Honda Cars Philippines refreshes the City sedan for 2017 (2018 model year). Honda’s best-selling offering in the country, the 2018 City exhibits a high-tech and sporty design, class-leading fuel efficiency and comfort, and above class safety that provides the smartest ownership experience.
Developed under the grand concept of “Advanced Energetic Smart Star” the new City gets redesigned front and rear ends giving it a sharper and more aggressive look. The redesigned front fascia in particular, gives a wider and lower stance compared to the previous model. The 2018 City now comes equipped with LED daytime running lights with the top variant VX+ getting the added benefit of LED headlights and LED front fog lights. Sandwiched by the new headlights is a grille that’s more upright. It incorporates the Solid Wing motif with a honeycomb insert. At each corner are new alloy wheel designs with the VX and VX+ getting diamond-cut 16-inchers and the E CVT getting 15-inchers. The VX and VX+ variants also receive the convenience of power folding side mirrors.
Inside, the City continues with its high-tech yet user-friendly design. For 2018, it receives a slight makeover with a new decorative panel and leather seats (for the VX+). The new Gun Metallic panels surrounding the air conditioning vents and gearshift add more flair while the gauges and push start button have been tweaked for better legibility. For added convenience during long drives, the VX and VX+ models now come equipped with Cruise Control.
Already a leader in infotainment technology, the 2018 City boasts of a new 7-inch touchscreen audio system for the E CVT, VX, and VX+ variants. All come as standard with Bluetooth hands-free telephone and audio streaming, and USB capability. The VX and VX+ goes further, adding a standard navigation system, multi-view reverse camera with guidelines, voice command, Miracast, and Cube User Interface.
Under the hood, the 2018 City remains powered by the same 1.5-liter SOHC i-VTEC engine that produces 120 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 4,800 rpm. The engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual (for the base E variant) or an Earth Dreams Technology Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with paddle shifters for the VX and VX+ variants. The new City also features Honda’s Eco Assist System which consists of the ECON button and an eco-coaching ambient light meter that promotes smart and fuel-efficient driving habits.
In terms of safety, the new City further establishes itself as an uncompromising choice as all variants come equipped with Dual SRS airbag and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). Meanwhile, the VX+ variant adds side and curtain airbags (total 6 airbags), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), and Emergency Stop Signal (ESS).
The 2018 City is now available at all Honda dealerships nationwide with the following color options: Lunar Silver Metallic (new color); Gold Brown Metallic (VX and VX+); Ruby Red Pearl (VX, E CVT); Taffeta White; Modern Steel; and Crystal Black Pearl (VX, E CVT, E MT). And in a pleasant surprise, HCPI is keeping the pricing the same as its predecessor: P 764,000 (1.5 E MT); P 804,000 (1.5 E CVT); P 913,000 (1.5 VX CVT); P 1,003,000 (1.5 VX+ CVT).
And like other Honda models, Honda is also offering genuine Modulo accessories for the new City for added style.
It looks nice and it is a great subcompact, 2nd in line with my choice of subcompacts. Now, where is the anonymous saying that the City has 10 airbags? lol. Personally, the updated 2017 Mazda 2 which still haven't arrived here is still my choice, due to it being more fun to drive and having a more luxurious cabin design, feel, and ambiance. I won't buy a subcompact if I need space though. Buy an mpv if you need space.
ReplyDeleteFun to drive? LOL They're both boring.
DeleteSobrang Dilip naman mazda 2 mag swift ka Na lang kung ganun
Delete"Fun to drive? LOL They're both boring."
DeleteClearly you haven't driven the Mazda 2, or any Mazda for that case. I've driven Vios and City, and by God, I'll never consider those two anymore.
No you have not, stop fooling us here.
DeleteMaybe you have the Mazda2 - and that's because of free 3-year PMS. You're cheap, and that's it.
Yes, nangtotroll lang yan. But i have to disagree, maintaining a mazda even with the yojin3 is not cheap, even the unit ay mas mahal kesa sa iba.
DeleteMazda is cheap? lol. You buy toyotas and hondas mainly due to the resale value and availability of cheaper parts, so who is cheap now? The quality of materials and the design of Mazda are a notch higher than any non luxury car brand.
DeleteWow.. like RR and Bentley? LMAO
DeleteDream on.
I didn't said anything about RR and Bentley dummy, better read again. Compare the current Skyactiv Mazdas to any Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, etc and you'll see the difference in the quality of the materials and the design layout. On the other hand, the new Subaru models have equally high quality cabins, but the interior design is quite plain.
DeleteBest in design layout? Or must say, best in copying BMW's interior design? LOL!
DeleteYES BMWesque interior, but still nice tho hehe
DeleteI have to agree with some of the comments here. When I test drove the Mazda 2, it highly resembled the interior design of BMW, it's nice, but you just couldn't shake the thought that it's a copycat.
DeleteI have nothing against the Mazda 2 though, because in terms of driving dynamics, it is really unrivaled, heck if I was still a bachelor, I would have gladly picked the Mazda 2 over my Honda City.
