Jeep Launches a Trail-rated Small SUV, Calls it Renegade
Jeep has just released a trail-rated small SUV called the Renegade. Jeep has actually called the Renegade the most capable small SUV and the best part? It’s a global vehicle meaning there’s good chance we’ll get to see it here in the Philippines!
The Renegade may look cute, but don’t be fooled—this is one capable small SUV. For starters, it offers two of the most advanced and intelligent 4x4 systems which can deliver up to 100 percent of the engine’s available torque to any wheel for optimal grip. There are two versions: the Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low—a class-exclusive full-time 4x4 system with a 20:1 crawl ratio. In addition, the Renegade is the first small SUV that features a disconnecting rear axle and power take-off unit (PTU) providing better fuel economy. The system switches to 4x4 mode automatically when traction is needed.
If you wish for something Trail-Rated, the Renegade Trailhawk has the aforementioned Jeep Active Drive Low; Selec-Terrain with Rock mode; increased ride height; skid plates; a 30.5-degree approach, 25.7-degree breakover, and 34.3-degree departure angle; up to 205 mm of wheel articulation; and 480-mm water fording capability.
The Renegade is designed around a distinctive theme title “Tek-Tonic” which is an interplay of soft, tactile forms with rugged and functional details. Major surfaces such as the sculpted soft-touch instrument panel are intersected with bold functional elements like the passenger grab handle – indispensable for off-road adventures and borrowed from its big brother, the legendary Jeep Wrangler. Unique “protective clamp fasteners,” anodized design accents and inspired colors are derived from extreme sports equipment, while the newly familiar “X” shapes inspired by its roof and tail lamps add to Renegade’s Tek-Tonic interior look. And to make sure all of the needed passenger gear fits, the Renegade is designed with an efficient and flexible interior package that includes a removable, reversible and height-adjustable cargo floor panel and fold-forward front-passenger seat.
Since the Renegade is designed to be global vehicle, Jeep is offering it with 16 powertrain combinations including 4 gasoline and 2 diesel engines, two manual and dual clutch automatic, and the segment’s first nine-speed automatic.
