Suzuki Philippines Quietly Updates Grand Vitara for 2014 (w/ Complete Specs)
Suzuki Philippines has quietly updated their compact crossover, the Grand Vitara, for the 2014 model year. And though the changes are purely cosmetic, the biggest news is a much more affordable price tag: P 1,160,000. In other words, for the price of a typical compact sedan, you can make your way up to a Japan-built compact crossover.
For the 2014 model year, the Suzuki Grand Vitara gets a new grille and front bumpers. The bumpers now incorporate a silver-finished over rider for a much more rugged look. At the size, a new alloy wheel design serves as the main highlight while side-mirror turn signal repeaters give it a dash of modernity. At the back, not much has changed though so the Grand Vitara continues with its rear-mounted spare tire cover and multi-reflector tail lamps.
Underneath, the 2014 Grand Vitara is solely available as a two-wheel drive model (rear-wheel drive). Powering it is a longitudinally-mounted 2.4-liter engine (J24B) with 168 horsepower and 227 Nm of torque. The only available transmission is a 4-speed automatic. Stopping power is provided by front and rear vented disc brakes and grip is ensured by the 225/65R17 alloy wheels. The all-around independent suspension (MacPherson Strut front, Multi-Links back) ensures surefooted cornering.
Inside, the 2014 Grand Vitara remains the same. It still seats five adults and a maximum luggage space of 1,386 liters (with rear seats folded). The main upgrade is in the entertainment system which sees an upgraded audio system. Now, it incorporates the ubiquitous auxiliary audio jack to go with the usual CD/MP3/WMA set-up. Sound is pumped through 6 speakers. Aside from the sound system, the 2014 Grand Vitara also receives the luxury of an automatic climate control system.
The 2014 Suzuki Grand Vitara is now available at all Suzuki Auto dealers in five colors: White, Silver, Grey, Black, and Brown.
Just had a new Grand Vitara 2014. Wondering why everytime I/we were stepping-out of the car, even on a short drive extraordinary heat coming out underneath the vehicle was being felt and noticed. At first, I was suspecting the brake system since extraordinary were felt on all Mag Wheels. But when I had tested another new unit and it was lifted up, together with the Suzuki mechanics, we found out the extraordinary heat was coming from exhaust system.
ReplyDeletesir Arceo the extraordinary heat that you've just felt from your Grand Vitara after a short or long distance is just normal and I support what does the mechanics said to you. for example(1) try to heat up your oven at 30 to 40 degrees centigrade for 4 mins then turn it off and open the door of the oven, and lastly (2) try to burn a mount-full of dry leaves with papers and plastic then stand there for about meters away while it's burning. These said examples will explain why it is like that. Just imagine sir that your 2.4L SUV is burning air-fuel mixture with almost a hundred centigrade per cylinders (w/ a total of 4 individuals) of its engine and is just cooled through a mixture of an engine coolant and distilled water by the use of an auxiliary fan, thermostat and water pump. Hope this will help you sir. Thank you.
DeleteSo far, wala akong problema na ganito sa Special Edion ko. Bought it last March
DeleteHows the performance of your SE so far? Im planning to get one, thanks.
DeleteI have the same experience. I asked the mechanics about it and told me the same thing. Though it kinda weird because the bottom is warmer than the surroundings even during summer time. I drove an explorer and a tiguan before in the US and it was winter - i never had that experience.
Deletethanks for the info. were they able to fix it?
ReplyDeleteA tech rep come from Manila to evaluate the car. The result the heat was from engine compartment and as per him was again normal.
ReplyDeleteMy test drive and ambient temperature monitoring near the catalytic converter the highest was 614 degrees centigrade.
Sad to say until they do not have decision on what to do with problem. Maybe lucky that we already Lemon Law for consumer's protection, daw.
I have a 2010 Grand Vitara. When my windshield needed replacement 2 years ago, they do not have an available windshield, so item was ordered in Japan. i waited for 2months.
