Already the country’s undisputed number one car maker for 2015, Toyota Motor Philippines is showing no signs of slowing down as it officially unveiled the upgraded 2016 RAV4 crossover during its annual Christmas party for the media.
Dubbed as the “new dimension of action”, the 2016 RAV4 adopts a sleeker and more dynamic exterior styling, refreshed interiors, and added creature comfort features.
In terms of design, the RAV4 now closely aligns itself with Toyota’s new design language with a new front fascia. It features a larger lower grille and slim projector headlights with available LED low/high beams and LED daytime running lights for the Premium model. Together with the reshaped rear end, the RAV4 is actually now slightly longer while new wheel arch moldings and rocker panels contribute to a more flowing profile. The LED treatment continues at the back for the brake lamps. At each corner, it features a new design to its 17-inch alloy wheels and is now fitted with low rolling resistance 225/65 R 17 tires.
Capping the exterior restyle is a wider range of color options which total eight: Blue Metallic, Orange Metallic, Dark Red Mica Metallic, Bronze Metallic, White Pearl Metallic, Silver Metallic, Gray Metallic, and Black Mica.
Occupants will enjoy much greater comfort thanks to improved and expanded sound insulation that reduces road, tire, and exhaust noise. This goes hand-in-hand with the revamped interior featuring new black trim with contrasting silver accents. For the driver, the 2016 RAV4 gets new back-lit gauges with a multi-function display nestled between the speedometer and tachometer. Furthermore, Premium models get the added convenience of a 6.5-inch touch screen audio-visual system with GPS navigation and six speakers.
Mechanically, all RAV4s are powered by the 2.5-liter 2AR-FE 4-cylinder engine. This Dual VVT-i engine outs 180 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 233 Nm of torque at 4,100 rpm. This is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with Super ECT and sequential shift technology.
Though it continues to ride on the same MacPherson Strut/Double Wishbone suspension set-up, the 2016 model gets better riding comfort thanks to reinforcements to the rear part improving driving stability and ride quality. In addition, the shock absorbers and coil springs have been revised to give a flatter ride and enhanced straight-line stability.
And in order to cater to the ever-changing needs and desires of RAV4 customers, Toyota has changed its model naming for this model exclusively. Gone is the single letter model designation and in its place comes the Active, Active+, and Premium models. All in all, there are four models available: 4x2 Active (P 1,263,000), 4x2 Active+ (P 1,441,000), 4x2 Premium (P 1,863,000), and 4x4 Premium (P 2,066,000). As always, the White Pearl Metallic color adds a P 15,000 premium.
The 2016 Toyota RAV4 is now available at all Toyota dealerships nationwide.

ReplyDeleteIs this for real? A 2.5L Toyota crossover for only P1.2 million? That's a steal in my honest opinion considering that Honda offers the HRV for almost the same price and that's a smaller vehicle with less power.
ReplyDeleteYou make a very valid point, but the entry level RAV4 is just too plain. Seems the Active+ makes the most sense or if you can spring the added cash, the 4x2 Premium.
DeleteYes, the Active+ also has good value. Frankly, those premium models are pushing it. At 1.8M, I'd rather get the turbo equipped Forester XT.

DeleteYeah for the premium models, the rav 4 is not worth the price but the base model seems like the best bang for the buck in the crossover segment because it has a 2.5L engine.

Delete1.8M+ and 2M+ for the Premium models? These are priced way higher than the more powerful CX-5 2.5L AWD and Ford Escapre 2.0L Ecoboost and Forester XT. With the Premium 4x4, the price is already near the price of the larger Mazda CX9, Ford Explorer 2.0L Ecoboost, and Subaru Outback.

ReplyDeleteThe base RAV4 if you need power for carrying passengers and luggage, and the HR-V if you want a car that's easier to park in the city. Personally I'd choose the base RAV4, its more versatile.

DeleteWell, there could be a variety of reasons why the base model is cheaper in 2016 than before. I don't work for Toyota, so I can't be sure, but it could be down to a simple case of bringing down margins to make sure they can become more competitive against the competition. Some times, they can be after corporate clients with a budget cap for company cars (normally around P 1.3-P 1.5M).

ReplyDeleteGuys, I checked out the active model yesterday and it looks very sulit. You get 180 horses, projector headlights, fog lamps, steering wheel controls, nice mags. The only things missing, which is fine with me are start/stop function, DRLs, touch screen head unit, optitron gauges, toneau cover... I think for the price of 1.263M, it is very worth it. You can always get after market head units, backup camera, etc.
