LA Auto Show: 2017 Ford Escape Packs New Engines, Tech
Ford is giving its compact crossover a substantial makeover for the 2017 model year, at least in North America. Launched at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the refreshed Escape packs two new EcoBoost engines as well as new connectivity and creature comfort features.
Sporting revised front and rear clips hints at the amount of changes done to the Escape. Chief among them is a selection of two new EcoBoost engines both of which pack a new auto start-stop function that would help the Escape achieve 4 to 6 percent better fuel economy when stuck in stop-and-go traffic. Replacing the 1.6-liter turbo is a new 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. First seen in the Focus, this version of the Escape packs 180 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. Sitting atop the Escape line-up is a new twin-scroll 2.0-liter EcoBoost with 245 horsepower and 373 Nm of torque. This particular engine features a newly designed integrated exhaust manifold and a higher compression ratio. The transmission remains a 6-speed automatic.
In terms of connectivity, Ford is moving up to SYNC 3 featuring faster performance, conversational voice recognition, intuitive smartphone-like touchscreen interface, and an easier-to-understand interface. On top of that, the Escape debuts SYNC Connect which allows Escape owners to remotely start their vehicle, schedule future starts, as well as remotely lock and unlock their car using a smartphone. This also helps provide vehicle location as well as information such as tire pressures, battery, and fuel levels all from the convenience of an app. Other features of the Escape include adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning, enhanced active park assist, lane-keeping assist, and driver alert system.
The 2017 Ford Escape will be sold in the United States by the spring of 2016. Expect a possible Philippine release date sometime 2017.
^A rebadged Tucson?
ReplyDeleteLooks like a Santa Fe to me...
ReplyDeleteThis time the front end look much better than the previous model... and considering this is a Ford, it should be much better than Hyundai.......... but maybe it is just wishful thinking
ReplyDeleteThe current and new model Escape, for me looks nice and specs are aligned with the models in it's class. Ford may consider reviewing the price of the Escape vis-a vis Tucson, Sportage, ASX, Rav 4 and Forester. it looks like pricing is the reason why we don't see new Escape in the road.
Delete^Customs duties and sales taxes inflate the vehicle prices in PH. The Escape is made in USA compared to competitors made in Asia...
