Mazda Philippines has confirmed that it will sell the CX-3 subcompact crossover for the Philippine market before the end of 2016. This is positive news for those in the market for a sporty subcompact crossover after Mazda Philippines initially said it would be difficult to get any allocation from Japan. Now, it says it has secured inventory, albeit severely limited.
“Production capacity remains constrained in Japan, and Mazda Philippines has previously informed that the CX-3 will not be available until next year [2017]. It now appears Japan recognized the need to keep the Mazda business momentum in the Philippines moving ahead, and had allocated some of its oversubscribed production of CX3 to the Philippines customers,” says Mr. Steven Tan, President of Berjaya Auto Philippines, the exclusive distributor of Mazda in the Philippines.
Mr. Tan refuses to give more details on the time table and ballpark pricing of the CX-3 for the Philippine market, saying they will be revealed in due time. However, it’s worth noting that if the CX-3 is positioned against the Subaru XV and Honda HR-V, then it will likely come with a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G gasoline engine mated to a 6-speed automatic in both front- and all wheel drive configurations. It will also come with the latest technologies including the Mazda Connect infotainment system.
Philippine market CX-3 units will be imported CBU from Japan. This is unlike in Thailand where it is locally assembled solely for the Thai market to avoid high import tariff. Mazda Philippines cannot source its CX-3 from Thailand because it does not meet the local content required to be included in the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement or AFTA. There are no plans to assemble the CX-3 in the Philippines.

ReplyDeleteI've been thinking. The only real advantage of Honda cars over Mazda cars is space if you disregard external factors such as resale value, parts availability, etc. What if Mazda would build its next generation of Skyactiv vehicles with interior space that could match or surpass Honda's?
ReplyDeleteAside from maximizing interior space, Hondas usually are more refined and has a better ride compared to mazda. The disadvantage is usually the more expensive price.
DeleteFor me, Mazda also has an advantage with the conventional automatic tranny. Honda's using CVT and even the most well maintained ones can get broken in time. Not sure how much it costs now but as reported in another forum, a Jazz CVT replacement costs 300k.

ReplyDeletethe problem with this corporate identity look thing with car manufactures is that every model and class looks the same up front. from mazda2,3 and 6 halos pareho ng itsura. same with the cx3, cx5, cx9.. pareho din tingnan. except for the size.. gone are the days na iba iba ang identity look ng bawat segment. not bad, not good either.

ReplyDeleteI attended one transport show in dubai and the mazda display area has all the models with the same soul red color and everyone of them cars looks the same. you cant tell one from the other. except for the miata. I wonder why car brands went to this route. from porsche to audi to ford to hyundai, etc...
ReplyDeleteI think car makers went this route to establish corporate identity. With other brands, they do look similar but you can easily tell them apart. However, Mazda took this to the extreme and its hard to tell the difference between the different models. Is it due to a limited design budget?

The Consumer Reports study you cite was a combination of factors, like road test while the JD Powers focuses on reliability alone. I've driven the CX5 myself and its great to drive, maybe the best among small SUVs but according to JD Powers, has problems with reliability. I tend to rely more on this rather than word of mouth and reputation.

3 - 4 years of comfort and fun sounds good to me unlike never experiencing it at all in a car. It's in the way you drive and takes care of the car din naman yan. 3 - 4 years lifespan estimate. I hope your not a world renown automotive engineer if that's the case. =P

All I'm saying it is reliable so far. I'll keep you posted when it suddenly broke down. I'm not a car salesman. Like I said my basis is through experience with the vehicle which is a Santa Fe only. I can't speak for other hyundai models cause i haven't own one. I actually have another car which is a toyota fortuner 2011 model that is, which is very reliable and durable. But it's not my everyday car anymore. I can say that because it is based on my experience too.

You can cherry-pick and point out a couple of Korean standouts that scored high-- but none of them were top scorers in *any* car segment. The Japanese brands' models got consistently high scores, with the exception of Nissan (which makes me doubt the future of Mitsubishi).
10 years ago i never thought much about korean electronics now they make kick ass products that dominate the industry and left jap rivals in the dust. 5 years ago i didnt think much about korean cars except they probably suck. Now they are growing by leaps and bounds in quality and design over rivals. I have been to korea and they're set to be richer than japan this year or next. Japan inc should watch out. More competition = better cars
