Bentley Introduces Most Powerful SUV with Bentayga
Bentley finally took the wraps off its first foray into the ultra-luxury SUV genre with the Bentayga and right off the bat; it’s promising to be the world’s most powerful, most luxurious, and most exclusive SUV in the world. In true Bentley fashion, the Bentayga combines unparalleled luxury and effortless performance while still being true to being a bespoke vehicle designed, engineered, and built in Crewe, UK.
The Bentayga has a sole engine and that’s a 6.0-liter W12 engine with twin turbochargers. The mighty 12-cylinder unit generates 600 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque which are enough to rocket this SUV to 100 km/h from a standstill in just 4.1 seconds and to a top speed of 301 km/h. The engine, which also features direct injection, can actually shut down half of its engine to improve both fuel efficiency and emissions. The sole gearbox is an 8-speed automatic.
It offers the widest range of on- and off-road drive settings of any vehicle thanks to Bentley’s Drive Dynamics Mode and optional Responsive Off-Road Setting. Up to 8 modes are available, allowing drivers, to select the perfect set-up for any surface or road condition with just the turn of a knob. It also has Bentley Dynamic Ride (aka active roll control).
Driving the Bentayga is made easier with a full suite of technologies including Adaptive Cruise Control with a setting for stop and go traffic, Predictive ACC and Traffic Assist that enables the driver to set a predetermined distance to vehicle in front. Meanwhile, Predictive ACC uses navigation data, sensors, and cameras to predict upcoming corners, city boundaries, and speed limit changes. The Bentayga also has Traffic Sign Recognition, Rear Crossing Traffic Warning, and a Top View proximity camera. Slotting it in and out of a parking space is easy with Park Assist that lets it slip in and out of parking spaces with autonomous steering. It also has night vision and a heads-up display.
The Bentayga is styled to exude a balance between sportiness and presence. The Bentley power line and muscular rear haunch display a taut tension in side profile as part of the largest single-piece aluminum pressing in the automotive world. Upfront, the large matrix grille B-shaped wing vents, and four floating LED headlights create a distinctive and modern appearance. At the back, it has B-shaped illumination graphics in the tail lamp cluster. The Bentayga comes standard with a panoramic sunroof and the range of wheel sizes go from 20 to 22-inches.
Inside, it’s a world of bespoke luxury with handcrafted wood and leather throughout. Highly polished, handcrafted metal elements adorn the dashboard, center console, and doors. The drive mode selector, gear knob, bulls-eye vents and organ pulls, all add a dose of sophistication. The front seats offer 22 ways of adjustment that’s further enhanced by a six-program massage system with seat heating and ventilation. The Bentayga comes with a four-seat configuration which adds more luxury for the rear passengers. They are afforded with 18-way power adjustable seats.
Bentley also announced that the first customer of the all-new Bentayga is no less than the Queen of England herself, Queen Elizabeth II.
