Honda Blows the Lid Off All-New 10th Generation 2016 Civic

Honda has finally pulled the wraps off its much-awaited tenth-generation Civic which will go on sale in markets such as the US as early as the third quarter of this year. The 2016 Civic is an all-new design from the ground-up that aims to rectify the lackluster reception towards the current model. The all-new Civic also forms the basis of a family of models including the first-ever global Type-R model.

The all-new Civic features a more athletic stance that’s lower and wider than before. It features a long hood, sportier front overhang, and a fastback-style tail. The swept-back bodylines, bulging wheel arches, and aggressive face give it a much more premium feel that’s complimented by available all-LED headlights (or LED daytime running lights as standard) and C-shaped LED taillights.

Under the hood, the Civic (at least for the US market) comes with two engines. The first, is a 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC i-VTEC engine mated to either a 6-speed manual or CVT. For the first time though, it’s now available with a new 1.5-liter direct-injected turbocharged engine mated to a CVT.

Engineers have gone to great lengths to ensure a sportier driving feel for the all-new Civic. For instance, the hip point has been lowered by some 25.4 millimeters compared to the current car. This new packaging is possible thanks to new re-designed front strut suspension and new multi-link rear suspension mounted on an ultra-rigid subframe. In order to achieve good handling, it gets hydraulic compliance bushings—a technology reserved for higher-end cars as well as variable gear ratio steering, beefier front and rear stabilizer bars, and Agile Handling Assist—Honda’s brake-torque vectoring technology.

Despite the larger body size, the Civic is actually lighter (up to 30 kilograms) than the current model thanks to the use of ultra-high-strength steel. Rigidity is up 25 percent while aerodynamic efficiency is up 12 percent. It’s also quieter thanks to a flushed acoustic glass, triple-sealed doors, and a tightly sealed engine bay.

Inside, it has additional space for both front and rear occupants. In terms of luggage capacity, the Civic now comes with a 60/40 split-fold rear bench. Available features include a new full-color TFT multi-information display, LED shift indicator, and power adjustable seats. Front and center is a new 7-inch high-definition Display Audio touchscreen with integrated Apple CarPlay. It also supports Android Auto.

In terms of safety, it will be made available with Honda Sensing—a suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies that include Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Flow.

Honda will announce more details about the all-new 2016 Civic closer to its launch.

  1. The interior doesn't look cluttered compared to outgoing model which has so many buttons here in there. The front shares the same design language as most new Honda models released. This will surely play well in our market.

  2. I am more interested in how well that new 1.5L turbo engine will perform.

  7. I like the rabbit tooth grille, very elegant and sophisticated. Looks very much like they made a lot of investment in the development of the front end....... amazing!

    1. According to Honda, it will be available in a variety of body styles. A hatchback may be a part of this. However, they launched only the sedan first.

    2. Sir uly will this new honda civic that is released in the U.S. will be the same design/style for the PH market or asian civic?

    3. Usually honda releases the better looking civic outside america. American's tastes are bad which is why we get more aggressive looking civics. Thos muricans are very conservative.

    4. ^ You know what, napansin ko din yan. Better looking (or should I say, more to asian tastes?) Civics are released in Asia.

  10. bmw hood with a honda mid grille(weakest link) and a lambo huracan lower grille and a back that looks like a storm trooper's jet, design-wise nice, i think the 2.0 is the 1 to go for both for manual or cvt, 1.5 may sound enticing but turbo with cvt may not be the best combo. i wish honda has a better aircon

    1. Subaru is doing well with its 2.0L turbo with CVT on the Forester XT and WRX. Honda may have to adapt well the CVT tranny to the capabilities of its 1.5L turbo engine.

  11. Reminds me of the Accord. Come to think of it, it's becoming bigger and bigger with every generation, except the 9th. It's slowly becoming more like the Accord. Next thing you know the Civic becomes a midsize sedan.

This seems significantly better than those Korean crap.

    1. How would you know that focus is better? The civic's just been released. Unless you're a fucking time traveler, you cannot say which car is better. You haven't driven it yet. Only judge when you've fucking tried driving one.

    2. The Ford Focus RS is more than a match for the base Civic. The Ford Focus RS has a 2.3L turbo engine with AWD. The Focus RS is more comparable to the Subaru WRX STi.

The new Civic with its 1.5L turbo engine might be a good competition for the Focus 1.5L Ecoboost.

    3. Civic 1.5L Turbo vs Focus RS 2.3 Ecoboost? Bakit mo naman gagawin yun? Hindi matched. Labo ng logic mo parekoy!

Trivia: The Focus RS engine is the same one in a Mustang Ecoboost.

    1. I hate that piece of crap 90s civic. Only ricers love the so-called civic Ek, as they call it. That civic is the one to blame why many people hate Honda today. That shit stained the image of Honda forever.

      Delete
    2. Honda got the "skunk teen" image because of that ek.

    3. The 90's civics and the civic FD are fan favorites of ricer douchebags who think they're paul walker. The problem is not in those car themselves, rather it's those damn tasteless douchebags "modding" their civics. Would have been better if they left it in stock form.

    4. Those skunk teens have very bad tastes.
The problem up to now is some people still behave like skunk teens.

  15. OK, now everyone imagine how these new Civics will look after getting completely riced up (air dams, side skirts, 19-inch rims, lowered two inches, stickers of parts not even installed, and of course a spoiler ripped from jetliner) as many will inevitably be. XD

    3. My daily driver is a stock Civic FD.

However, I will admit that I wish Honda would offer the option for more powerful engines in their lower end vehicles, like Korean and American manufacturers do, even if it might be impractical.

    4. I dislike the ricer look but come on, for the past decade or so its the Ricer Civic drivers that are grown up drivers already(pamilyado na) and now the barumbado drivers are usually those who drive midsize SUvs like Fortuner Montero and Everest. DUnno why. Maybe the high driving position?

      Delete
    5. Probably because those douchebags who owned riced civics in the 90's as you said, have already grown up and are actually now the ones driving those abusive midsize SUVs. They already have their own family, but they have still retained their immature douchebag attitude. Just look at how many riced SUVs you'll see on the streets today. Sila pa din yung mga barumbado noong araw.

    6. Makes sense.

I see more riced-up Vios subcompacts than Honda Cities or Civics nowadays. They must be the next generation of ricers now that the last has moved on to SUVs.

  16. maybe it should have 2.0 liter turbo-charged engine for that kind of body.. a 1.5 liter turbo-charged is not enough, i think.. a waste of petrol..

    1. Unless you're looking for performance similar to the Subaru WRX or VW Golf GTi, 173HP is more than enough for the size of the Civic. The available low-end torque of newer small turbo engines will make it feel quicker than the current 2.0L NA compacts. Most current lower trim midsize cars (Accord, Camry, Sonata, Optima, Mazda6, etc) are powered with 2,4L-2.5L engines of the same output range (170-180hp). The smaller displacement will it make more fuel efficient compared to a 2.4L or 2.5L NA engine.

  20. smaller engine displacement means lower LTO registration after 3 year :) i just hope, this won't suffer from intake and exhaust clogging due to polluted air like those of Hyundai accent.
