Scania, one of the world’s leading manufacturer of trucks and buses for heavy transport applications, and of industrial, marine and power engines, has appointed BJ Mercantile, Inc. as the official sales & services dealer partner for the Philippines. Scania’s heavy-duty trucks, environment-friendly buses and powerful generators will soon become available to the local market. Not only that, local customers will also be able to experience the same level of high quality services Scania has been known to provide in more than 100 countries for more than 100 years.

The Philippines present a lot of opportunities for Scania given the continued growth of the mining industry and robust infrastructure development. In the 2014-2015 rankings of the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report, the Philippines is ranked 52nd out of 144 countries in terms of competitiveness, which takes into account a wide range of factors such as the state of infrastructure, the size of the local consumer market, the ease of doing business and resilience of the economy. This is a big jump from 2010 wherein the Philippines was ranked 85th.
