BMW continues its product diversification by launching the X4 which is essentially an X3 with a more coupe-like roofline. From the outside, the X4 is clearly sportier with the larger air intakes, sweeping roofline (highest actually above the driver), and muscular rear-end. The X4 is available with LED headlight technology along with L-shaped LED tail lamps. It measures 4,671 mm making it longer than the X3 but is also 36 mm lower (1,624 mm height).



Front passengers sit 20 mm lower than the X3 while the rear passengers sit 28 mm lower, giving the X4 a more “coupe-like” feel. But, it still manages to be practical with its rear seat which folds in a 40/20/40 split-fold maximizing at 1,400 liters of luggage space. The X4 can also be fitted with a power tailgate. Since the X4 is intended to be a more premium model, it offers more wealth of standard equipment compared to the X3 including variable sport steering, Performance Control, and Park Distance Control at the back.

Propelling the X4 is a wealth of gasoline and diesel engines. For gas versions, the xDrive35i boasts 306 horsepower from its inline-6 engine. Meanwhile for something a bit more practical, there’s the xDrive28i with 245 horsepower. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic. For lean-burning diesels, the X4 uses the 3.0-liter inline-6 with 313 horsepower and 630 Nm. The entry-level xDrive20d meanwhile uses a newly developed diesel engine with 190 horsepower and 400 Nm.



BMW is also launching an M Sport package for the X4 which nets you a unique sports suspension and interior trim, M Aerodynamic package, and a choice between 18, 19, or even 20 inch alloy wheels.
