2014 Lateral Drift Held at the Historic Quirino Grandstand
Last August 23, 2014, Saturday, Twenty five Filipino drifters from the amateur and pro division burnt rubber and battled it out it at the historical Quirino grandstand parade grounds, a place where Filipino Presidents were inaugurated, and now paved way for another inauguration of third leg of the Hyundai Lateral Drift Champions.
Since 2005, Lateral Drift Productions have been the drift aficionados pressing to established global standards for the sport, pushing drifters to improve every year.
The growing popularity of drifting has drawn numerous car aficionados, The Genesis Coupe Club of the Philippines were invited to witness the event as they gathered and displayed their coupes beside the Quirino Grandstand. They were also treated to a shotgun ride using the 2014 Hyundai Genesis coupe driven by 6th time Lateral drift Champion Alex Perez of Team Yellow cab.
In the Amateur Division, Karr Montaner of Team Drive Hard Crew ranked first place; 16 year old Peter Scroth, Second Place; and Adrian Jonsay of Team GMW, Third Place.
In the Pro Division, it was 2011 Lateral Drift Champion, Audel Sison of Team Autocraft, who final got back in the grove and grabbed first place with his amazing sideways speed action. On 2nd place is last year’s defending champion Gio Rodriguez who still leads this year’s overall championship points with 234points and 3rd place Alex Perez who comes in with 207 Overall points.
The series will have 3 more legs remaining and the battle for overall championship is still up for grabs. The next leg, round 4 will happen September 20 at the newly built race track at Tarlac Recreational Park. The Hyundai Lateral Drift Championship Series will be the inauguration event to open this race track.
