This is the Country's Most Fuel Efficient Vehicle
The results are in, and the Isuzu D-Max has emerged as the most fuel-efficient vehicle that participated in the recently conducted Fuel Economy Run organized by the Department of Energy (DOE), held in cooperation with Petron Corporation.
Recording a fuel consumption rating of 38.46 kilometers per liter (km/L), the D-Max 3.0 LS 4x2 M/T topped by a considerable margin the 70 vehicle models entered into the DOE mileage testing by 21 automotive companies operating in the Philippines. Among diesel-powered vehicles of all types and sizes – hatchback, sedan, MPV, pickup and SUV, the second-best rating recorded was a 29.41 km/L, which was achieved by a subcompact sedan model.
“The rating achieved by the Isuzu D-Max in the 12th Department of Energy Fuel Economy Run, which is far better than the already impressive figures recorded by much smaller vehicles, confirms what we have been imparting to the market all along: Isuzu models, and the D-Max in particular, are some of the most reliable, durable and fuel-efficient vehicles available in the Philippines,” said Isuzu Philippines President Hajime Koso.
“The results of the government’s fuel economy testing provide incontrovertible proof of Isuzu’s expertise in diesel engine technology,” he added.
Along with the D-Max, two other Isuzu models were certified as having exceptional fuel mileage. The Isuzu Crosswind 2.5 XT M/T managed to record a 20.76 km/L rating while the Isuzu mu-X 3.0 LS-A 4x2 A/T logged the second-best result among diesel-powered SUVs with a consumption of 23.53 km/L.
The D-Max’s benchmark-setting fuel economy rating is a result not just of proper driving techniques but also of vehicle specifications. These start with the D-Max’s large-capacity 3.0-liter engine that was to proven to be under-stressed in highway driving conditions. The engine’s combination of an advanced cylinder head design featuring low-friction roller bearings, large front-mounted intercooler that minimized power-robbing heat, common rail direct injection that optimizes fuel use during combustion, and Variable Geometry System (VGS) turbocharger helped in keeping fuel consumption to a minimum. Enhancing the performance of the Isuzu 4JJ1-TC (Hi) 3.0-liter engine is a five-speed manual transmission. The D-MAX’s powerplant combination is identical to the mu-X.
Both the D-Max and mu-X also boast of aerodynamic body designs as the two models have benefited from extensive wind tunnel testing at the Japan Railway Technical Institute – the same facility where Japan’s bullet train was developed. The resulting low drag coefficients of both models contribute in cutting their fuel consumption.
This is the most efficient vehicle according to DOE but to many it has the weakest engine and sitting at Row 4 Section 4 in the class. You cannot even achieve a decent accelaration by pressing the gas pedal hard. In the end you burn more money for the fuel whilst being the most boring and last one to arrive at the destination !
ReplyDeleteWalang sinabi ang chevrolet mo sa Isuzu Crosswind!
DeleteFor heavens sake ! Its not all about the engine or acceleration! We dont care what you say! We dont care if the Chevrolet Colorado is the best ! People buy this car because they like it ! Have you even test drove ?!
DeleteHi AutoActiv. Go to YouTube and check out the comparo done by caradvice.au between the Holden Colorado 7 (Chevy Trailblazer) and the Isuzu MU-X. Both vehicles are quite good, but the Aussies chose the MU-X over the Colorado 7.
DeleteHahahaa!!! Any car can't beat the efficiency, speed and reliability of my Isuzu Highlander 1998 model!
DeleteBlack smoke from all Izusu vehicles is the incontrovertible proof that Izusu engines are the number one pollutants and violator of the Philippine Clean Air Act !!!
ReplyDeleteReal men are not afraid of black smoke! Bakla ka!
DeleteYeah so ! Real men aren't afraid. Learn how to spell, I mean look at the way you spelled Isuzu !
DeleteMan who are timid prefers frugality and cosmetic accessories. Those who lead prefers power and streght. CHEVY COLORADO is the way to go for only the brave and the adventurous. Into the harshest terrain and under most the hostile weather, trust only the rugged cross because "GM makes it DURAMAX" !!!.

DeleteBakit kayo nag aaway eh engr ng GM saka MUX the same from Australia.
