The next-generation PPV wars are heating up. After driving the all-new 2015-2016 Ford Everest and the global launch of the all-new 2016 Toyota Fortuner, now it’s Mitsubishi’s turn. Ladies and gentlemen, this is your all-new 2016 Montero Sport.
Known as the ‘Pajero Sport’, ‘Nativa’ and ‘Challenger’ elsewhere, this is the Montero Sport’s full re-design in seven years. Like before, it will be built at the Laem Chabang Plant in Thailand and will be sold in over 90 countries. Sales in Thailand commences in the third quarter of 2015 (autumn) with the rest of the world to follow soon thereafter.
Designed around “Stylish & Comfortable Off-road SUV” concept, the Montero Sport inherits the attributes of the luxurious Pajero nameplate. Upfront, it features Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield front face design. LED headlamps with daytime running lights also allow for a slim and memorable headlamp design. At the sides, the new high belt line design with the hard upper body crease, first seen in the Strada, continues over on the Montero Sport creating a robust and sturdy stance. Across the line, it sports 265/60R18 tires with the 4WD model gaining a two-tone design. The back is dominated by a controversial but unique tail light design that dips down the tailgate. It’s illuminated by LEDs to give it that unique glow at night.
Inside, it has a T-shaped high center console that’s more befitting a larger SUV. Filled with stylized silver finishes and black piano black inserts, it’s sporty and dynamic. It’s also quite luxurious with features such as dual-zone climate control, a touchscreen AV system with rear monitor (and wireless headphones), leather seats, and a tilt/telescopic multi-function steering wheel as available equipment. Unique to the Montero Sport is an electric parking brake (EPB) system that helps slim down the transmission tunnel giving it more knee room.
Improved top-to-bottom, the all-new Montero Sport features better stability, ride, and quietness through the optimization of the suspension system as well as improvements to the body mounts. Additional and revamped sound insulation also help in reducing interior noise.
Under the hood, the 2016 Montero Sport has a sole engine: the 2.4-liter MIVEC turbo diesel engine. It peaks out at 181 horsepower at 3,500 rpm and 430 Nm of torque at 2,500 rpm. The engine, called 4N15, features an all-aluminum design and is designated as a ‘clean diesel’ capable of at least Euro 4 emission levels. Paired with this engine is an all-new 8-speed automatic with a built-in sport mode, INC (Idle Neutral Control), and G-Sensor. All-in-all, Mitsubishi says the 2016 Montero Sport should achieve up to 17 percent better fuel efficiency over its predecessor. In terms of its four-wheel drive system, it comes with the Super-Select 4WD-II system now featuring a new off-road mode which gives better all-terrain performance and stability as the road surface requires. It also has hill descent control.
Mitsubishi is taking the pole position with the Montero Sport. Aside from the RISE or Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution body, it has a total of seven airbags for full occupant protection. In terms of active safety features, aside from the prerequisite ABS with EBD, the all-new Montero Sport features a lot of firsts for the Japanese brand including: Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM), Blind Spot Warning (BSW), and Ultrasonic misacceleration Mitigation System (UMS). And helping it slot into small parking spaces, it has a multi-around monitor that gives a 360-degree Bird’s Eye view around the car.
Mitsubishi hopes that its all-new 2016 Montero Sport will broaden its market base around the world, especially since the outgoing Montero Sport cumulative unit sales reached 400,000 at the end of June.

Meron ako prado but i dont like fortuner, the new monty looks decent but i would not buy a new one after selling my old monty for the current issues and traded it with ford explorer. From all the suv, ford got the best features in terms of quality and technology, if you dont believe me check it out for yourself. But this new monty looks decent sa wakas may aircon na sa middle seat before kasi wala at got more power than before. Good luck na lang sa mga potential buyers sana wala ng issues

Another this our outgoing HIGH END Montero in Philippines is 1,778,000pesos which definitely the 1,826,000pesos is higher which would be opposite from Mitsubishi Thailand Marketed.
DeleteUly, comparing the All New Everest (Thailand) priced 1,599,000 baht while the All New Everest (Philippines) priced 1,899,000 pesos. This price you posted is clearly conversion from Baht to Pesos. The price 1,826,000 pesos for High End Montero is way higher for 1,399,000 baht.

DeleteThe 2.5 is a typo. I was just copying the pricing from the Mitsubishi Thai website and clicked 'enter' without double checking. All Montero Sport use the same 2.4 engine.
DeleteAs for the pricing, it's a direct conversion of the Thai prices based on the latest forex according to Google.
It will likely be cheaper given the 2.4 engine is the maximum that qualifies for the lowest tax bracket for PPVs in Thailand. Now you know why everyone's moving in that direction ;-)
As for my own analysis priced Baht to Phil. Pesos multiplicative factor 1.19 priced will be:

with the top version of the current model selling at PHP 1,808,000 it's my believe that 1,660,000 is wishful thinking. Ford Fortuner top model is 2M and top model Toyota Fortuner >2M. I think this GT premium will sell between 1.8 and 1.9M

Donno..both the front fascia and the tail lights need some time to like, or dislike for that matter. It's edgy and stylish but I think Mitsu went overboard on this one.

ReplyDeleteWow, very creative. Headlight is a knockoff from the old honda city and the tail lights are a blatant copy of those from the honda jazz, except its turned upside down. Bravo mitsubishi, copying designs from honda subcompacts.

There's a video demonstrating these features, Montero Sport won't go forward even if you step on the gas if it senses an obstacle in front.

