Frankly, there was no compelling reason to consider an AUV in the first place until the Ertiga came along. Before that, they were all small, lumbering, ugly things which made parenthood seem more of a punishment than a blessing. Sure, they had three rows of seats, a chassis, an engine, and a body shell that barely resisted dings; but that was it. Calling it refined and great to drive is like having a three-foot long wooden nose. This isn’t largely the case with the Ertiga. By and large, it’s a godsend, a blessing which families on a budget certainly appreciate.
First up, it doesn’t look like an ent (those mythical tree-things from Lord of the Rings) even if it comes in a shade called Dusky Brown. It actually looks good. And modern. It’s based off the Swift and the handsome lines are rubbing off here. The front is the most striking part with the large, angular headlamps and the two-piece mesh grille. The rest of the design is much more understated, dictated by its function as an AUV (formal roofline, large door openings, etc.). Still, kudos for Suzuki for injecting some dose of style that’s well-proportioned and sleek.
Inside, it begins to look more like an ent with the beige treatment. You have to love brown since there’s not a whiff of black in here except for those on the controls and switch gear. It does the job of uplifting the cabin and giving it an airy feel, but it also makes it a pain to clean. This particular unit, for instance, has dirt, grime, oily residue, and even evidence of cheesy fingers. Imagine how much dirtier it’ll be after three or even five years of ownership!
Choice of interior color palette aside, at least it feels modern. The driving controls are all ergonomically sound with the steering wheel and the driver’s seat offering ample adjustment. Even controls to the audio and air conditioning (both for the front and rear occupants) are easily reached by the driver and can be operated by feel alone. The front thrones are supportive even for long drives and the visibility is good thanks to the expansive greenhouse. The driving position is high, but much more car-like compared to other AUVs. The gauges are also straight-forward and comes with a multi-function trip computer as a bonus.
Modern as it is, you’ll wish for a slightly bigger cabin. While the front occupants won’t have any qualms riding in it, the comfort of those residing in the second and third rows are largely dependent on the number of people you plan to squeeze in. If you treat it like a five-seater with generous cargo space, then everyone will be happy. The second row has enough space to rival mid-sized MPVs if the seats are slid all the way rearward. If you plan to use it as a seven-seater though, it will compromise the comfort of everyone in the second and third row. In order to accommodate two adults in the rearmost seats, the second row has to be moved forward to the point where occupant knees will brush against the seatback of those seated in front. It’s that tight. Flexibility isn’t its strong suit because the third row folds down as a single piece. Plus, it doesn’t help when stowing the third row requires you to move the second row seats forward first or they’ll end up nudged against the seatbacks.
With a chassis derived from the Swift, the Ertiga is a surprisingly capable and agile little number. It won’t corner like a sports sedan or sports wagon for that matter, but it’s still pretty enjoyable to toss around through curves and corners. The steering, being electrically boosted, is accurate and light (turning radius is just 5.2 meters) while body roll is largely contained. The tall Goodyear Duraplus tires (185/65R15) isn’t detrimental at all to the handling and actually enables better absorption of potholes and road cracks before they reach the cabin. The brakes though could use better bite. Nonetheless, it’s surprisingly quiet even at 100 km/h with controlled amounts of wind, road, and drivetrain noise. Meanwhile, the ride is largely dependent on where you’re seated. The first two rows will enjoy a highly cushioned (but not plush) ride, but those in the third row will end up banging their heads on the ceiling half the time.
As modern and quick to dance around corners as it is, it accelerates with the urgency of an ent. Powered by a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with 95 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque, pushing a 1,190-kilogram frame shouldn’t be an issue. However, because of the engine’s peaky nature, you’ll need to rev it hard just to get some decent pace going. Off the line, it feels quick, but as the speedometer climbs, progress noticeably gets slower. As the Ertiga hits 40, 50, 60 km/h, it loses steam. It feels most sluggish in the critical 50-80 km/h range—the so-called overtaking zone. Once you pass this, the Ertiga will gain second wind and power will come back on again. It’s like having turbo lag; only it appears in the middle instead of the beginning of the rev range. Equipped with a four-speed automatic, city fuel mileage is good at 10.4 km/L while highway mileage goes up to 19.2 km/L despite hitting 100 km/h at a high 2,650 rpm.
The Suzuki Ertiga may not hit all the marks, but it does hit a majority of them. Compared to other AUVs which are cumbersome compromises, the Ertiga doesn’t sacrifice much. Sure, the interior could be roomier, use a more stain-resistant color, and be more flexible; and it could certainly use more overtaking prowess as well. But at least, it’s easy on the pocket, loves the zigzags, and comes with manageable proportions. Driving an Ertiga doesn’t make parenthood feel like being in the penalty box of motoring anymore. It’s for that one single reason why it’s worthy of your consideration, especially if you’re on a budget.

