Porsche Philippines Unveils New 911 Carrera and Carrera S
Porsche Philippines unveiled the latest chapter in the 911 history: the new 991.2. Promising to combine performance and everyday usability to new heights, the new Carrera and Carrera S packs a turbocharged flat-6 reminiscent of the brand’s storied racing history making it the fastest 911 Carrera ever.
The completely new engine features twin-turbo technology that enhances the driving pleasure of the 911 Carrera. It provides a 20 horsepower increase compared to its normally aspirated (but larger displacement) counterpart. The 3.0-liter engine in the standard Carrera delivers 370 horsepower while the Carrera S does 420 horsepower from the same displacement. This is achieved through modified turbos, a model-specific exhaust system, and a unique engine management tune.
The story doesn’t just end with the added power. Like any other turbocharged engine, the new Carrera and Carrera S boasts of more torque from 450 Nm in the Carrera and 500 Nm in the Carrera S. What’s more, this peak figure starts from as little as 1,700 rpm and stays flat up to 5,000 rpm. In addition, this new engine keeps the relatively high engine speeds for a turbocharged powertrain—a redline of 7,500 rpm while keeping the familiar Porsche sound.
Equipped with the 7-speed dual clutch automatic PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) and Sports Chrono Package rockets the Carrera to 100 km/h in just 4 seconds—two tenths faster than its predecessor while the Carrera S with PDK and Sport Chrono does it in just 3.7 seconds. Both models achieve higher top speeds: 295 km/h for the Carrera and 308 km/h for the Carrera S.
When equipped with the Sport Chrono package, the 911 Carrera now comes with a mode switch on the steering wheel. Derived from the 918 Spyder, this system allows the driver to switch driving modes easily from Normal to Sport, Sport Plus, and Individual.
Models equipped with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) sees a reduced ride height by 10 millimeters improving driver control during fast cornering. New shock absorbers also enhance comfort thanks to an even more precise response and improved body control. Tire sizes have also grown with the Carrera S receiving 305-series at the back compared to the 295 in the previous model. Meanwhile, an electro-hydraulic system allows the front end to lift by 40 millimeters, perfect for clearing humps and steep driveways.
Opting for the Carrera S opens up the option of getting rear axle steering. Adopted from the 911 Turbo and GT3, this enhances the turn-in behavior and precision. It also reduces the turning radius as well.
The new 991.2 is recognizable from the new headlights with four-point DRLs, integrated door handle recesses, a re-designed deck lid with vertical louvers, and new rear lights. Inside, it gets a steering wheel derived from the 918 Spyder along with a new Porsche Communication Management system with multi-touch display and expanded range of functions including Apple CarPlay. The new 911 Carrera and Carrera S are also available with built-in GPS navigation as well.
