Toyota Motor Philippines is finally laying down its cards on the table in the next-generation pickup truck wars as it unveiled the all-new, 8th generation Hilux. Aiming to raise the bar against its predecessors (and the competition), Toyota goes back to the very origin of the nameplate for inspiration. As a portmanteau of “High” and “Luxury”, Toyota believes the more daring, more powerful, and more competitive pickup has what it takes to once again regain the sales crown.
Taking a departure from its upright predecessor, the all-new Hilux evokes a new tough and emotional design, according to Toyota. The new thick bumper, contrasting with the thin grille and headlamps create a feeling of toughness and refinement. It’s a further evolution of the brand’s “under-priority and keen look” design that presents a more appealing shape. The wider and more stable stance pair with 17-inch alloy wheels at each corner (for the higher grade models) while a more harmonious integration of the cabin and bed exude an element of strength.
Inside, the all-new Hilux combines style and function with spacious seating for up to five adults. The front occupants will enjoy larger head- and shoulder room than before while those in the back have expanded knee room. A new rear center armrest as well as revised seating design enhances the comfort of the rear passengers. Furthermore, the top-of-the-line 4x4 G A/T variant carries a segment-first seven airbag system (other variants have between two or three airbags).
‘G’ models receive a new 6.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that allows MP3, USB, Bluetooth, and Navigation functions. Furthermore, the new LED backlit (optitron) instrument cluster with illuminated needles now integrates a 4.2-inch colored TFT display. A three-spoke steering wheel with audio and MID control switches is available for higher variants.
Asserting better driving performance, the all-new Hilux comes equipped with Toyota’s next-generation GD turbo diesel engines. Depending on the variant, it comes in either 2.8 or 2.4-liter flavors. Both engines come equipped with VNT or Variable Nozzle Turbocharger. The 2.8-liter 1GD serves solely the 4x4 variants while the 2.4-liter 2GD serves the 4x2 variants. Moreover, a new 6-speed automatic transmission or 6-speed manual transmission come mated to the engine. The manual transmission comes with iMT or Intelligent Manual Transmission (for 4x4 G M/T only) that automatically matches engine speed to transmission speed.
Keeping the Hilux planted on the road, it comes with anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution. The 4x4 G A/T ups this by having Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Active Traction Control (A-TRC) as standard equipment.
The 2015 Toyota Hilux comes in six shades of colors, the availability of which depends on the variant: Silver Metallic, Gray Metallic, Crimson Spark Red Metallic, and Orange Metallic. It comes in six variants: 2.4 J M/T (P 929,000), 2.4 E M/T (P 1,033,000), 2.4 G M/T (P 1,208,000), 2.4 G A/T (P 1,283,000). 2.8 G M/T (P 1,555,000), 2.8 G A/T (P 1,685,000).

ReplyDeleteSaw the 2.8 G 4x4 AT yesterday, it's really better than the outgoing model. I really liked the 7 airbags added. Quality is very good, no doubt about that.

DeleteYeah our local toyota models don't really catch up in terms of features. For example in thai market vios and yaris they have smart entry, push start and digital climate control. Lets just hope that the next fortuner for our philippine market have the same specs as the thai market fortuner.

The Fortuner, by most account, is gonna be expensive too.
Toyota still thinks the competition hasn't catch up with it in
terms of market acceptance, quality and design.
It feels no need to be competitive in prices.
That maybe true a few years back but not anymore.
This time their Hilux and Fortuner won't be that high in the
totem pole in market leadership. I'm willing to bet on that.
The Rangers, Navara, MuX, Monteros,Trailblazers and the
upcoming Nissan suv will make sure they won't be at the top.

DeleteActually, the Ford Ranger is the best selling pick-up in the Philippines today and it has been since last year. The problem with many of us alleged car nuts is that our perception of certain car brands date back to the 1970s. Sorry, but the competition has caught up and surpassed the Hilux.
DeleteThe biggest pickup market in the world outside of the US is Thailand. Ford Ranger sells only around 2,750 units per month while Hilux sells around 13,500 units and Dmax sells around 10,250 units. Now tell me if Filipinos are better against the Thai in knowing the best pickup!

ReplyDeleteWayback on 2008, I drove the other underrated Jap truck due to price difference of around 90K for the higher trim Hilux & proved me right. Got no problem so far racking-up more than 150K kms. on the clock.

I was so excited to make a deposit last month for the new 4x4 hilux, and was able to get inside the actual unit last week - VERY DISAPPOINTED! So expensive here in the province P1,725,000 with limited features... I got my deposit and went for the NAVARA. Hilux loyalist no more...

DeleteNavara is noisy compared to the Hilux. Hilux is so smooth and quiet. Test Drive both and feel the huge difference! Toyota PMS is around 20 to 30% cheaper than Nissan. Will you still buy the Navara?
DeleteConstantine dont know that Navara maintenance is far lower than Hilux. Toyota is every 5K but Navara is every 10K. Bakit maingay? May Navara ka ba? baka magsisi ka sa tagtag ng Hilux. Yung Navara naka-multi-link. plus it is 7 speed AT. Plus its just 2.5L pero more powerful than Hilux.

ReplyDeleteBrain washing. Just advertising loads of features but its actually way too expensive if you opted for more features, and Toyota is makes a benchmark for being an expensive pick up from its competitor. I rather chose to purchase a Strada than that.

I have no question about its reliabilty but for the price ng top of the line napapaisip ko ang 3.2 Wildtrack eh ang tisoy talaga...kaya lang pag sobrang stylish daw ng sasakyan mo for the time being malalaos at nakakaumay na din in the long run. Its opposite to the Hilux parang hindi masyadong showy ang design...please reply...our budget is 1.8M...

Now im considering on buying a hilux.. kahit konti features coz i know ilalabas din nila yon pag nag facelift ang hilux maybe 2-3 yrs from now.

ReplyDeleteplease research regarding hilux reviews around the world.its true its not the most powerful,most feature laden,and value for money or best suspension when new.but it is one of the most reliable and cheapest to maintain.although not flattering,it is the favorite pickup truck of rebels around the world because of durability,reliability and cheap parts.(pls Research).A video of top gear showed and old hilux being destroyed by numerous means and still functioning using common tools could be seen in youtube.Try selling all those pickups mentioned including the Hilux and lets see who has the most resale value.

ReplyDeleteVery interesting comments. Yes Im admittedly a Hilux lover, having 2 of those 3.0 4x4 a/t beasts (2006 and 2010 models). The older '06 had clocked 350k kms already and is still running strong. I changed the turbo at 200k kms though, and that's it. The '10 is still good as new.

If I buy a the new 2016 Hilux, seems like I'll still be driving the old one, except for the more powerful engine and infotainment system of course. Parang bitin.
I'd like to have thr Ranger's tech, but I'm afraid they won't last 10 years and then pag may nasira sa electronics, I can't sell the unit at an optimum resale price (which Ford does not have anyway).
So Nissan na lang ba? It's really.nice, but I like thr Ranger's size!
So what now? Hilux na lang ulit? Mura pa maintenance (ex brake pads P2300 for the hilux, P8k for other brands).
Help!
Seems like the NP300 Navarra, which is P150k cheaper than the Ranger or Hilux, is the more value for money choice. The strada though will come out with its new mivec 2.4 engine, so very interesting also!