Finally! Philippine review for Suzuki Ertiga. Good thing I own one. Very smooth and this MPV fits my family's needs.
ReplyDeleteNice little family car. The only negative point is that the beige seats are soiled easily. They should have used black fabric seats. Imagine the nightmare when kids barf or spill juice on that beige seat.

At least the Ertiga will still be around for the foreseeable future, unlike the Spin which will be phased out completely after 2015.

Comparing the two, the Ertiga is the better handling and is more car-like to drive. The Spin does feel more solid and robust. Straight line performance and fit/finish? Toss-up. Fuel economy? Ertiga.
With the exception of the rather ill-conceived seats, I'd say the Ertiga is the better one.

ReplyDeleteI like the part where Sir Uly said that this car "loves zigzag" and "better that the spin" which is definitely true. I own one and have driven it to Sagada. I didn't experience any handling problem. The car is responsive (not that fast though), but you dont need speed on zigzags. Very fuel efficient, I only spent 3k for the gas, Alabang-Banaue-Sagada-Baguio-Cavite and still have 1/4 tank left. That's with the horrible EDSA traffic and also got stuck in NLEX for almost an hour due to a road accident.

Usually more power would mean more fuel to be used, but with Ertiga based on ARAI testing 21.92 km/L highway 80-100km/hr 13.2 km/L light traffic.

Had a little test drive , you may call it , at caliraya when suddenly we saw a sister ertiga dusky brown and the whole family kept on waving at us, smiling as tho we already know each other. I just got my GLX A/T, ITS NOT FUEL EFFICIENT. IN CITY DRIVING ITS ONLY 7.7 KILOMETER,/Liter. and maybe in long distance drive, I estimate it only at 13 to 15 kilometer/ liter.

To all of you looking at this segment of the market, the 7-seater value MPV (Ertiga, Avanza, Spin, the older Grand Livina), wait a few more days and we will see the release of Honda's entry in this segment, the Mobilio, powered by the same 1.5L i-VTEC engine used in the Jazz & City. If you can't wait, check the specs & pics in the Honda India & Indonesia sites. I think the Mobilio has the best looks, interior & specs in this segment and would be a huge seller if its priced correctly at 700-900K. The Avanza looks cheap & primitive compared to the Mobilio.

Like Dual AC, Dual Airbags, ABS&EBD, All-power system, Security Alarm&Immobilizer, foglamps, keyless entry system, 810L maximum luggage capacity.
The Mobilio is too expensive for its segment offering almost the same as what the Ertiga and Spin can offer. Plus it does not look nice at all. It looks ugly. Seriously it does. Its body is lower than the Ertiga so it got less head room. For the family man its not a practical choice. For its price I'd rather go for an upscale vehicle like let's say an Innova. That's one of the reasons why up until now the Honda Mobilio sales still has not picked up yet. It lost to the Ertiga in India and it will continue to lose against the Ertiga in the PH too where practicality+functionality is very important

I saw 1 comment that he took his Ertiga to Sagada which is actually hard to believe having a 1.4 engine. Sure it can climb, but does it put too much stress in the engine?

I think ako ata yung nagpost ng Sagada trip ko sa tsikot or facebook page ng ertiga club (I cantremember), pero yes,nadala ko po sa Sagada yung Ertiga ko (GL manual). I only spent Php 3000 for gas. ALabang-Banaue-Sagada-Baguio-Cavite Route. 17 kpl ang FC, natrafik pa po ko sa EDSA and sa NLEX nung pauwi naman. So far I'm satisfied with my Ertiga. Owneda Toyota Altis and eto ang pinalit ko, nung una hesitant ako because of the brand, pero sabi sabi lang nila na pangit ang Suzuki pati after sales. If you'd get the Ertiga, it's a smart choice. Good luck po!

May nabasa ako na may limit lang na flash disk pwede. Pero kahit sundin ko yung limit at yung format ng flash disk error pa din eh. Salamat kung masasagot siya. Salamat.
ReplyDeletei am using an 8gig flash disk and it is working perfectly. I have noticed that the machine only reads songs saved in main folders or songs saved in the flash disk itself. It does not however, read songs saved in sub-folders (or folders within a folder).