DeleteThe figures from doe are even worst than any fabricated imagination.

ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to fuel efficient, reliable diesels, Isuzu seems to be at the top of their game. The problem is how they achieve fuel efficiency and reliability. It's common knowledge that more fuel is needed to produce more power and I think this is why Isuzu engines don't produce that much power. They sacrifice higher power for less fuel consumption.
ReplyDeleteAlso, to achieve higher power probably means that Isuzu has to produce more sophisticated engines that can handle higher turbo boost, more air volume, increased fuel pump pressure, higher injection pressure, and an increased compression ratio. The kind of engines that can no longer be serviced in remote areas by local mechanics. Consider too that multi-grade lubricants and clean diesels essential for more sophisticated engines may not be available in remote areas. When Isuzu says reliability, they mean that their engines can be serviced by almost any mechanic, can use single grade lubricant, and can run on diesel fuel stored in a rusty overhead drum.
I've got a 14 year old Isuzu crosswind xuv a/t with 260,000+ kms on the odometer. It's noisy, belches black soot when pushed hard, lacks power, and is slow. But, it doesn't consume a lot of diesel fuel and it is inexpensive to maintain. I give it an oil change (clean air filter, change the oil filter, etc.) once or twice a year when I feel that the engine shudders too much at idle. I've changed the a/t fluid twice. Changed the water pump once. Replaced the original aircon compressor last year when it finally gave up the ghost. Belts have been changed when they are almost worn, etc. I've basically neglected to give the engine regular maintenance, but it still lives!
All throughout the constant neglect the engine has never failed to start (literally at the first flick of the key it starts) even when the temperature fell to single digits on a trip to Baguio. It has enough power to keep a constant speed of 40kph going up the steepest sections of Kennon Road loaded with 7 people and enough luggage for a short holiday. It will consume just Php500 worth of diesel from Katipunan, QC to Anvaya Cove in Morong (via Subic) and back at a constant speed of 90kph on NLEX and SCTEX. And, it has never overheated even in gridlocked midday traffic on EDSA with the aircon on full blast.
If you want a powerful diesel engine, go for the 2.8 duramax in the chevy colorado/trailblazer or that 3.2 from ford. More refined diesels? Mitsubishi and Toyota would be your best bet. But for low cost of ownership, low fuel consumption, and sheer reliability go for an Isuzu.
Mitsubishi and Toyota are best bets for more refined diesels??? You dumb ass ! I live in the States and among the diesel pickup trucks locally sold in our beloved phils only the Colorado with Duramax engine is permitted to be sold here in the US. Not even fords 3.2 Ranger is able to pass the feds strict emission standards.
DeleteHi. Thanks for your reply. Considering that you live in the states, you may not know that the 2.8 duramax diesel in its stock from here in South East Asia will not pass the strict emissions standard of the U.S. The reason why it is now available in the U.S. is because GM fitted a urea tank and injector system in U.S. spec models that break down the nitrous oxide in the exhaust gasses. You'll see the filler cap for the urea tank beside the fuel filler cap. Same goes for all VW diesels and the new Cummins V8 diesel in the Nissan Titan. Also, the ford ranger in diesel trim will soon be available in the U.S. Thanks!
DeleteThe Ford Transit can be fitted with the 3.2-liter in the USA. Check it out at: http://www.ford.com/trucks/transitvanwagon/specifications/engine/
DeleteGood comment and info...
ReplyDeleteUgok ! Temperature has nothing to do when starting the engine. Its only the ignition switch, state of charge of the battery and the starter motor that is needed to crank and start the engine !

DeleteHi AutoActiv. Thank you for your reply. I've got a 2 year old Mitsubishi Montero Sport GLX. My crosswind starts quicker than my montero even when the montero was brand new.
DeleteBy the way, have you seen the comparo done by caradvice.au between the Holden Colorado 7 (Chevrolet Trailblazer) and the Isuzu MU-X where the Aussies chose the MU-X over the Colorado 7? It's very informative. Again, thanks for your reply.
Hahaha.
Eh magkaiba emission standards natin sa US. Kung magco-compare ka, tignan mo ibang bansa na EURO standard ang ginagamit ugok.
