Subaru Announces Recall for Defective Takata Airbags
The global recall on defective Takata airbag inflators is beginning to rear its ugly head even on Subaru units here in the Philippines. According to a list provided by Motor Image Pilipinas, several units of locally available 2007 WRX and WRX STI were installed with defective Takata airbag inflators.
Motor Image Pilipinas, the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles in the country, has tried reaching out to owners of the affected vehicles. They’ve tried contacting owners of the affected units, but given how some have already sold their vehicles to new owners, they started reaching out through other means including seeking the help of Subaru owners group, Subaru Society.
The largest automotive recall to date, defective Takata airbags can deploy explosively, potentially injuring or killing car occupants. It’s been found that in some cases, the inflators explode with such force that metal shards from the airbag can be sprayed throughout the passenger cabin. The Takata recall has affected makes and models from different brands and is not exclusive to Subaru.
A Motor Image Pilipinas representative says that this may just be the first wave of affected vehicles. Subaru Corporation (Japan) has already released another list of affected vehicles and the Motor Image Pilipinas after sales service team is already checking if any more of its vehicles are affected.
The affected units are listed below (we opted to remove the plate numbers for privacy). If your Subaru vehicle is affected, Motor Image Pilipinas says its best to contact its dealerships directly to facilitate the replacement of the defective airbag.
Subaru's does not appeal because of its very dull design. Its only selling point is its AWD drive train. This capability however is very insignificant, it only allows you to travel and bring you to your destination on a bright summer day. Going back home, when the clouds go dark heavy downpour follows with landlides on the roadsides, this vehicles will be buried along with its occupants in the mud !
ReplyDeleteYeah...the Forester is only for hot moms. For shopping, going to markets and condos.
DeleteAutoActiv can you prove to us what makes these vehicles get stuck in the mud. Don't even think of mentioning the Chevrolet Colorado.
DeleteHe can never not mention the colorado. That's against his nature. Lagi yan eh. Bibida niya na naman yang piece of crap chevy niya.
DeleteIt has very low ground clearance. I've seen a lot of Forester not able to pass kennon road with a few broken rocks and stone rolled down the mountain side !
ReplyDeleteForesters are more of a soft roader. But their AWD is one of the best in it's class. Subaru's are best in snow and rain and soft roading (just mud)

ReplyDeleteIts an expensive car but there's nothing special. The Innova 2.8 is even much better than the Forestry !
ReplyDeleteIt's more of a win/win competition. The Forester has AWD, so in case you get stuck in mud. It will most likely get out. The bad side is that the after sales suck. The good thing about the Innova is that dealer reputation is good and it's easy to find parts. The bad thing is that it's common. That's my opinion. P.S it's Forester and not Forestry
