Okay, so here’s another case of a great car managing to miss the limelight at the Philippine International Motor Show. At the Mazda pavilion, all eyes are focused solely on the all-new CX-3; and rightfully so, it’s stylish, it’s got all-wheel drive, and it’s a crossover—a hot segment in the market today. But just behind the CX-3 is the 2017 Mazda3.
We’ve extensively covered the 2017 Mazda3 before as well as its key feature, the G-Vectoring Control system. But now, we have specs, variants, and pricing of Mazda’s award-winning compact sedan.
If you don’t have the time to go through the specs below (shame on you), in gist, the Mazda3 gets G-Vectoring Control across the line-up. It keeps the same number of variants: 2 sedans and 3 hatchbacks. The same two engines are available: the 1.5-liter Skyactiv with 112 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque and the 2.0-liter Skyactiv with 155 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The sole transmission on all models is a 6-speed automatic, but now with paddle shifters. All come with a Sport mode while the 2.0-liters come with cruise control.
Outside, all models benefit from LED front fog lamps, but only the 2.0-liter models get the new adaptive LED headlights with daytime running lights. The 1.5s continue to roll on 16-inch tires, while the 2.0s run on 18-inchers. The 2.0-liter model also gets racy red brake calipers. Finally, the Speed version is the only one to get the standard body kit that comprised of a front, side, and rear body skirts. Soul Red is an optional color on all, but the base 1.5 V 4DR. And no, Machine Gray Metallic is not an available color.
Inside, all variants continue to use the Mazda Connect infotainment system with the 7-inch TFT display and commander control rotary dial, but have been upgraded to include a rear parking camera. The 2.0-liter then ups the luxury with leather seats, heads-up display, a sunroof, and an electric parking brake. The Speed builds up on that with the 9-speaker Bose sound system and a powered driver seat.
Apart from G-Vectoring Control, all Mazda3 get dual SRS airbags, anti-lock brakes, and dynamic stability control. The Speed is the only model to get an additional 4 airbags (total 6), front clearance sensors, and blind spot detection.
The most awaited bit, the pricing:
- 2017 Mazda3 1.5 V 4DR – P 998,000
- 2017 Mazda3 1.5 V 5DR – P 1,018,000
- 2017 Mazda3 2.0 R 4DR – P 1,248,000
- 2017 Mazda3 2.0 R 5DR – P 1,268,000
- 2017 Mazda3 2.0 Speed 5DR – P 1,398,000
No variant with GPS included?
ReplyDeleteAccording to the price list, navigation is standard on the 2017 Mazda3.
DeleteIt beats the civic in terms of pricing
ReplyDeleteNot just in pricing, think again. The Civic's advantage is the turbo, space, NVH, and maybe comfort? But the Mazda 3 triumphs in price, quality, ease of maintenance(no turbo and Yojin 3), interior design, driving dynamics. Exterior design is subjective given the Civic's stunning rear design, while the Mazda's exterior looks gorgeous in every angle, but the Civic's ass is a stunner. Choose wisely. Personally, I would pick the Mazda 3 due to my limited garage dimensions and tight parking slots in Makati, I also love to drive. I would pick the Civic if I have a bigger garage, a family and do not live in the crowded city.
DeleteCivic and Mazda3 are just the same. Econo-Japanese car.
DeleteWake up.
They do not feel econo car anymore, mind you. The Mazda TOTL even has more equipment than an Audi A3
Delete"they don't feel".. that is denial. They are still Japanese econo cars.
DeleteI sat in a Mazda 3 speed in the PIMS and the quality is superb, it does not feel econo anymore. The Civic feels neutral, the materials used inside are not as good as in the Mazda 3. You're just blinded by the prestige of luxury cars, if you look past the badge, they still feel luxurious , but if you compare the prices, equipment and quality of a Mazda 3 speed and an Audi A3 or a Mercedes C class, you'll regard the German marques as overpriced and they are unreliable as well.
DeleteYeah baby yeah.
ReplyDeleteMahal naman nitong mazda3 1m+ ang 1.5l. Mas malakas pa yung engine ng city nito. Paano ka maka enjoy mag drive nito na jeepney lang ata ang pwede ma overtake
ReplyDeleteYeah if you buy the 2l version where you can enjoy some driving it costs nearly the more versatile compact suv like crv tucson escape etc
DeleteThe 1.5L might not be fast, but that's the best part. You can go full throttle + sport mode which will give you a throaty engine sound that will make you smile everytime. See how most automotive journalists have more fun in the 160hp mazda mx-5 than in a 200hp toyota 86. It's not the speed, its the driving experience. But the Mazda Mx-5 is no slouch either. Personally, its worth it to spend an additional 200k for the Mazda 3 R variant. For 200k, you get a lot more.
