Known for their stellar comfort, reliability, and durability, both the Isuzu D-Max and mu-X are adding a new adjective to their name: powerful. In response to public clamor for a bigger engine, Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) has finally introduced new variants of its well-received D-Max and mu-X fitted with a 3.0-liter VGS Turbo engine.
“While our current D-Max and mu-X line-up is very much appreciated by the market, there are those who wish to have more power. Thus, we are giving our customers the freedom to choose – between our current 2.5-liter engine and the new 3.0 VGS Turbo variant,” said IPC President Hajime Koso.
Equipped with a 4JJ1-TC (HI) 3.0-liter diesel engine featuring both Common Rail Direct Injection (CRDI) and a Variable Geometry System (VGS) turbocharger, this new power plant produces 163 horsepower at 3,200 rpm (up 16 percent) and 380 Nm of torque (up 15 percent) from 1,800 to 2,200 rpm. This ensures less gear changes, effortless hill climbing, and an easier drive both on- and off-road. These engines are mated to the smooth and well-geared 5-speed manual (D-Max) and automatic (mu-X and D-Max).
Coinciding with the arrival of this new engine, IPC has also added more premium features on both models to make them safer. On their best-selling mu-X, they’ve added new LED daytime running lights. Not only do they act as an accident avoidance safety feature, but it also manages to enhance the exterior of its mid-sized SUV. For the venerable D-Max, already recognized by the ASEAN NCAP as one of the safest pickups in the market, it gets a new tailgate-mounted reverse camera. Projected on the 7-inch touchscreen entertainment system, it helps assist drivers during tight parking maneuvers. Furthermore, the D-Max also gets a new chrome muffler cutter that goes along with the chrome finishes found on the front grille, door handle, and rear door garnish.
The Isuzu D-Max and mu-X equipped with the 3.0 VGS Turbo engine is now available at all Isuzu dealerships nationwide. Both models come with a wide array of colors to suit every individual taste.
The Isuzu mu-X is available in six shades: Splash White, Cosmic Black, Titanium Silver, Aqua Blue, Outback Brown, and Silky Pearl White. The prices are set at P 1,398,000 for the 4x2 LS-A A/T and P 1,708,000 for the 4x4 LS-A A/T. An additional P 10,000 is added for the Silky Pearl White color.
Meanwhile, the Isuzu D-Max comes in a new shade of Venetian Red along with four other colors: Cosmic Black, Garnet Red, Titanium Silver, and Splash White. The Isuzu D-Max 4x2 LS M/T is priced at P 1,090,000, D-Max 4x2 LS A/T at P 1,160,000, D-Max 4x4 LS M/T at P 1,360,000, and D-Max 4x4 LS A/T at 1,430,000.
If this pricing will not increase, I think the D-Max will regain its throne and the MU-X will be the new king of the segment even if the new Fortuner and Montero comes out.
ReplyDeleteI hope Isuzu will order enough stocks to fulfill new orders. Waiting for stocks to arrive is such a hassle. There have been several incidents of shifting to other Brands due to no stock or pissed off with the long waiting time.

Likely different tuning due to market. The 177 PS you stated is for the Thai market.
DeleteI would actually like to find out why the Thai version has different hp. Same engine, same road condition, they probably have better roads there, but same hot tropical climate. Perhaps, some of you can ask Isuzu the reason. It's not nitpicking, we're just intrigued.

DeleteFrankly, I'm surprise they brought the 3 here. I thought Isuzu look at this country as inhabited by ignorant buyers of cheap under-powered cars. What is more surprising is they didn't overprice, unlike the pathetic Crosswind, the Mu-X particularly the 4x2. They're probably serious in becoming the no.1 in SUV. With the 3 liter 4x2 automatic, I think they will.

DeleteI think their just planning to have the 2.5 engines in the LS-M and LS of the Mux. The high end LS-A variants will be having the 3.0 engine I think which will benefit the auto tranny of the 4x2 LS-A and the 4x4 system of the LS-A 4x4

DeleteSorry to tell you.. If you would do a research it's true. Ranger may have higher HP, but take note it's heavier. Colorado maybe similar but not as Aero Dynamic as the Body (Not the Chassis) of the D-Max or Mu-X. These Isuzu are built with "efficiency and durability" in mind before everything else.

