The Ford Everest Concept takes center stage at Ford’s sprawling pavilion at the 35th Bangkok International Motor Show showing the Blue Oval’s commitment to a product-led transformation that promises segment-leading global vehicles for Thailand as well as the ASEAN region.

The Ford Everest Concept is the same one that the company showed off in Australia late last year. Despite being called a concept, the Everest Concept, upon closer inspection, looks very close to production ready with none of the typical concept cars cues such as the weird/thin side mirrors, outrageous wheel/tire combos, and fancy headlights. Although no mechanical details were shared during the presentation, it’s no secret that the Ford Everest shares its underpinnings with the Ranger, so expect the same 2.2-liter 4-cylinder and 3.2-liter inline-5 engines mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. Expect of course a different rear suspension because of the unique requirements of the mid-sized SUV market as well as a shorter wheelbase.

In addition, the Ford Everest promises to adhere to Safety—one of Ford’s brand pillars and will come with technology such as Electronic Stability Program with Hill Start Assist. Inside, it’s equipped with Ford’s SYNC in-car infotainment interface. Other standout features of the Everest Concept include LED daytime running lights and park lights ala EcoSport.

Being production-ready and all, it’s expected that the showroom version of the Ford Everest will bow in late 2015 at the latest (for the 2016 model year) since it’s expected to be, among others, a replacement to the Ford Territory—a three-row crossover made for the Australian market (though rumors persist that Ford may indeed unveil the production Everest as early as late 2014).

Ford expects that 60-70 percent of their sales growth to come from the Asia-Pacific region and believes that vehicles such as the Ford Everest will lead the charge.