DeleteMas Maganda 86
DeleteRather than getting the 1.5L mazda3, get the 1.8L civic instead.
DeleteI beg to differ that the 86 is better than the MX-5, however I agree that the 1.8L Civic is a better buy than the Mazda 3 1.5L. The 86 has more power but is significantly heavier than the MX-5 and the MX-5 has better handling and more fun to drive.
DeleteI think the mx 5 feels more like a go-kart.
Delete86 is better. I'm bias cause i love my 86 and happy driving it.
DeleteMX5 is good but it is much smaller so you have to sacrifice comfort while the 86 is a cruiser more comfortable while giving little in performance to the MX5. Personally, I would choose the 86. Going back to the main topic, the P1M Mazda3 is just for porma with little performance while the 1.25-1.4M 2.0L is overpriced.
DeleteYou'll feel more awesome in a roadster(Mazda MX-5) than a 86 while cruising in the highway, especially with the roof down. The MX-5 is really not comfortable for people near and over 6ft, but it is really fun. But if I will invite friends on a roadtrip, I would bring a compact sedan or an SUV for that matter. Yeah, the Mazda 3 V's main selling point is looks and fuel efficiency. The 2.0L is not overpriced if you look at the equipment and quality. Compared to a 2.0L Corolla, Elantra, Forte, the Mazda 3 2.0L is a great buy. I excluded the Civic and Focus because they are great choices as well as the Mazda 3.
DeleteYou can't go wrong if you pick either mazda3 or civic. It all depends on the budget. If you're budget is around 1M, get the base civic. If your budget is around 1.2M, get the 2.0L mazda3, but if your budget is 1.4M, get the civic. You'll still enjoy either cars, sa budget lang mag dedepende.
DeleteI own 2016 1.5v and I'm actually surprised na it can run 180kph at 4.5k-6k rpm - no matter how pressed it wont go up further (7-8k redline). I don't think it's comparable though with 1.8 base civic which is priced at 1.1m? I run twisty baguio at 60-80kph without tire screech and body roll - don't do this if you're not confident with your skills and car) and efficiency of 6-7l/100km to baguio from cavite and back. Daily driven makati-cavite at rush hour and still do 10-11l/100km average for a week and it's a sprited drive on high-way running 120-160kph at coastal.
DeleteIt's subjected to how you drive but I recommend to test drive both. My friend owns 1.8 honda and performs the same as mazda 3 (during our trip to la union). Anyway, you have very limitted road to use more than 100kph so you should stick with the budget. I definitely know that it can take more than jeeps/tricycle.
Driving at that high rpm would prematurely break that engine. Even a crosswind can reach that speed the problem is tha acceleration and the 1.5l can only give you little of it. You will need a hell lot of patience with that car.
DeleteI also own 1.5l mazda. I recommend to test drive both but I really love the new civic but you can get a lot from that price difference. I love it's transmission that I cant put into words so it's a must try.
Delete100kph is around 1.5-2.5k rpm at 6.6l/100km (based on the display when traversing sctex/tplex).
Acceleration can do 100kph in 11-15 secs without spending too much gas (normal/half-way pedal step).
If you're leaning towards a feminine thing..yeah Miata is for you.
DeleteI have been waiting for the mazda 3 speed with black leather. Got two kids and you dont want that cream leather messed up.
ReplyDeletePut them in the trunk. After all, you care about your car seats.
Deletedoes any of the variants comes with cruise control?
ReplyDeleteAll variants have cruise control. Read the brochure in their website
DeleteApparently, no. Only 2.0 has cruise control.
DeleteIs it available now?
ReplyDeleteDid you not see it typed 2017? Or are you stupid?
DeleteFirst batch will be at dealerships beginning October.
DeleteSi anonymous 1029 pala ang stupid
DeleteThanks Uly. Good to hear it will be available in a month.
DeleteNo engine start /stop for 1.5v mazda3
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with the key?
Deleteafter 2 or 3 refreshed model, This car still looks the same as the time it was first released in 2014. it starts to look old and boring already. Heck, all mazdas look the same, save for the miata. The driving dynamics and all are great - but the looks.. its.. its not so thrilling no more.
ReplyDeleteIt looks bland nowadays - because everyone has it. Like the Vios.