DeleteFirst thing you should do is make sure that your flash drive is FAT32 format.
To do this, plug your usb into a computer.
in "MyComputer" right-click your flash drive and click on "Properties"
Under "General" tab you can check if the "File System" is FAT32 otherwise format it to FAT32 system.

Hi Everyone! I enjoyed reading this review mainly because majority is in favor for Ertiga. This is a FRONT WHEEL DRIVE right? But i haven't read one to comment on this issue. Is being a FWD really matters at all? Any opinion from anyone? Our Ertiga GL M/T Dusky Brown will arrive from Manila by first week of August this year and i'm so excited about it.

smooth running yung engine. minsan nga feeling ko naka patay yung engine kapag naka stop kami during traffic.

ReplyDeleteIf you just want the brand (For resale value or prestige) and you want to be more posh choose the Mobilio. It has very little to offer though and for its price range is no longer practical. It has a fair FC on Highway drives but still not better than the Ertiga's. But if you are looking for value for your money then choose the Ertiga. It has better FC than the Mobilio, Has more headroom, spacious interior for its size, very cool A/C even in hot days, looks better, bang for the buck car, despite its practicality it can compete and even outmatch more expensive vehicles in its class. Seats are very comfortable unlike the Mobilio's rather thin seats. I test driven a Mobilio and own an Ertiga.

DeleteI own a Suzuki Ertiga GL manual and I can vouch for its ride comfort and space. Allowing me and my family who's men and boys have an average height of 5'8. We are a family of two females and 6 males (My 5 year old kid included). We travelled to Bicol last April in our Ertiga and our youngest brother (5'8) took on the 3rd row with my 5yr old son. And my mom, step dad (5'11) and 3rd brother (5'10) took the middle row. While my wife sat up front beside me(5'8). At every pit stop I'd ask them for feed back and all I got were praises of how comfortable the ride was despite travelling on a full load. We were full but it was way more comfortable than being in the middle row of a Crosswind or Adventure according to my mom and brother. Then I'd ask our youngest since he chose the 3rd row. He said he felt very safe there and there were no issues regarding the space. You see the Ertiga may look cramped. But its not. It has generous space. As long as you are not really egging to look for faults in the car you'd be surprised at how comfortable all 3 rows actually are even on long road trips like the one we took. Sure it may lack power since it only has 130Nm of torque. Its Hp is decent though. For a family car 95Hp is more than enough. Horsepower is made more for speed, Although you can use a little more for safe overtaking. However there is a work around for this. I go behind the vehicle that I plan to over take first (drafting behind it helps gain momentum too), force a down shift and then initiate the over-take. This helps you get to the higher Rpms faster when you shift up. It is torque that you need to give the car more push especially when hauling 6 passengers. 180 or even just 160Nm of torque could have made it perfect. The Ertiga has got great Fuel economy both on City and Highway. Its easy to drive, very car like ride and little noise is heard at high speeds. Over-all its the perfect bang for the buck family car. Plus its very pleasing to the eyes as well. :D

Hello sa mga Ertiga Owners. Gusto ko lang malaman kung yung mga ertiga ninyo na glx A/T e tumutunog and break kapag nagrelease from full break? Kakarelease lang nung sa akin last thursday 7/16/2015 at dinrive ng wife ko kinabukasan going to Antipolo church to bless then nung natraffic na siya full break kapag stop at kapag nirerelease niya paa niya from break pedal may tumutunog sa ilalim. Is it normal? Disturb kami e. Kasi yung first car namin ay manual transmission di naman kami nakaencounter ng ganun. Sana mabigyan ninyo kami ng advice. Sabi ng agent namin normal daw sa automatic ang tumutunog ang break kapag binibitiwan, True po ba ito? Tnx!
ReplyDeleteYes sir ganun po talaga kapag automatic. even our previous car tumutunog kasi on the minute you switch to drive gear takbo na agad yung gulong. Its mainly on friction kaya sya natunog. Not in manual trans dahan dahan mong pinapatakbo yung gulong pag bitaw mo ng break and still holding on the clutch. isa pa you can be sure that dumidikit yung breaks mo kapag naririnig mo yun :)

ReplyDeleteI definitely agree. Ertiga will not stand a chance against grand avanza now with an improved engine performance. Ertiga users are now experiencing aircon problem and engine performance similar to mr ulysses turbo lag. Will be waiting for an improved ertiga in terms of performance and price.
Deletethe new avanza is still sluggish to drive. nice FC though. but in the zigzags, you can feel the understeer. and when you are seated at the back, yo can feel the hardness of the suspension.
DeleteOn paper, the new grand avanza's engine doesn't score much against the likes of mobilio, spin and ertiga. It still uses the body on frame design, identical to its predecessor as well as its roots the daihatsu xenia.