Will the E M/T still have the wheel covers?
ReplyDeleteSana they throw-in the TRON-like gauges as E as well.
E M/T will still have wheel covers. As for gauges, it will have white illumination but simpler gauges.
DeleteThe City will always be a smarter choice than the Civic. Cheaper and more practical to drive and own in Metro Manila streets. It is perfect for singles or small families. If you need more space, get a crossover.
ReplyDeleteTouch screen na din hu sa E variant tama po ba?
ReplyDeleteYes, except E M/T.
DeleteDoes it have miracast na din po ba sa E variant?
ReplyDeleteNo. Miracast only available on VX and VX+.
DeleteThe best in its class just got better! The added features without the added cost will just further widen its lead againts its competitors except the Vios (thanks to fleet sales).
ReplyDeleteP.S. Did they just remove the rear passenger side airbags and the rear curtain airbags (located in the C Pillar) that's present in the pre-facelift VX+ Navi models?
Nope. It's still there.
DeleteWorth noting that 8 airbags are fast becoming obsolete and replaced by full side curtains airbags that offer the same level of protection. The City VX+'s airbag count remains at 6. Don't use the number of times the airbag label comes out as an indicator of how many airbags it has hehe.
The City VX+ and Civic RS has 10 airbags if we're to count it in pieces. Honda has a IG post last December 7,2015 to accentuate it further but they turned it down just recently for unknown reasons.
DeleteThat's worth noting Sir Uly. Im actually wondering why some carmakers count it by stages in conjunction with how many it has in actual since they're separately positioned while others, they just count it by stage.
Ahm, no. That's not the best in its class. I've driven it for a month, and the Mazda2 is way way better that this.
DeleteThey are the same, the only advantage Mazda2 has is the 3-year free PMS. And for the love of God, stop stating Mazda2 is an enthusiast car.
DeleteMazda2 is an enthusiast car.
DeleteThere goes the idiot, he said it again. Although I too agree that the M2 is the best car in its segment and is truly an enthusiast car, I dont go spitting it on other people. Learn to accept the that other people are entitled to their own opinion, bro. Although, cheers to M2.
DeleteAn enthusiast car pitted against Vios/City? lol
DeleteThere you go Anonymous honda fanboy, told ya it is impossible that a non luxury b segment or even c segment car to have 10 airbags, that's ridiculous. You are spreading false information. To any buyers there, try test driving the City then the Mazda 2 to see the difference, you'll see ;)
Delete-Original Mazda fanboy.
First of all, im not a Honda fanboy.
DeleteThe Civic RS and City VX+ has the ff airbag configuration:
Dual Front airbags
Dual Front side airbags
Front curtain airbags (A Pillar)
Dual Rear side airbags
Dual Rear curtain airbags (C Pillar)
It may be a 6 stage set up but im counting it based on its numbers and even some carmakers do it that way. Im not spreading false information due to the fact that im not a brochure guy like you. Im a true car guy that checks it out personally and gather real info's before purchasing unlike a pure Mazda fanboy like you.
P.S. To any buyers out there test drive and check out all of the features and inherent qualities of the Mazda 2 and City, you'll see who's the better all rounder.
Officially, it's 6 airbags. The curtain airbags inflate at the same time. As mentioned above, don't count the number of times the SRS label appears.
DeleteWith that, continue the flame wars.
In a sense, i agree Sir Uly that it deploys simultaneously with regards to the front and curtain airbags, hence the 6 stage set up.
DeleteBut on the other side, there's the front and rear side airbags (located in the edges of the seats), it's different from the curtain airbags although it deploys simultaneously with the curtain airbags.
Scenario: You got bumped in the rear area (in the vicinity of the C Pillar area), the rear passenger side airbag simultaneous with the Curtain airbags will deploy while the front passenger side airbags won't. It's different though if you get bumped in the vicinity of the B Pillar since it'll deploy all those Curtain and side airbags all at once due to the sensor locations. Different scenario as well if you get bumped in the front. That's what im pointing at sir it's a good analysis for car buyers actually, no to flame wars :-)
I did that, (test drive the Mazda2, Honda city, even Vios and swift), I even had a 2015 city for a month. But I prefer the M2. The only thing I like about the City is the space. And the driving experience, I never liked CVT, anlayo sa M2. But if you prefer the City, its ok also.
DeleteIt is not rewarding to be the jack of all trades you know. Yeah, I agree with you that buyers looking for a subcompact should try and test drive the city and the mazda 2, they'll see.
DeleteBeen contemplating between Mazda 2 and Honda City last January.
DeleteTest drove both, driving the Mazda 2 is more engaging, while the City is just ok, the CVT is not as engaging as the Skyactiv, you wouldn't even notice that you've already reach 80 kmph+ because the CVT of the City is so quiet and so linear, in contrast with the Skyactiv's zoom zoom feels.
In the end, I still chose the City, primarily because I need the legroom and space, since my wife is 2 months pregnant, it was easier for her to hop in the city, than in the mazda 2.
