Maserati Centennial Gathering Wins International Historic Motoring 'Tour of the Year' Award (IHMA)
Luxury Italian automotive manufacturer, Maserati, was honored with the prestigious Tour of the Year Award at the 2014 International Historic Motoring Awards (IHMA) at a ceremony in London last week. The iconic Italian marque won the prize for its Centennial Gathering, a three-day tour which took place in Italy from the 18th to 20th September.
The International Historic Motoring Awards is in its fourth year of celebrating the skills and achievements of the worldwide historic motoring industry. After being nominated by classic car enthusiasts around the world, an international judging panel of experts including racing drivers Derek Bell and Jochen Mass, Horst Brüning (President of the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens) and Dr. Franz-Josef Paefgen (former Chairman of Bentley), announced Maserati as the winner of the award.
The winning Maserati Centennial Gathering involved a unique three-day ‘Modena to Turin’ tour bringing together a spectacular array of over 200 cars and 500 collectors from all over the globe.
The tour started in Maserati’s spiritual home of Bologna with a visit to the Fountain of Neptune; where the inspiration for the iconic Trident badge came from. The celebrations saw a unique collection of the most significant cars of the last 100 years and finished in the Maserati factory in Turin where the luxury Italian manufacturer’s latest models, the Ghibli and Quattroporte, are built.
The International Historic Motoring Awards includes 14 categories and is held in association with Octane magazine and private bank EFG International. The awards ceremony was hosted by racing driver, journalist and television presenter Tiff Needell in London’s St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel. The Maserati Centennial Gathering was selected over nominees including ‘Bentley Drivers Club, Europe by Bentley’, ‘The Grand Tour‘, ‘The Scottish Malts Reliability Trial and Classic Car Tour’ and ‘ASC Ein-und Zwei-Zylinder-Kriterium’.
Peter Denton, Region Manager, Maserati North Europe, said: “We are very proud to receive the Tour of the Year Award for the Maserati Centennial Gathering. This year, Maserati is celebrating 100 years in the engineering and luxury car industry, and we are delighted to be rrecognized through the International Historic Motoring Awards, at this significant milestone for Maserati.”
