Meet the Monster Jam Manila Trucks for 2016
Monster Jam returns to Manila this June 18 to 19 to bring an even wilder show than last year. Eight Monster trucks are roaring and ready to to pulverize anything that’s on their path. As a teaser, here are the eight trucks coming to Manila this year.
Captain’s Curse
In 2007, a Monster Jam truck traveled across the seven seas, and docked in Las Vegas to make its debut at the Monster Jam World Finals. The lucky mate behind the wheel of Captain’s Curse was Alex Blackwell. Blackwell has always been involved in some aspect of motor sports. It wasn’t until 2005 that he actually started competing in Monster Jam. Then in 2007, when he took over driving privileges for Captain’s Curse, he made the Monster Jam truck a star. Not only was Captain’s Curse brand new at Monster Jam World Finals, but it also was crowned the 2007 Monster Jam World Finals Freestyle Champion – in its debut appearance!
Dragon
Clawing its way from the darkest ruins, from a time of myth and legend, a fearsome beast beckons forth and leaves scorched soil and embers in its wake. Its path is one of destruction, and those who see its scaly hide can stutter only one word in hushed gasps ― “Dragon!” With spikes jutting through its skin, long horns curling back atop its skull and angled fins slicing the air as it glides across quaking dirt, there’s no denying this mythic creature is here to coil around the ultimate Monster Jam victory. Dragon sports custom bolt-on pieces on a distinct green body. Though its logo is lettered in flames, one look will convey all the audience needs to know – Dragon.
Grave Digger
Dennis Anderson came up with the concept for Grave Digger back in 1981. Originally built out of an old 1957 Chevy Panel Wagon and parts that he scrounged from junkyards, Grave Digger as of today has grown by leaps and bounds. No longer do the trademark red headlights come off of old school buses, and the paint job has changed from a dull orange to the famous green and black flame motif we see today. Grave Digger is one of the most decorated Monster Jam trucks in the world and Anderson has won four Monster Jam World Finals championships, capturing the racing title in 2004 and 2006, and the freestyle title in 2010 and 2000. The Grave Digger team that competes at Monster Jam includes Adam Anderson, Carl Van Horn, Charlie Pauken, Jon Zimmer, Pablo Huffaker, Randy Brown, Morgan Kane and Cole Venard in addition to Anderson.
Max-D
Perhaps the most striking Monster Jam truck on the Monster Jam circuit, the body of Max-D is officially classified as a “futuristic SUV.” Featuring an orange and silver paint job coupled with a low-to-the-ground, aerodynamic body style, it’s well-known that Max-D is possibly the fastest machine in the sport. In fact, driver Tom Meents has been crowned Monster Jam World Racing Champion no less than six times, the most recent coming at the 2012 Monster Jam World Finals. But Meents isn’t just the master of speed; he’s quite the daredevil as well, claiming five Monster Jam World Freestyle Championships over his career. In fact, Tom is the only driver ever to win both titles in the same year, and he even managed to do that twice in a row! The Max-D fan base has grown so much in recent years that three Max-D Monster Jam trucks are now also touring. Max-D received a make-over for the 2013 season to help celebrate a decade of destruction and Meent’s 10 years with the sport with two all new designs.
Monster Mutt Dalmatian
Imagine if your family dog suddenly sprouted six foot tires instead of legs and grew to almost twelve feet tall; now you have a pretty good picture of Monster Mutt. There are actually four versions of the canine of carnage: the original brown Monster Mutt, Monster Mutt Dalmatian, Monster Mutt Rottweiler and Monster Mutt Junkyard Dog. All three Monster Jam trucks share similar body styles, and both have massive floppy ears, tongues, and even tails! Monster Mutt Dalmatian is driven by the beautiful Candice Jolly and Cynthia Gauthier, two of the outstanding female drivers competing in Monster Jam. Monster Mutt Dalmatian is a huge fan favorites and can be seen at Monster Jam World Finals!
Scooby-Doo
The newest Warner Bros. Monster Jam truck to compete in Monster Jam competition brings the world-famous mystery solving canine, Scooby-Doo into the sport, first debuing in 2013. Scooby-Doo which has been specially designed to resemble the beloved Great Dane, joined the Warner Bros. fan-favorite Monster Jam trucks Superman and Batman with the stated goal of “taking on the big dogs in the sport” and claiming the title of Top Dog! One of the fastest rising superstars Nicole Johnson, was tabbed as the first driver to get behind the wheel of Scooby-Doo in Monster Jam events. In 2016 there will be four Scooby-Doo Monster Jam trucks with Bailey Shea, Brianna Mahon and Linsey Read looking to keep up with the boys.
Team Hot Wheels Firestorm
The Hot Wheels name has a long history in Monster Jam through Mattel’s popular Hot Wheels Monster Jam die casts, game sets like the Triple Blast Arena and by having sponsored the Team Hot Wheels Firestorm Monster Jam truck in competition during the early 2000s. But in 2012, the Hot Wheels name returned to on-the-track competition in a big way! The Firestorm Monster Jam truck is the first of its kind, constructed with state-of-the-art laminate technology. Made of carbon fiber, Kevlar and E-glass (which is used to make some of the parts found on the International Space Station), the body weighs half that of a normal fiberglass body. This Monster Jam truck is 17 feet long and 11 feet high, weighs 10,000 lbs. and sports a 1,500 horsepower engine.
Alien Invasion
Here is the truck of the future. Clad in state-of-the-art lights and specs, this truck is bound to year 3000. The Alien Invasion is nothing like the crowd has seen before. Being a custom-made monster truck, it’s design is beyond this world. It is owned by FELD and driven by Chad Tingler.
Where did the idea of an alien Monster truck was developed? Debuting in Atlanta this year, the truck is made different from the older competitors. Its body was modified from Iron Man. It was driven by Steve Koehler in one occasion at Ford Field in Detroit. This truck is more than ready to show the whole world best.
These four-meter tall, five-ton beasts are tearing up the race track on June 18 to 19 at the SM MOA Arena. It’s going to be bigger and wilder than last year, so don’t miss out. Get your tickets at any SM Tickets outlet. You can also call SM Tickets +632-470-2222 or online.
