Polo Action Heats Up in 11th Zobel Memorial Polo Cup
The recent 11th staging of the prestigious Enrique Zobel Memorial Polo Cup at the Manila Polo Club in Makati City also became a showcase of premium Porsche, Audi, and Bentley vehicles – particularly the new Bentley Flying Spur.
The ultra-luxurious new Bentley Flying Spur saloon, the official tournament trophy car, was presented in the middle of the Enrique Zobel Field by Zobel Foundation chair Dee Zobel, PGA Cars directors Roberto Coyiuto III and Benedicto Coyiuto, and E. Zobel, Inc. CEO Iñigo Zobel.
Later, players on horseback galloped onto the grass for the ceremonial ball throw-in, executed by Dee Zobel to signal the start of the game.
It was a rousing, action-packed match between the Bentley Whites and Audi Grays capped by the impressive debut of Argentinian Juan Jauretche, the highest-rated player in the match. The Argentinian rider delivered five goals off his mallet, while Gus Aguirre finished the job with two additional points to trump the Grays 7-5. The Whites also benefited from excellent playmaking of Iñigo Zobel and Cole Aguirre. The Grays were led by businessman Mikee Romero who was joined by Matias Orlando, Gaston Beguerie, and Santi Lujan.
Meanwhile, Audi Reds nipped the Bentley Greens in the low-goal match. Paola Zobel, Manot Montilla, Alfie Araneta, and Benjie Toda carried the Reds to a slim 3-2 victory, courtesy of two goals by Montilla and one by Toda. The Greens were bannered by Jay De Jesus, Vince Bitong, Jose Constantino, and Fiola Labron.
Dee Ann Zobel, Roberto Coyiuto III, Benedicto Coyiuto, and Manila Polo Club general manager Lei Policarpio presented the winners to the cheering gallery of spectators.
The latest of PGA Cars’ Audi and Porsche models made their entrance onto the polo field including the A1 Sportback, the A6 executive sedan, and the Q3 compact crossover – along with Porsche’s rear-wheel drive sports car Cayman S and the Cayenne V6 SUV.
Guests got up close to these and other fine vehicles on display at the Manila Polo Club grounds including, of course, Bentley, new Flying Spur and the Continental GT V8; the latest premium offerings from Audi: the compact executive A4, the Q5 mid-sized SUV, and the super-stylish executive hatch A7 Sportback; and, finally, the luxury sports cars of Porsche: the Boxster S, the Cayman S, the high-performance SUV Cayenne GTS, and the Panamera V6 sports sedan.