My Ertiga GL is now 1-yr old. I have no issues so far even if it is a front wheel drive. Uphill drive with all 7 passengers on board is not problem at all. Just practice good driving techniques when overtaking and cornering. Drives like a sedan. My FC is 12.7km/l (ave.), at 13400km mileage. Never regreted my decision to choose the Ertiga instead of the Avanza.

Delete@lala: my Ertiga GL is a M/T. I reset my FC counter 2 weeks ago. We should do this on a regular basis to get a more accurate reading. The FC has improved a bit and climbed to 14.1 km/li. I hope the other Ertiga owners would also post their Ertiga observations here, for everybody's information. Happy motoring.

ReplyDeleteI got my ertiga GLX the other day, napansin ko 300 plus na ung milage so i asked the dealer then he said na maybe ni landtrip nila ung unit from davao kasi dun sila kumukuha ng stocks ng unit pag nauubusan sila.. is it normal? Pwede ba ako mg complain about jan? Pra kasing unfair sa akin na nagamit na nila ung unit beforehand. Pls pa advice po. Tnx.

DeleteMay i ask the owners of Ertiga: Can the Third Row seats be completely removed from the car? I ask because We are a family of four and the third row will never be used. But to just fold the third row inorder to get a bigger rear storage means the second row passengers will be cramped as the second row has to be moved forward before the 3rd row can be completely folded down. If the third row can be completely removed, so that the 2nd row does not need to move forward, then this is a car I will seriously look into to own.

ReplyDeleteHi. I haven't tried mine to baguio. But I tried loading it 500kg bananas. It can still run up to 120kph at slex. All seats except front seats were knocked down to accommodate all my load.

Had a little test drive , you may call it , at caliraya when suddenly we saw a sister ertiga dusky brown and the whole family kept on waving at us, smiling as tho we already know each other. OK po ba ang durability ng Suzuki? Maganda to at hindi pa mahal. May mga nagsasabi lang na hindi maganda ang Suzuki although I think those comments just come from people who havent actually owned a Suzuki. OK sana pang hatid sundo sa school, lalo na dahil matipid according to actual owners.

DeleteThat is really the big question as far as the Suzuki Ertiga GLX 2016 model is concerned, the availability of the parts. The above anonymous feedback said that "parts are cheap and almost the same as the Swift", however, the main issue is, is it readily available both in the Suzuki After Sales Service Centers or better yet, in the auto parts shops within the metro? The thing is, an associate who once visited a Suzuki Auto Dealer, which, at the same time, sells parts had a talk with one of its customers who was waiting for his Ertiga part(s) for a month already. The guy said that Suzuki is taking so much time in delivering for the part to arrive from abroad.
DeleteI believe it would really be difficult to be provided with an immediate feedback on this concern because frankly speaking, a brand new car would need car part(s) replacement usually after 5 years of running it. Unlike the spare/replacement parts of the more common brand such as Toyota Innova or Avanza, for that matter, whose parts are mostly in the shelves both in the Toyota Dealership Stores and in corner Auto Parts Supply Stores, as well.
That is why my predicament now is either get the Suzuki Ertiga GLX 2016 (Ertiga top of the line variant at 918K) which is a thousand bucks cheaper than the Toyota Innova J (which is, sad to say, only an entry variant under the Innova Model at 919K). The Ertiga GLX, which is, as I have said, top of the line but might have issues on spare parts later or the Toyota Innova J model, an entry variant but true, until now, to have an enormous after sales choice of parts readily available both in Toyota Dealerships as well as in most "over the corner" Auto Shops in Metro Manila and in nearby provinces.
That said, which should a rational and practical new car buyer should choose?

This might also be the reason why even the Author of this thread could not directly answer your concern over the spare parts availability of the Suzuki Ertiga. Sounds reasonable, indeed!
DeleteI, for one, cannot answer that question directly because it is only been a year and I haven't replaced a single part (except the oil filter of course). Most Ertigas on the road are probably still under warranty too, so you will just have to wait for a while in order to get answered for prices in Philippine Peso. Or, you can read Indian Posts and make exchange rate conversion.