ReplyDeleteI will go for the all new 3.0 dmax with vgs turbo. This will silence all isuzu haters..This is what you call the biggest bang for your buck with all the features at a reasonable price. Same value with the new triton strada. Checked the specs.and price. I am actually torn between buying the new triton strada and the new 3.0 dmax with vgs but I think I will settle for the dmax.. Kudos Isuzu for coming out with the 3.0 vgs.

I told them that I am cash buyer and request for a test drive and how long the the waiting time If I will be satsified after the test drive. The answer I got is the unit is ready except for colorpearl white
DeleteAny idea of what is the average fuel consumption of the new engine 4JJ1-TCX 3.0L displacement of mux or d-max? beacuase the ford all new everest 3.2L 4x4 AT combine cycle fuel consumption is 8.5L/100 km during there drive terrain test in the austrialia not so bad and also one thing more the all new fortuner 2.8L 4x4 AT fuel consumption is average 13L/100km in austrialia drive test.

ReplyDeletedo you even know what JPEPA stands for? since you want to be spoon-fed, it only applies to Japan made. Not Japan brands. So where is the MUX/DMAX made? Answer: Thailand. So to spoon-feed you some more, the 3.0 is not covered by JPEPA. More importantly, consumers should not lobby for a lower price on the basis of your imaginary JPEPA.

ReplyDeleteIt's Euro 2. However, don't be alarmed with the switch to Euro 4. First of all, you're free to use it even if it's not Euro 4 compliant.
DeleteFor car manufacturers, they have a window in which to phase out non-Euro 4 cars. If I'm not mistaken, they're given until 2017 to move all vehicles to Euro 4 compliance.

ReplyDeleteHi Guys. I've got my MUX 4x2 LS A AT last Dec 2015 and still under break-in period. The dealer advised me not to exceed 3,000rpm during break-in period. During highway driving, 1,800rpm has an speed of 100km/hr already. Highway driving consumption is 15km/l with an average speed of 100-120km/hr. City driving consumption is 13.2km/l. hope it helps those who wants to know the fuel consumption.

ReplyDeleteIt may seem that the 3.0 Mu-X is P200-300k cheaper than the TOTL variants of Toyota or Ford, but given the power (163 ps) and torque (380 Nm) it is only comparable to the Fortuner 2.4 G (P1.485M) and the Everest 2.2L Trend (P1.530M). The new Fort 2.4G, for example, has 150 ps and 400Nm.

ReplyDeleteEither you buy the Mux 4x2 3.0 or shell out another 100k and wait for the Fort cause in my opinion these 2 are the most reliable and durable of all the SUVs out there. I didn't like the everest cause its Ford and Ford hasn't really yet build up a reputation for durable and reliable cars. I like the new Montero, but the space is just not that good in my opinion. The the Trailblazer, well it got expensive a bit cause they put in the new 2.8 engine in the 4x2 and its not that loaded with features like backup camera ( which the 4x2 Mux has ). So either go with the 3.0 Mux or wait for the Fort

ReplyDeleteSafest pick-up? Any vehicle with just 2 airbags would fail the NCAP, IIHS or any crash test for that matter.
ReplyDeleteGreat SUV until you get into an accident. With just 2 airbags there is a chance you might bump your head to the glass, pillar or any hard object causing damage to your brain which could be fatal. Buy vehicles with at least 6 airbags, vehicle stability control and ABS.

We got our 3.0 lsa 4x2 a/t 2 weeks ago. We waited patiently for about a month and a half for the obsidian gray to be available. NO REGRETS! compared to my friend's 4x4 all new fort, the mu-x is roomier, has better HU and has reverse cam. The fort priced at 2m DOES NOT HAVE a reverse cam. Kating kati na akong mag long drive kaso wala pang OR/CR