ReplyDeleteThen 2013, my taillight got hit by a bus. Again, no replacement available. Order was placed, Nov 2013, item arrived, end of February 2014.
Now, after 3years and 9months, my AC just stop working. ( this is my first, i owned few cars in the past, but never had this problem ). Their diagnosis, blower replacement. AGAIN, they do not it available. I spoke with ***** from Suzuki - Insurance Department, and it's common problem. They do not parts available.
So my suggestion, DO NOT BUY GRAND VITARA, and for SUZUKI, STOP SELLING GRAND VITARA

Thanks for the feedback. I almost bought one.
DeleteTHANKS A LOT MELISSA.. . I HAVE ALSO DOUBT BEFORE RE: THE AVAILABILITY OF THE PARTS.
DeleteGot my Grand Vitara SE last Mar.3.I love the response and handling. The only complain I have is, it does not have an Auto Door Lock function when you start driving and the Auto Unlock function when the engine is turned off. My Fortuner automatically locks the doors upon reaching 30 kph and automatically unlocks when the engine is turned off.
ReplyDeleteHow's the FC for 2014 or 2015 for Grand Vitara? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteDepends on your driving habit. Kung hataw, I think nasa 6 kpl lang. Kung suave, mga 7-8 kpl.
Delete9km/l if provincial driving at 80kph. U go beyond 90 and ur consumption just hits the roof.
Deletesheesh buti na lang saw this post! now shopping for my first small suv and reading reviews. thanks for this post.
ReplyDeletejust bought a brand new standard edition for 900,000 php from a raffle winner.. from the srp of 1,160,000 php if i buy from dealers.. was it a good deal?
ReplyDelete2.4L engine with 4 speed a/t. Rationale?
ReplyDeleteI love the suspension, and the handling! Though I was surprised by the fuel consumption - buti na lang nasa 36/ltr na lang ang gas. It was a pain when the gas was at 45/ltr.
ReplyDeleteWe bought it because of the large engine displacement and the cheaper tag.
I only have one issue which the mechanics cannot figure out, it smells like clutch fluid inside the car when I accelerate from 60kph to 120kph. The smell disappears after a minute or so.
I guess that's what you get for a cheap SUV.
Anyone has this issue?
Anong year model po ang grand vitara nyo?
DeleteAnong year model po ang grand vitara nyo?
DeleteExperienced that too
DeleteDo we have an official Grand Vitara Club in the Philippines.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Hoping of that club too Sir.
ReplyDeleteI have a grand vitara 2015 limited edition our problem is the thermostat. We change it but after a week it's still malfunction, some mechanics advice me that theirs no need of thermostat in philippine weather.
ReplyDeleteOne way drive galing bahay to office about 7km. and pauwi 7km. again city drive twice awik ako mag pagas fuel consumption ko less 6 km/L
ReplyDeleteI got a 2015 model from a bank repo outdoor parking in Feb 2020 with 17km on the clock. This car might have been under the heat for so long that the plastics became brittle, with some noise under the dash (I had that figured out though). I also notice too much engine or transmission vibration especially when reversing. It can be felt that the trunk covers rumbles.
ReplyDeleteA certain heat can be felt on my right foot especially on long drives that it makes my foot sweat wearing flip flops. Same goes when using if for work, I can feel the heat raging through my leather shoes.
Other than that, all is good. I like the power and thrust when overtaking, gives you that confidence. I also have a 2017 Ford Ecosport, needless to say of the difference in power.
I just got my 2016 grand vitara from bank repo. I didnt expect the fuel consumption to be really high at 4.8km/l do you guys have any suggestion which to check? Is this even normal? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteFuel mileage depends on your driving habits, but in my personal experience with the Grand Vitara 4x2, I got 6.7 km/L--and that already includes a weekend drive. Likely, if you're stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, that 4.8 to 5 km/L figure might be normal.

That said, if you want, you can have it checked also at your nearest Suzuki Auto dealership. A simple PMS may gain back some economy, especially if it has been sitting in a repossessed lot idle for some time.
