MIAS 2015: Ford Expands SUV Line-Up with All-new Expedition Platinum, Everest
Ford is expanding its Philippine SUV offering with the public debut of the much-awaited all-new Everest and the Expedition Platinum at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). It’s joined at the Ford stand by the EcoSport, Escape, and Explorer as well as the Fiesta, Focus, and Mustang.
Teased much, much earlier before the show itself, the all-new Everest has finally been given its availability window. Would-be buyers of the mid-sized 7-seater SUV must wait until the third quarter of this year to get their hands on it. But Ford is whetting appetites even more by revealing final specification and pricing details by next month (mark your calendars for May 7).
Launched at the Bangkok International Motor Show just a few weeks back, the all-new Everest represents a bold, new direction of one of the most popular nameplates in the country. While it retains it tough and go-anywhere capabilities, it’s poised to be the most technologically advanced in its segment. The show vehicle at MIAS, representing the top-of-the-line Titanium+ trim is seen wearing standard 20-inch alloy wheels. In addition, the front bumper has parking sensors to the side—a strong indicator of Active Park Assist as available equipment. Finally, the side mirrors also have the telltale markings for BLIS or Blind Spot Information System.
While the interior is locked up during the show, the all-new Everest carries the same two-tone black-and-beige color scheme in Bangkok. And according to the official press material released by Ford Philippines, it will have a panoramic sunroof, third-row power folding seats, and a power tailgate. The infotainment system is powered by the new SYNC 2 in-car connectivity solution.
The big surprise (literally), is the launch of the Expedition Platinum. Just launched in the North American market, the Expedition Platinum sits on top of Ford’s wide SUV model range. It features a revised face with a new grille and LED fog lamps. At the back, the hatch has been re-designed as well. 22-inch wheels and tires come standard as do chrome-tipped exhaust pipes.
Being the ‘Platinum’ trim, the 2015 Expedition has plush Brunello leather seating with accented French-seamed stitching. Beyond the cowhide, it has a new 8-inch touchscreen for its SYNC with MyFord Touch technology. Like before, it has a wealth of luxury features such as a power folding third row, power tailgate, and a moon roof. New features for this year include a 10-speaker, 700-watt Sony audio system, Intelligent Access with push-button start, and ambient LED lighting.
Underneath the hood, the Expedition Platinum goes decisively modern swapping out the old V8 for a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. Shared with the Explorer Sport, the EcoBoost V6 in the Expedition has 370 horsepower and 569 Nm of torque—figures which are significantly higher than the V8 that it replaces. In addition, it gives it much higher grunt at lower engine speeds. This is mated to a 6-speed automatic. And in order to maximize its fuel efficiency, the Expedition Platinum also has electric power-assisted steering system with adjustable drive modes.
The all-new Expedition Platinum will be available at all Ford dealerships starting July in three colors: White Platinum, Tuxedo Black, and Magnetic Metallic. The retail price is pegged at P 3,488,000.

"Teased much, much easier before the show itself"
ReplyDeleteDid you mean much, much earlier? :D
Yup. Typo. Thanks for that. Corrected :-)
DeleteHere's an official photo of the interior of a LHD Everest. Like the current Ranger, it was designed both as a RHD and LHD model.

How did the Eve looked? Was it a converted right-hand drive (i.e. check the wipers, or position of shift knob, controls etc)?
ReplyDeleteThat Exped could be the new norm for politicians/VIPs.....
Everest was LHD but the interior was closed even during the press day. Suffice to say, with a launch window in May...that's already the production version (or at least an early production version) that was displayed. We'll have more details then.

How about the release of the new Ford Focus with a 1.5 Turboengine?
ReplyDeleteAccording to Australian Media, the facelifted Thai-made Focus should be out 3rd Quarter. I guess production will begin mid-year.

Why is it that the new Mustang is not so talked about? How much will it be priced?
ReplyDeleteBecause it was already launched or at least previewed with the 50th Years Limited Edition model last year:

No hype because all 64 are sold. That said, wait until April. The full line-up of Mustang will be announced then.
Sir Uly, Tanong ko lang if may chance bang magkaroon ng manual tranny yung 4X4 ng Everest? Kasi dalawa na lang ung natitirang brand ng SUV na nag-o-offer ng manual tranny sa 4X4 nila. Their specs listed below:
ReplyDelete----------------------------------------------------------------------------
2014 Mitsubishi Montero Sport 2.5 GLS-V 4WD M/T
Price: P1,568,000.00
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
2015 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 3.0 4WD M/T Diesel
Price: P3,772,000.00 (White Pearl)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cody
TLDR
DeleteMahusay and Tatlo. Fortuner, Montero & Trailblazer
DeleteWould not be fun to use a Manual on an off road trip. This is coming from a hardcore off roader which is male.