But if I was a bachelor, without any doubt, I'd pick the Mazda 2.
I still do find a bit of fun though with the City, when I switch to'S' mode and downshift using the paddleshifters. Eventually it'll grow up on you. My decision was primarily because I want my wife and my baby in her womb to be comfortable.
May gps navigation na din po ba yung E CVT variant?
ReplyDeleteCity @ 1M? Is it reasonable?
ReplyDeleteIs it worth @ 1M?
Godbless!
Personally, yes. The added safety system plus the LED headlights and leather seats make it worth it. If you can stretch your budget a bit more, go VX+. Or Civic.
DeleteAgreed. Safest in its class, good fuel economy, large space, totally practical. And I think you get the Jazz's Magic Seats in the VX+ model.
DeleteThe City VX+ gets split folding rear seats, but this is different from the Jazz's Magic Seats (or what we locally call ULTR seats).
DeleteAno po mas maganda, Toyota Wigo or Honda City? I know mas malaki ang city, pero overall, mas maganda po ba sya at mas sulit, o mas maganda ang Wigo?
ReplyDeleteI'm a Mazda guy, but don't ever get the Wigo or any A segment car, get the city. The 200k price premium is well worth it because if you'll be owning a car for at least 3-5 years, better get a one you'll be satisfied. In subcompact cars, the City and the Mazda 2 are the best options out there. However, if you are keen to save more fuel, get the Accent Diesel but it will be bare compared to the City and Mazda 2 as well as less reliable.
DeleteThank Sir. Sorry newbie here. I'm considering also yung Mazda 2 kase andaming magagandang review. Pati yung kakilala ko na naka Mazda 2 mas nirerecommend kesa wigo o city o vios. Madaming salamat po.
DeleteTest-drive as long as you can, then decide.
DeleteDon't let paid Ads/review decide for you.
I wholeheartedly trust Sir Uly, as compared to the fat guys in top gear ph who praises every car they review. Test drive the city and the mazda 2 before deciding. Also, if you are single, the Mazda 2 will serve you well, but if you need a subcompact that will haul 4-5 people, get the city because it is spacious. For the Mazda 2, you will enjoy the drive and ownership experience though sacrificing the rear legroom in the 2nd row seats but if you choose the City, you will sacrifice the excellent driving dynamics of the Mazda 2 as well as the 3 years free PMS(5 year PMS in other dealerships).
DeleteI will mga Sir. thank you po.
DeleteI agree, test drive all of your options, this is very important. As for me, I'm married and has now a 9-month old daughter. But I still got the Mazda2. Not sacrificing my driving experience for the space since hindi pa namin kailangan ang malaking sasakyan.
DeleteI have the Mazda 2 and the rear leg room is not that bad unless your rear seat occupants are nearing 6 foot in height.
DeleteBut still it pales in comparison with the City, you can sit comfortably even with the front seats pulled back to its limits.
Also M2 have a huge transmission tunnel at the middle whereas City it's almost non existent.
I still chose M2 because of it's better driving dynamics and better looking interior, the City is just dull to drive IMO.
Anyway both are still the best in it's class.
City for it's practicality and M2 for driving fun.
Which of the two car the mazda2 and the city is fuel efficient thanks.
DeleteLame update, just aesthetics, no real improvement.
ReplyDeleteJust like you.
DeleteIt's priced the same with a couple of convenience features.
DeleteStill a good deal though :)
Mazda2 owner here.. hate to admit it but this city is slick. love my M2 tho.
ReplyDeleteThe refresh looks great. It's definitely now the most "complete" subcompact in the market atm in terms of features.
ReplyDeletewhats the difference between the tires of the 2017 and 2018 Honda City E model? (except of course the size, 15" for the E and 16" for the VX and VX+)
ReplyDeleteVx, Vx+ city or civic e?
ReplyDeleteHope Honda comes up with a City na VX+ yung features, but has a manual transmission. Best of both worlds, for me.
ReplyDeleteHi Sir what would be the recommended fuel octane rating for city 2017
ReplyDelete91 octane.
Deletedoes its E m/t variant will also have the diamond cut alloys?
ReplyDeleteNope. E MT has full wheel covers.
DeleteWas supposed to pull the trigger on Mazda 2 test drove it outside the country (Thailand) perfect road confition and I was almost sold. One problem is the interior. Its so good and so bad. The space although fitting g for that zoom feel is also annoying and claustrophobic in traffic jams as well as poor sound isolation. Your leg will eventually want to bend sideways but there will be no room for it.Now consider that when driving in the PH with all the noise, car honking, road condition and rain. (M2 makes a lot of rain noise too) I just can't take that kind of added stress anymore. I checked out the City and although lacking in that torque/zoom feeling would be a better car for the driving conditions which I will face in Manila. If you live in an area where you don't have to worry about noise and roads M2. For Manila or any City like it get the Honda City.
ReplyDeleteStill no Android Auto or Apple Carplay? I am hoping the Jazz update to be released this year gets one
ReplyDeletefuel consumption of e m/t?
