The country’s largest car company, Toyota Motor Philippines is firing the first salvo of 2016 by unveiling the all-new 2016 Fortuner. After being launched in markets such as Thailand and Australia and even having some dealers leak its pricing days before the launch, it’s officially here.
Since the first-generation model’s launch in 2005, it’s been a consistent strong seller for Toyota. It’s one of the country’s best-selling vehicles, known for its durability, reliability, and all-terrain capability. With a name taken from the word, “Fortunate”, the all-new model is designed around the premise that customers who’ll flock to the Fortuner will see it as a prestigious SUV to own.
The all-new 2016 model creates a more distinctive, sleek, and powerful design designed around the concept of style and confidence. It’s longer and wider than the previous generation with a larger front fascia for a stand-out quality in both urban and outdoor settings. The streamlined profile is both expressive and elegant and is shod with 17-inch alloy wheels for the G variants and 18-inch alloy wheels for the V variants.
Inside, it’s much more elegant with its hues of dark brown, black, and wood trim detailing for the V models and chamois black and dark wood trim for the G models. Also new for the 2016 Fortuner is a capacitive touchscreen audio system with navigation and a multi-information display across the line.
The second-generation Fortuner comes equipped with an entirely new set of engines. The sole gasoline is a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine; now featuring Dual VVT-i technology, the 2TR-FE engine maxes at 166 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 245 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Meanwhile, the base diesel engine is the 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV with 150 horsepower at 3,400 rpm and 400 Nm of torque from 1,600 to 2,000 rpm. Sitting atop the range is the 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV engine with 177 horsepower at 3,400 rpm and 450 Nm of torque from 1,600 to 2,400 rpm. Across the engine range, it’s mated to a 6-speed automatic (the 4x2 diesel is available with a 6-speed manual).
Adding more flexibility to its powertrain, the Fortuner also comes equipped with Drive Mode Select allowing it to either be more fuel efficient or powerful at just the push of a button.
For utmost safety, the Fortuner is made with a rigid body structure with dual SRS airbags and a driver’s knee airbag. The Fortuner 4x4 V gets the additional safety net of side and curtain airbags. A Smart Keyless Entry with push-button engine start/stop is also standard on all V models.
The all-new 2016 Toyota Fortuner comes in seven colors: Super White, Silver Metallic, Attitude Black Mica, Gray Metallic, White Pearl (additional P 15,000) and new colors Phantom Brown Metallic and Avant-Garde Bronze Metallic. Deliveries start in March, but this is the introductory pricing:

People sometimes choose a vehicle over the other due to brand preference, brand perception, cost, design and the ease of maintenance.

ReplyDeleteI have to agree this Fortuner is a "proper" SUV. Compared to the Montero it looks cleaner, more masculine and got that conventional but modern SUV look. Montero looks like it tried too hard to look futuristic but ended up looking like a transvestite with too much make up. The thick front chrome moustache, the bulbous cheeks. Mitsu calls the face it Dynamic Shield, just doesn't connect. It is just plainly ugly. And the back lights. Looks like it's dripping blood. Never mind the SUA, the looks is just killing it.

DeleteRear Drum brakes are good, they have greater stopping power as opposed to rear disc brakes in my experience. unless you tend to use the brakes frequently,ex. travelling from a high place like baguio then going down to whatever destination like manila, you will get brake fade if you will rely on using brakes only to slow down the vehicle (same applies to rear discs), but of course you have to use the engine brake to your advantage and not use the brake pedals all the time during down slope. ask yourself this, why do Heavy load cargo trucks employ drum brakes instead of disc brakes? for daily driving you wont get brake fade I assure you. so the rear drum brakes will work just fine for the fortuner

Drum brakes, Under high braking conditions, like descending a steep hill with a heavy load or repeated high-speed slow downs,DRUM brakes are usually lose its effective due to heat build up in the drums. Unlike the discs which are exposed to air and also ventilated which is more likely able to withstand extreme heat from braking.

