BMW Motorrad Starts 2015 Strong
BMW continues to celebrate undisputed leadership in the Philippine luxury segment with the success of BMW Motorrad, the German brand’s motorcycle division. Also under the helm of Asian Carmakers Corporation (ACC), the official importer and distributor of BMW in the Philippines, BMW Motorrad began 2015 with a 15% growth in the first quarter of the year, versus the same period in 2014. This performance echoes the success of the brand in 2014, as it closed the year with a 71% increase in sales, the strongest in its local history.
Since its arrival in the country in 2003, BMW Motorrad has stayed true to its commitment to set the benchmark with a unique model range that represents sheer riding pleasure. The past quarter serves as a testament to the brand’s mission as it rolled out a slew of motorcycles and maxi scooters that garnered local success. Among the sales drivers for the brand in early 2015 were the all-new BMW R1200GS Adventure and BMW S1000RR.
“Filipinos often choose a motorcycle that does not compromise balance and comfort for power. In offering the Low Suspension variant of the BMW R1200 GS Adventure, we are able provide the remarkable handling and thrill that Filipinos actively look for,” says ACC President Maricar Parco.
Parco adds that customers are also becoming increasingly interested in the best of the superbike class, which led to the introduction of the BMW S1000 RR. The superbike embodies innovation in both power and design to deliver a racetrack experience that is faster and more agile than ever before.
BMW Motorrad is poised to further engage Filipino riders with an exciting line-up this year. The brand will launch new models to the local market within the year including the BMW R1200R, BMW R1200RS, and BMW S1000XR.
BMW Motorrad did not only post a strong record early this year, the brand also showcased its support for camaraderie within the local motorsports community with its participation in the first ever Cannonball 1000 and the 10th BOSS IronMan Challenge.
Held last January 10, the first ever Cannonball 1000 was organized by multiple endurance run champion Joey Almeda and sponsored by BMW Motorrad. The event saw a number of motorcycles and cars take off from Widus Hotel in Clark, Pampanga for a 24-hour challenge across North Luzon. Professional rider Max Kienle finished first in the Big Bike category on a BMW R1200GS Adventure while the BMW Motorrad supported Club PK led the Group of 10 category.
BMW Motorrad further engaged Filipino motorcycle and car enthusiasts in the annual BOSS IronMan Motorcycle Challenge, in partnership with the BMW Owners’ Society of Saferiders (BOSS). Now on its 10th year, the BOSS IronMan Motorcycle Challenge saw participants gather at Hotel Stotsenberg, Clark, Pampanga last January 24 to complete a 1,200km loop around Northern Luzon. During the event, BMW again showcased its riding prowess as various BMW riders accumulated a number of awards.
BMW Motorrad, in partnership with Tuason Racing School, also organized the recently concluded California Superbike School for the second year in a row. Held last February 6-8 at the Clark International Speedway, the event saw 12 instructors from the California Superbike School in Australia and the US conduct a 2-day rider training, using BMW S1000RR sport bikes. Through the California Superbike School, participants were able to gain first-hand experience of the sheer riding pleasure delivered by the BMW Motorrad line-up while learning about riding techniques and bike control in entry level and advanced classes.
