Everything You Need to Know About Caltex's Clean & Glide Technology

Caltex has reformulated its local gasoline fuel with the inclusion of a new Clean & Glide technology. The “five-star” fuel now features new active ingredients that are specifically designed to clean and protect metal surfaces within the engine. This helps reduce friction and thus wear and tear between key engine components.

The benefits of Caltex with Techron have long been known and making changes to a proven formula was not undertaken lightly. Chevron, which markets the Caltex brand, conducted stringent laboratory tests and accumulated up to 600,000-km of real world fleet tests to ensure the final formula provides optimum results for the everyday motorist.

The new and improved Techron with Clean & Glide Technology is now available across all gasoline grades at Caltex service stations nationwide. And to gain a cleaner and smoother running engine quicker, Caltex has also introduced Platinum with Techron which contains 50 percent more active ingredients of Clean & Glide technology. The 95-octane Caltex Platinum with Techron is set to replace the Gold variant.

The addition of Clean & Glide Technology is another relevant innovation from Caltex, joining the ranks of TechronD for diesel engines and Techron Concentrate Plus, a concentrated additive that provides a deep clean for gasoline vehicles in one tankful.

What is the new and improved Caltex with Techron?
It is Caltex’s best gasoline yet. Only Caltex contains Techron with new Clean & Glide technology, specially formulated to clean and protect your engine. The Clean & Glide technology gives the same proven cleaning performance that you’ve come to expect from Techron, but now with friction modifiers which are designed to protect metal components and improve efficiency by reducing friction. Continued use boosts the benefits of their 5-star fuel with enhanced engine protection, maximized power and improved fuel economy over time.  This technology is exclusive to Caltex fuels in Asia Pacific and South Africa.

How is the new and improved Caltex with Techron different from its previous formulation?
The new Clean & Glide technology is specially formulated to clean and protect your engine – giving the same proven cleaning performance that you’ve come to expect from Techron, but now with friction modifiers which are designed to protect metal components and improve efficiency by reducing friction. Continued use of Caltex with Techron also boosts the benefits of their 5-star fuel with maximized power and improved fuel economy over time.

The ability of new Techron with Clean & Glide technology to protect metal surfaces was proven in the High Frequency Reciprocating Rig (HFRR) lubricity test. The HFRR lubricity test is a standard test for diesel that is designed to determine the ability to protect metal parts in fuel pumps which rely on diesel as a lubricant. The HFRR lubricity test was modified to safely test the lubricating properties of gasoline. Results proved that their new 5-star fuel formulation was able to reduce friction and wear by an average of 41 percent 38 percent respectively compared to the previous formulation. The average results were derived using fuel samples gathered from around Asia Pacific and South Africa, and results vary by country.

Does this change your previously communicated 5-star fuel offering?
The new and improved Caltex with Techron offers motorists a 5-Star fuel with five enhanced benefits – improved fuel economy, maximized power, reliable performance, lower emissions and a smoother drive.

What occurs during a High Frequency Reciprocating Rig (HFRR) test?
The HFRR lubricity test is a standard test for diesel that is designed to determine the ability to protect metal parts in fuel pumps which rely on diesel as a lubricant. The HFRR lubricity test is modified to safely test the lubricating properties of gasoline.

During the test, an oscillating ball bearing on a plate is immersed in a given fuel sample. The friction caused by the ball rubbing against the plate creates “scratches” or wear scars. A comparison of the wear scar diameters help determine the effectiveness of the given fuel sample at protecting metal parts. The friction modification properties of the fuel is measured by the comparing the coefficient of friction, or “slippery-ness” between the metal parts.

The HFRR test results proved that the new Techron with Clean & Glide technology contained components that were able to coat and protect metal surfaces, reducing friction and wear by an average of 41 percent and 38 percent respectively compared to their previous formulation. The average results were derived using fuel samples gathered from around Asia Pacific and South Africa, and results vary by country.

How is the new and improved Caltex with Techron different from what is already available in the market?
Only Caltex contains Techron with new Clean & Glide technology is specially formulated to clean and protect your engine. Clean & Glide technology gives the same proven cleaning performance that you’ve come to expect from a Techron offering, but now with friction modifiers which are designed to protect metal components and improve efficiency by reducing friction. This translates to Caltex’s best 5-star gasoline yet.

I care for the environment. How can my choice of fuel make a difference to the quality of air we breathe?
Deposits on carburetors, fuel injectors and intake valves can cause your car to produce higher emissions, which contribute to air pollution. The new and improved Caltex with Techron is proven at cleaning up and preventing engine deposits, resulting in reduced emissions. And unlike the deposit control additives used by many oil companies, the Caltex gasoline range cleans up intake system deposits while minimizing the contribution to emission-causing combustion chamber deposits. That’s why the new and improved Caltex with Techron just makes better sense.

My car has been knocking and pinging. Will the new and improved Caltex with Techron help?
Knocking and pinging are generally caused by improper combustion in your engine. The use of higher octane fuel reduces this tendency. Deposits in the combustion chamber can increase you engine's appetite for octane by increasing the compression ratio. Fortunately, the all-new 5-star Caltex with Techron minimizes any contribution to potentially harmful combustion chamber deposits.
