Motor Image Pilipinas (MIP), the authorized distributor of Subaru in the Philippines, officially began its nationwide contest of the 2014 Subaru Palm Challenge Philippine Face-off by holding the first leg at SM Lanang in Davao City. Now going on its sixth year in the Philippines, its second year as a national search, the contest aims to find 10 mentally and physically strong challengers, from across the country, to represent the Philippines at the MediaCorp Subaru Challenge in Singapore this November 2014. There, they will go head to head with challengers from around Asia such as Singapore, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
This year’s participants grew in number from last year with 148 eager challengers joining the Davao leg in hopes of being the last man standing to get a chance to drive home a brand new Subaru XV if they win at the Media Corp Subaru Challenge.
Several challengers from last year’s Davao leg joined again this year in the hopes of representing the Philippines in Singapore. This includes last year’s Davao leg winner, 21-year-old Mr. Albert Saquillo, who posted a time of 12 hours 32 minutes and 55 seconds in 2013.
This year’s Davao winner, Mr. Roque Moncada, 30-years old, lasted the whole day with a total time of 12 hours 38 minutes and 06 seconds. He is the first challenger to join the Philippine team. Along with him will be 1 challenger from the Cebu leg and 8 challengers from the Manila leg.
This year’s prizes include exclusive Subaru merchandise and Php 5,000 for the top 9 challengers and Php 15,000 for the leg winner. Aside from this, should the last man standing from the MediaCorp Subaru Challenge come the Philippines, their grand prize is a brand new Subaru XV 2.0i worth Php 1,298,000.
Two more legs remain for the Subaru Palm Challenge Philippine Face-Off on the following dates and locations:
- September 13, 2014 – Ayala Center Cebu, Cebu
