MX-5 ND Chief Designer and now the model’s Program Manager, Masashi Nakayama, from Mazda Corporation, Japan, graced the special event and personally turned over the keys to the first 11 new owners of the MX-5 RF in the country.
“It is a special day for us at Mazda Philippines to see the smiling, happy owners of the newly launched MX-5 RF drive away with their brand new cars, shares Steven Tan, president and CEO of BAP. He adds, “Having Nakayama-san personally give the keys them makes the event even more meaningful as it is not always one gets to meet the person who designed the car he or she drives.”
Most of the new MX-5 RF owners are members of the Miata Club Philippines, the 20-year old car club of MX-5 enthusiasts whose loyalty to the two-seat, open top roadster has remained steadfast over the years.
The MX-5 RF - Retractable Fastback, is the latest addition to the lineup of MX-5 variants since it was first launched in 1989. With its timeless sports car styling, Mazda has aimed to provide the additional safety, security and functionality of a power retractable hardtop, with the classically elegant form of a fastback.
The MX-5 RF boasts the same compact packaging as the soft-top model; except for a 5-mm increase in the height of the roof, it maintains the same overall length, width, and wheelbase. This compact packaging properly expresses the stability and dynamism of the car’s road-gripping stance.
“We expect the MX-5 RF to expand the audience of our best-selling sports car in the local market with the security, durability and comfort afforded by the power-retractable hardtop version, adds Tan.
