Mitsubishi Motors has promised an update for its surprisingly brisk-selling Mirage (at least for the North American market). Making its debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2017 Mirage takes on the Attrage / G4’s front face along with a menu of detail improvements.

Though the Thai version gets a large gapping mouth grille akin to the Lancer EX, the North American Mirage continues with the current theme but with a substantially re-done front end. Changes have been done to the hood, grille, bumpers, spoiler, and wheels all in the name to improve aerodynamics (co-efficient of drag at 0.27) and weight. The projector headlights also receive LED daytime running lights while at the back, the rear boasts of LED brake lamp elements.


Underneath it continues with the same 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine but with the output bumped up ever so slightly to 78 horsepower. This has been done through the addition of a roller-type camshaft. Other changes have also been made to improve the Mirage’s handling including optimized spring and damper rates and a stiffer front end. In addition, the brakes are slightly bigger, though it keeps the same vented disc/drum set-up as before.

Inside, the North American Mirage gets new seat fabrics, gauge cluster, steering wheel, and shifter panel. It also rocks an optional 300-watt Rockford-Fosgate audio system with EcoPunch as well as an audio system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto—making it the first Mitsubishi vehicle in the US to do so.



The North American market Mirage is also assembled at Mitsubishi’s Laem Chabang plant in Thailand. Now, whether or not the ASEAN version and consequently, the Philippine version, will receive the North American refresh remains to be seen. It reaches North American dealerships as early as Spring 2016 though.
