Subaru Impreza Gets Hybrid Model in Japan
Well, that took longer than expected. After touting its Subaru XV Hybrid way back in 2013, it would only be a matter of time before the Impreza Sport (hatchback) gets the same battery love. Well, that wait is over, at least for Japan where Subaru just took the wraps off the Impreza Sports Hybrid.
The second hybrid in Subaru’s line-up, the Impreza Sports Hybrid packs a boxer engine that’s mated with an electric motor. The 2.0-liter Boxer with an integrated 13.5-kilowatt motoring is shared with the Subaru XV Hybrid. However, the system in the Impreza Sports Hybrid has been re-engineered to regenerate energy at higher speeds thanks to a revamped control system. A specially-designed CVT that incorporates the hybrid motor features a reduced friction and modified torque converter giving the Impreza Sports Hybrid a fuel-efficiency rating of 20.4 km/L.
Other modifications done include slightly wider 215/50R17 tires for better grip and fuel economy, better noise insulation, an exclusive front-end design, side sill spoilers, and low-energy consumption LED tail lamps. Inside, it has blue accents exclusive to the hybrid and Ultrasuede seats with blue stitching.
Although the Philippines will most definitely not get this hybrid model, the US might see the introduction of the Impreza Sports Hybrid soon.
