Hallez-Gozard, Michelin Group Technical Communication.
Michelin has developed low rolling resistance tires that contribute to lengthening the duration of the vehicle’s travel time. The Michelin tires used for the Shell Eco-Marathon have a strategic balance of components developed through Michelin Total Performance—a trademark of the brand that guarantees that the tire delivers optimal safety, energy efficiency, and are long-lasting. The Michelin tires used in the Shell Eco-Marathon are approximately 6 times more efficient than one of the best energy efficient tires on the market today, the Michelin Energy EV.
Along with supporting the various teams with tires and assisting them with technical know-how, Michelin is also showcasing and demonstrating their product performance through their exhibition at the Partner Innovation Village inside the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia compound at the Quirino Grandstand.
The public can catch exhibits, forums, and discussions at the Innovation Village throughout February 7 to 9. Michelin is inviting the public to visit its booth to learn and experience more about Michelin Total Performance.