ReplyDeleteKaramhihan cguro ng mga Ertiga owners ay gustong-gusto din malaman ang sagot sa tanong mo, mapa A/T or M/T man and transmission type. Ang akin ay GL M/T at umukyat ako sa Bagiuo last month. Lima lahat ang sakay at folded and 3rd row seat dahil marami kaming dalang mga gamit. Wala akong naging problema, kahit na sa mga tarik na makikipot na daan. Kayang-kaya ng Ertiga ang Bagiuo. Dapat lang, di matatakotin ang driver (at pasahero) sa mga matatarik na lusong at ahon o mga challenging na mga manuevers. Kilangan ang good driving techniques kung M/T. Mas madali cguro ang driving conditions kung sa Ertiga A/T. Hope that helps.

ReplyDeleteHelllo Andrew. What is your odometer reading? Your fc will stabilize at around 18000km. Follow the instructions in the manual for proper break-in procedure.

ReplyDeleteHi all. I bought my ertiga gl just last month and I'm monitoring my fuel consumption meter. Nag tataka lang po ako bat di ko naman nakukuha ung 16 kpl sa average ko. Pinaka mataas ko lang is 11.8 kpl. Totoo po bang matipid ang ertiga?

This is with the 4AT. Suzuki Philippines doesn't have a 5MT test drive unit as far as I know. Never experienced any problem shifting gears with the 4AT, only the response could be better.
As for fuel mileage? It's also indicated above. It's about the same as the Mobilio and Avanza in the city. The Mobilio will gain the advantage once you go highway.

ReplyDeleteUnder normal condition, the average distance a car travels in a year is 20,000 km. So check the acquisition date of the Ertiga. Also check the car's maintenance booklet to see if the owner religiously followed the maintenance schedule. Ask a mechanic friend who is knowledgeable in these things to come with you to inspect the car. You should, of course, take it for a spin to feel its power, get the status of the suspension, feel and test the air-conditioner, among others. I will advise you too to have the car lifted to examine the condition of the under chassis. Your mechanic should know how to check the engines's condition. Good luck.

June 14 ng SuZuki Ertiga GX A/T 2016 Model at panay check ko po sa Average consumption nya at always 5.8kl/l - 6.3kl/l lang ang aabotin nya sa City Driving. I tot kc na 10-12kl/L ang consumption na according sa mga feedbacks na nabasa n narinig ko sa Suzuki Dealer mismo.
ReplyDeleteKung bagong bago pa pala ang unit mo, natural lang talaga na medyo mataas pa ang fc nya. Di pa naman kasi fully honed ang mga rubbing surfaces. Kaya sabi sa manual na you should vary your speed while driving during the break-in period. Expect mo mag improve ang fc every change oil.

ReplyDeletegot into an accident on april 23..filed for insurance claim the following days..submitted it to my dealer and they submit it to my insurer..dealers will have to wait for the approval before ordering the parts..(fender and side mirror).i waited 2 mos for the parts..and it took 1 week for zuzuzki to install them..so i guess if its engine parts that youll be needing youll be in for a much longer wait..

A working mom with 2 kids here.. Just saw the Ertiga yesterday and i fell in love with it! modern and stylish na sya compared sa Avanza. Nice dashboard. spacious sa likod and mataas sya compared sa Mobilio. super sulit for a family car plus yung GL model is navi/gps ready na. my agent offered me pa a free back up camera on top of all the freebies. im planning to switch to this car though i was approved na sa honda city :)

Considering that it is only 4-month old, the paint job is still covered by warranty. Just bring it back to your dealer and file a warranty claim.

ReplyDeleteKagagaling lang namin sa Baguio on an October 2015 Dusky Brown Ertiga GLX (more than 20K na ang mileage). Loaded Petron Extra Advance Unleaded worth PHP 1.7 k with 1/4 tank remaining after a Taytay-Manila-Pangasinan-Baguio and vise vers trip. No repair issues noted. PMS to date is at Php 5K. Aircon is super ginaw even at level 1 fan level (even without using the dual aircon). We're very happy with the unit!
ReplyDeleteJust a tip to all Ertiga owners. If you observe that the engine is not reving smoothly or quietly as before, this can be caused by your fuel. Try shifting to Caltex Unleaded.
ReplyDeleteUpdate: I recently switched to Pergas Regular (unleaded) because it costs 6.00 less than those from the Big 3 pumps. Fortunately, it is owned by Caltex, but cheaper by the liter, and more importantly hiyang sa Ertiga.

ReplyDeleteRequested for the replacement drive shaft during my last PM because of the knocking sound in the underchassis at low speed. That was first week of March. The part is not available yet until now. Suzuki Main Office regukarly calls to inquire about the quality of service being done by their dealers. Hope this will help. FYI.