DeleteI don't like the external looks of this Pajakero. Front and rear look like bad ripoffs of previous Hondas. It's like the Jazz taillights melted under the hot sun and the plastic is now dripping down to the ground. The front can pass for the Honda corporate bungal/mouthguard smile. The side profile looks like a funeral hearse, like the kuba CR-V blended with the Isuzu Alterra profile.

DeleteI do hope they will bring in the 4N15 here. The new Strada would sell more if they already fitted it with this new engine. Seems to me though that MMPC is waiting for January of next year, when the government-mandated Euro 4 fuels-only regulation takes into full effect.

DeleteOne hopes that the spare tire has an alloy wheel to which it is attached. The unpainted ugly-looking steel spare tire wheel which came with the new 2015 Strada I bought four months ago was a big shock. In reply to my complaint, Mitsubishi offered to sell me an alloy wheel at 20% discount. I thought the decent thing to do was to replace the steel wheel with the alloy for a small token payment.What was I supposed to do with an unwanted steel wheel? I don't think I want to spend over four thousand pesos more for an alloy wheel that might not even be used at all, or at the most only sparingly.

ReplyDeleteIf all the variants will have that engine (4n15) this is a clever idea from Mitsubishi the tail light is no big deal beside I'm beginning to like it . It's visible at night and if some don't like it that will be added safety feature of the car cauze they will avoid to see it so less bump at rear LOL.

Montero Sport GTV 2015 Belch at 3000 rpm
ReplyDeleteJust got it nung June (Montero Sport GTV 2015) and I noticed na if I reach 3000 rpm I look at right side mirror and I see smoke coming out of the tailpipe :-\ Same story with my sister's car (Montero Sport GLS-V 2014). Her's is a bit older but whenever umaabot ng 3000 rpm pataas, umuusok ng sobra :(

Does it have something to do with the ECU?
Am I supposed to be using a certain brand of fuel?
Are all diesel vgts like this?

Sa nag reply sa post ko na subukan ko ang montero kuliglig at malaman ko bakit meron bumibili, eto sabihin ko sa iyo "social climber" i own hondas; kung ikaw man ung super mayabang sa sctex na dark blue montero na super yabang magpatakbo, ilan beses kitang pina una at ilang beses din kitang nilampasan sa kuliglig mo? Nabilang mo ba? Now alam mo na bakit kuliglig lang ang mitsubulok at ang honda ay suv. Brown 2015 sta fe region 1 plate, now alam mona din, hindi kalevel ng honda ang baklang honda or hyundai. Tingin mo kaya mo ang honda. Dream on. Alam ko nakikipag karera ka sa la union, but nakalimutan mo, malayo mas magagaling ang mga di kumikibo at contended sa bahay lang manood ng tv after work. Idont buy your idea santa fe can sprint 200kph. You might be referring to non crdi diesels.all new diesel engines now are using piezo injector whics more efficient than previous crdis.
DeleteIs there any truth to the alleged "SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION" plaguing the Montero Sport ? There were over 100 cases reported in the Philippines but none in other countries where the same model was introduced (ie Thailand, Indonesia, etc.).

ReplyDeleteBut the all-new 2016 Montero too expensive. Starts at PHP 1,550,000 for GLS 2WD 8 A/T to PHP 2,000,000 for GT 4WD 8 A/T.
FYI, the PHP 60,000 discount is not yet deducted from the above price.
I hope the all-new 2016 Fortuner will release their price for comparison.

ReplyDeleteAhaha anong kinabulok ng 2k15 model naging minivan ma nga itsura ng bagong monty hahah wala na pagkaclassy tignan mo everest fortu at mux pag tntgnan mo ang classy tignan eh un bagong monty ngayon dissapointment sa design pero upgrade sa features btw naka 2015/2016 montero GLS V SE 4x4 kami last nov.2015 lang namin nailabas masasabi ko mas gusto ko ung ngayon kesa sa dati ang hanap ko is 4x4 na M/T na wala sa bago ngayon also the design mas maangas ang dati kesa ngayon on my opinion

Had the chance to see the Montero Sport Premium in Mall of Asia. Was very disappointed because of all hard plastic and you can never seat 3 adults on the 2nd row... and forget to put an adult on the 3rd row (my knees were almost in my chest).

ReplyDeleteGuys, before buying expensive ordinary cars, check the engine model and the drive train if its the newest modelin the market. for CRV in Europe new engine available for dieselis iDTEC with 9-speed transmission.for montero from old engine 4d56 to 4n15 with 8- speeed. for fortuner new 2kd engine with 6-speed. by 2016 euro 4-6 will be implemented for climate change. please be the catalyst of change cause we breathe the same polluted air with our children and granchildren.
ReplyDeleteshet na montero yan. ang baba ng value sa market ngayon. Hindi nila ina-address ung mga issues, hindi pa nila pinoprotektahan or build up ung repotutation. Im trying to trade-in my monty 2011 GLS-V, the market value should be at least 900k, e ngayon swerte ka na maka 550k. Would not even recommend to friends and relatives ung new Monterosport models or any mitsubushi cars. Im very disappointed.

ReplyDeleteMitsubishi pang mayaman na walang taste. Dyologs at lassinggero at hindi marunong mag drive ng automatic. At hindi alam na talo pa ng Kia ang Mistsubishi in terms of quality. Stuck in the 1970s and mga tagahanga ng Mitsubishi.

ReplyDeleteAko 5'8" lang ang height sayad ang ulo ko sa ceiling ng 2016 Montero GT. Yung design ng upuan sabi maganda daw kasi parang nakayakap sa katawan mo pero feeling ko masikip or am just claustrophobic?