DeleteYou are right. Its only the Duramax Engine Colorado from among the trucks sold locally passed the Feds NVH and Emission standards.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's correct. The 2.8 duramax diesel in its stock form here in South East Asia will not pass the strict emissions standard of the U.S. ReplyDeletebuang man dagway ka
DeleteIsuzu has once again proven and offered the Filipino buyer of its unrivalled diesel expertise...Its passenger vehicles namely the MuX, the Dmax and the Crosswind are award winning masterpieces of Noise & Smoke Belching Technology !!!
DeleteOn safety, according to ASEAN NCAP all cars with no airbag are rated zero stars. The Adventure, Innova and Crosswind all belong to this group of "zero star in safety" as in itlog (o) talaga !
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteIgnorante ang mga pinoy diyan sa NCAP. Ang sa kanila basta umaandar at matipid tapos madaming pwede isakay, ok na. In short, mahilig talaga ang mga pinoy sa jeepney quality na mga sasakyan.
DeleteGM uses the same Duramax diesel engine that was jointly developed with Isuzu.
ReplyDeleteIf you're gonna have an internet argument, know your facts please retard. Top of the line Innova has 6 airbags.
ReplyDeleteI know Isuzu vehicles are really fuel efficient.... but, really, 38 km/l?
ReplyDeleteAccording to my personal judgement, here is the most efficient vehicle. And i hope anybody not mentally ill would agree.
ReplyDeleteLadies and gentlemen, the most efficient vehicle is a 2- Feetlinder "Pedicab-di padyak". No fuel needed, only used oil for rust prevention. Sa palagay ko, Win-win tayong lahat dito, walang maitim na usok sa ating mga ilong. Mabuhay tayong lahat ! Mabuhay ang Pilipino !
sure. sure.
DeleteThe best that i could get from my dmax is 23km/l and that is without passenger cruising at 70-90kph sa SCTEX. And that figure goes down a lot at the slightest sign of traffic. BS.
ReplyDeleteEven 23km/l is hard to believe. Based on experience the Ford Expedition FC is averaging 5km/l. As a rule of thumb, smaller Suv is 3x more econmical than that of a large Suv which amounts to 15km/l average fuel consumption at most..
ReplyDeleteA 3.0 liter engine that produces 38 kms./liter is completely fabricated! Specially when a government agency like the DOE conducting it. Among pick-ups that are being sold here this brand lags behind. There must be some mistake with the results or some hocus-pocus.
ReplyDeleteCorrection... Mu-X 1.9L RZ4E Engine is the Subject not 3.0L..
DeleteIs that includes also the isuzu dmax LS boondock 4x4?
ReplyDeleteEach brands of vehicle has their own good features, advantages and disadvantages. But at the end of the day, it all boils down to personal preference. Nice argument though, and thankfully we reader's can learn from both your personal experiences and opinions. But please, stop bickering. Peace to everyone! :)
ReplyDeleteItong AutoActiv ay taran ga pu bul!! nonsense...
ReplyDelete@AutoActiv your mouth belches more black smoke than any isuzu vehicles.
ReplyDeleteNone of what you said are true about isuzu. They are fuel efficient, reliable, low maintenance and have decent power. But if youre really crying out about power and acceleration get a sportscar. We dont really give a fck about your BIASES.
Isuzu is the King of Fuel economy and reliability. Period.
Let's accept the fact that we don't buy cars just by their fuel economy alone, there are other aspects to consider. Even if a particular brand/model is fuel efficient if the looks is a bitter pill to swallow, one simply ignore that quality in that model. It all boils down to the totality of the unit. Peace
ReplyDeleteI'm currently torn between the Mitsu Montero, Ford Everest, Chevy Trailblazer, and MU-X, I'll be buying this coming December 2017. May I have the pros and cons aside from the things I read in the internet, I would hope that it would be solely based on experience, but opinions can also help me decide. I'm looking for low maintenance in a vehicle, but with reliable after sales, and not the least a good powerplant.
ReplyDeleteJedi, in fairness all of those you mention are good but just to be sure, you have to choose japanese cars. they are built to last. From engine, frame, electronics, design and material quality, they are all tested. And most of all, the after sales service, the parts availability which you have to consider. Go for the montero or mu-x and you have no regrets. . . thank you