DeleteI bought the Mazda 3 for my wife a few years ago mainly because of its looks. Its got great interior and a comfortable ride. What I don't like about it is sluggish acceleration (needs 2.0L for its weight), lack of storage space, poor insulation resulting to a lot of noise and tight uncomfortable backseat space. Yes, Mazda has abused the design too much as all cars look the same and have to look at the boot to differentiate.
ReplyDeleteHell I still have a hard time differentiating a mazda 2 sedan from a mazda 3 sedan when looking at the rear.
DeleteBase on the cons you stated obviously it's not for the wife.
DeleteSome women drive reckless and faster than men. Storage space is needed to haul stuff and sometimes our kids stroller bsby seat grocery etc stuff you need in real life. Sometimes husband and wife also swap cars once in a while uknow
DeleteThe funny thing about wpmen drivers is that they are on the extremes. On one end, there is that reckless woman who thinks she's in an F1 racing. On the opposite end there is that annoying woman who's super slow and tries to be so careful that she ends up being a road hazard!
DeleteIn the compact segment, the civic and the mazda3 are the choices if you want to get laid. Forget the rest.
ReplyDelete^Best advise. Specially on a third-world country.
DeletePathetic needs a car to get laid
DeleteDon't need a car to get laid but it helps. There's like a quadruple chance of getting laid than not having a car.
DeleteThat's what poor thinking does to you.
DeleteYou must be really ugly to need a car to get laid
DeleteHaving a car really helps a lot in getting laid. A car would compensate for the lack of diskarte, as opposed to the men who are smooth talkers.
DeleteIf you wanna get laid and you don't have the looks or the tongue get a European luxury car like the Merc BMW or Audi not some Jap econobox that parents use to pick up kids and haul groceries
Delete^
DeleteThat only applies in developed countries.
In the Philippine setting, a good looking car is enough to get you laid. Believe me.
Maybe hookers with something extra to give you
DeleteYou do know that there are a lot of BMWs (Babaeng Mahilig sa Wheels) right?
DeleteFunny yiu claim that yiu will get laid in a mazda since its mx5 considered a gay car in the us. Maybe thats whybsales never took off for the brand
DeleteLol marami talagang bakla drive mazda baka totoong mas madali mag pick up ng boys nila
DeleteThe Mazda mx-5 is the best selling roadster in the world, mind you.
DeleteWhat are you? 12? Gay jokes are not funny. Seriously, cars WILL get you laid. It is a tool to get laid. Pwede mo pang hatid-sundot... Este sundo.
DeleteI agree. Having a car is having a competitive advantage over most dudes out there. I don't blame women though, they are attracted to wealth whereas we men are attracted to beauty. A car also makes it easier to pick her up and go somewhere, hassle free.
DeleteIt says in the specsheet that only the Speed version gets the red brake calipers. :)
ReplyDeleteDamn! So much power on that colored calipers! Tsk..
DeleteIf I got it, I'd spray-paint "Brembo" on it.
hi. I would just like to ask: if budget is a bit of an issue (but workable), which is the better buy between the old variant 2.0L vs the new variant 1.5L if say, the difference between them is 70,000. thank you.
ReplyDeleteI would pick the 2.0L anyday. More powerful engine, leather seats, etc.
DeleteDamn, I really like this but my next buy will be something with a higher ground clearance. (But sometimes heart beats mind. lol)
ReplyDeleteI would really pick the Mazda 3 but my mom wants the CX-3.
DeleteGo tell your mother that both have the same ground clearance: 155mm.
DeleteMay option ba sila ng black leather seats for Mazda 3 Speed? or fix na sya sa white? Sana meron silang choices either black or white seats
ReplyDeleteThe Mazda 3 speed in soul red that I sat in the PIMS has black leather seats. Still choosing between the Mazda 3 speed and the Mazda CX-3 AWD
DeleteI think sa PIMS lang may black leather for testers? Kasi sa mga nakikita ko sa showrooms is puro white na. Hoping na may available sila na black
Deletewe are planning to buy a new car before 2016 ends, top on our list is the facelifted 2017 MAZDA 3 1.5V sedan and TOYOTA ALTIS 1.6V.. can anyone here tell us what is the difference between the 2 cars? we need your advice as to what car is the best one to buy..
ReplyDeleteThe Mazda 3 is an updated 2017 model and it triumphs the Altis in all criteria. The Altis is more spacious though.
Deletesir uly anong mga color po ang meron sa mazda 3 speed

ReplyDelete2017 Mazda 2's 1.5L Premium Hatchback Top of the Line Variant OR 2017 Mazda 3's 1.5L V Hatchback Base Model?