Deletewrong. Actually yes true that both as same stopping power. But in terms of endurance the difference is big. When we brake majority of weight load is transferred in the front wheels. If drums used on front it will heat up very quickly then loses braking power in an instant due to enclosed housing and carrying all the load. But with disc, be no problem. That is why disc is always use in front. NO CAR TODAY USES DRUM BRAKE IN FRONT WHEEL! But as I said the main advantage of disc is during flood because it dries up quickly. You will always be a lot more safe with disc than drums brakes.

DeleteIts not the disc brake's fault that your captiva is crappy. Its because the captiva is heavy and using drum brakes for it will make it worse. Do you know how actually easy it is to find brake pads for disc brakes? They're not even expensive and they last for about 2 years. A pair of replacement pads would cost about 1.8k only. As for the disc itself, you only need to resurface them once in a while. The disc will probably never be replaced for the duration of your ownership. You have the nerve to say that I did not graduate from highschool? Look who's talking. You can't even construct sentences properly.

Drum brakes uses brake fluid in order to maintain its stop force with the brake shoes. Does it affect environment ? No, it is more isolated in the case of force stop when one or more vehicles suddenly stop in front , no noise, no contamination and no needed for replacement, it has a schedule of 2 year replacement, good for hauling heavy loads and family weight capacity carriage is affected by axles in rear. While disc brakes is effective to stops, but disaster in sudden stops or offroads. Most commonly disc brake can be rusted and expensive to charge off with high price, cause we've experienced that with my friend, before you call me a dumb person, try to speed up to 150 km of skyway if a car suddenly stops in front as you tailgate ,it will converge a noise and a burn to. A brake pads , try to drown the disc brake to the floods and sea, you'll be hectic for rust disc brake stranded , hard to move a rust disc , . Does it affect environment ? DeleteAt last we have the new Toyota Fortuner. It really takes a while before we get new cars or updates to the country. With differences in tariff structures, market size and production/assembly costs, it is difficult to compare prices across different country markets. With a small vehicle market, we don't have economies of scale that are achieved in Thailand (a regional hub for motor vehicle manufacturing)and Australia (high disposable income that enables car replacement every two to three years or less and a very developed second-hand market).

But the only thing I don't like of the design is the front grille of the car it looks bolder which makes it ugly to look... But it's okay, the engine power and engine torques were upgraded already much stronger and much faster than the previous... It has some features which improves fortuners performance... They putted Hill descent control but the hill start assist is not included... Anyway, high technology is not so important... The most important of all is the vehicle will last up for years... Unlike mitsus suv over high-tech kaya aron, mas magazine pa sa driver tatakbo ng Hindi inaapakan... Haha!!! Peace!✌✌✌

Comparing the three SUV (Monti, Fortuner, Everest) you can never go wrong with the Everest. Good Specs, Good Handling (now equipped with EPAS) and better price value. I think Ford has really risen for the challenge and now let the Slugfest Begins. This war between these 3 SUV Bruscos will be fun to watch (*grabs popcorn)

ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw the everest last 2015 MIAS i reserved for one...but I was curious back then about the upcoming montero and fortuner...luckily last october when I visited Bangkok I got to see both I liked the styling but when I saw the Fortuners specs such as engine, safety, gadgets, old school 4x4 btw they just made it knob type from a the previous stick) I was reallybdissapointed. When I walked in a misubishi dealership still in Bangkok, I saw the new montero, its good looking and has a semi good looking interior. Collison avoidance assist is offered too same asthe everest. Last december I had to make a choice. Well I got the 3.2 Everest Titatium Premium Edition. Jam packed with gadgets not found on the fortuner and montero such as All Disc Brakes, Pre-collision avoidance, Lane Departure Assist, Auto Parking Assist, Advance off road select, 20 inch wheels, panoramic roof, automatic rear door, touch button 3rd row folding seats, huge touch screen infotainment, blind spot detector, futuristic digita instrument panel, indoor mood lights, 220 V socket, Hill assist, auto leveling headlamps, 200 Hp engine, 800 mm wading depth, all around sensors, backing camera. A lot more. Beat that Toyota Fortuner!
