Motor Image Pilipinas, Subaru’s exclusive distributor in the Philippines, has officially revealed the pricing and specs of two new additions to its WRX and WRX STI line. These two new models are set to arrive in mid-September and are specifically designed with the ‘tuner’ crowd in mind. Both models offer a much more affordable price point with only a slight reduction in standard convenience features.
The WRX, which was initially offered as a CVT-only model during its launch earlier this year, is now joined by a new manual transmission variant. The WRX M/T is priced at P 1,818,000 which is a reduction of P 70,000 over its automatic transmission sibling. Equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, the WRX M/T uses the FA20DIT engine good for 268 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Aside from swapping the Lineartronic CVT for a traditional three-pedal set-up, the WRX M/T also sees the following changes to its standard features (CVT variant in parenthesis):
Exterior:
- Halogen headlights with LED ‘hawk eye’ park lights (LED headlights with ‘hawk eye’ park lights)
- Twist key ignition (Smart Entry keyless entry with push-button start/stop)
- Sport fabric seats (Sport leather seats)
- Manual driver’s seat (Power adjustable driver’s seat)
Along with the introduction of the WRX M/T, the winged version of the WRX STI makes a comeback. This new variant, priced at P 2,498,000, shares its mechanicals with the non-winged WRX STI (now called WRX STI Premium) from the 300 horsepower, 407 Nm of torque 2.5-liter EJ257 engine and the 6-speed manual transmission. However, opting for the wing does come with some compromises to other areas (WRX STI Premium in parenthesis):
Exterior:
- Large-type rear wing (No rear wing)
- 18-inch cast alloy black wheels (18-inch forged BBS alloy wheels)
- No moon roof (Moon roof)
- Manual driver’s seat (Power adjustable driver’s seat)
- Sport leather/alcantara seats (Sport leather seats)
Are the changes made to the manual WRX worth it? Is it priced just right or should it be even lower?
ReplyDeleteHonestly it should be lower. Like P 1.688M lower. But after driving it, the WRX MT is an awesome driving beast.
DeleteDon't buy the WRX or STI if you plan on the comfy ride. My friend has the STI and it's like riding a jeep when you sit at the back.
DeleteI would think that it should be lower considering all the options/amenities that were taken out.
ReplyDeleteDoes the MT WRX have the SI Drive too?
ReplyDeleteMT variant doesn't have SI Drive.
DeleteThey only deducted 70,000 from the CVT and yet there is a huge difference already. Yeesh.
ReplyDeleteso now the sti premium with wing would cost 2,598,000 plus 50k more or less for a wing depending on how good the negotiation gets :)
ReplyDeleteIf you want factory installed wing, then get the non premium version. I think dealer have to remove the lip trunk spoiler first in the premium version before they can install the rear wing.
ReplyDeleteIf you're talking about the STI Premium it doesn't come with the lip spoiler. Only the WRX has it. If you want to install the high wing on the WRX, you have to remove the lip wing first.
DeleteDoes the premium version have body kits installed?
