Kia Reveals a More Muscular Sedona MPV for 2015

Kia has taken the wraps off its all-new Sedona (local market Carnival) at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. The debut of Kia’s large MPV means that the Peter Schreyer transformation of the entire Kia range (at least in the US) is now complete.

The all-new Sedona carries CUV-like styling highlighted by the large front facia and cab-forward design. The Sedona now carries Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille along with headlights that integrate LED positioning lights. The Sedona is now some 41 mm longer than its predecessor with the front and rear overhangs reduced. At the back, rear LED tail lights, the integrated bumper guard, and rear spoiler present a stable appearance. Some models of the Sedona also ride on massive 19-inch rims creating a distinct look.

Inside, the all-new Sedona promises more front shoulder room in all three rows as well as a slightly higher hip point for the driver, improving visibility. Like other modern MPVs, the Sedona offers flexible seating options including a second row that slides and folds upright for excellent storage without removing the seats. Meanwhile, the third row seats fold in a 60/40 split. The Sedona is also the only MPV to offer spill-repellant, anti-static fabric seats with YES Essentials.

The 2015 Sedona rides on a stiffer body that’s 36-percent more rigid than its closest segment competitor. The body is made up of 76 percent ultra-high strength steel and high-strength steel. For improved ride, Kia has equipped the Sedona with Amplitude Selected Dampers (ASD) as well as revised rear cross-member bushings. The rear portion also features a new isolated sub-frame with longer trailing arms and additional rear strut reinforcement. New wheel-house padding, double seal sliding doors, and expanded use of sound-deadening all improve the Sedona’s quietness.

Under the hood, the Sedona uses a direct-injection 3.3-liter V6 engine boasting 276 horsepower. This engine is mated to a new 6-speed automatic.

The Sedona also promises to be one of the safest MPVs in the market with a huge array of passive and active safety features such as Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, Brake Assist, Hill-start Assist Control, Roll Over Mitigation, and Cornering Brake Control. Some models even over Blind Spot Monitoring, Smart Cruise Control, and Forward Collision Warning System.
