Why You Need to Give Your New Car a Detail
When you buy a new car, you expect it to roll right out of the factory in pristine condition, right? Unfortunately, that’s not what happens. Chances are, it’s been sitting for quite some time at the plant, in a vehicle stockyard, or in a showroom. Yes, it’ll be spot cleaned and buffed up here and there prior to the release, but it won’t replace a full-on professional detail.
One of the major reasons in why your new car needs to be detailed is tied to what happens between rolling out of the factory and being parked in your driveway. Chances are the distribution center and the dealership touched your car beforehand. And though the dealer may give it a quick polish as part of their pre-delivery procedure, most of them don’t have the time or manpower to do detailing thoroughly. The polish they apply may hide the damage for a few weeks, but once that has diminished, you’ll start noticing all sorts of fine scratches and swirl marks.
Plus, contrary to popular belief, carmakers do not apply a protective layer of wax on the car for you. The car you receive is basically “naked” with the clear coat protecting the paint and nothing to protect the clear coat itself. This leaves your finish susceptible to environmental contaminants such as dust, debris, bird droppings, and the sun’s UV rays.
Now that you know why it’s important to get your new car detailed, don’t be in a hurry to head over to a professional detailer. It’s best to wait a few weeks or until the fine scratches and swirl marks come out. This makes it easier for professional detailers to know what they’re working with. Interestingly, the absence of swirl marks and scratches is a sign that the car you’re getting is fresh straight from the factory as opposed to being in a lot for months.
As a perfect example of how a detailing job can benefit even a brand-new car, Sonax recently detailed the long-term Machine Gray Metallic Mazda3 Speed. Going through their prescribed detailing process, the Mazda now looks even better compared to when it rolled off the Mazda Makati showroom last May. The paint looks deeper and fuller. And of course, it’s also free from fine scratches and swirl marks (see the before and after photos).

ReplyDeleteWhat can you say about the Full Body Paint Protection Film by Zeibart, Sir Uly?
I'm not familiar with this. Is this a spray on or do they apply it like a film?
DeleteIt's a transparent film that they apply sir Uly, if im not mistaken it has a 10 yr warranty. Waxing will be optional once you have that installed.
DeleteIt's expensive though for a full body protection, around 100k for CUV and SUV then a little bit less for sedans.
The only negative part is during the removal process. Some of these films may actually peel a bit of your paint off. That said, when done properly, it should offer some considerable level of protection. Why not just film parts like the bumper and hood? These are the areas that are susceptible to stone chips and the like?
DeleteYes, it's good but will eventually return to the original condition in due time. Why baby the car too much? OCD perfectionist?
ReplyDeleteYou do need to protect the paint otherwise it will get dull. It may not be noticeable, but if you have your car detailed, you will see the difference quite quickly.
DeleteWow, looks stunning Mr. Uly! Will do the same when I get mine. Just one question, how long should a person wait before having their vehicle professionally detailed? About a month after taking it out from the dealership? Also, does the detailing company recommend that a person who had their vehicle professionally detailed come back? Maybe after 6 months or a year? Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteI had mine after the first 1,000 PMS so that's about a month and a half since I got the unit.
DeleteAs for detailing? If you're OC, it should be every 6 months. But every year is good enough.
That said, if you put in some sort of paint sealant like a ceramic coating, some of them are guaranteed to last for 3-5 years.
DeleteThanks Mr. Uly! Perhaps every year should be fine with proper washing at home. Will do some research regarding ceramic coating, sounds like it might be the same technology we see in ceramic kitchen pans today.
DeleteSir Ulysses, I have an 11 month old black fortuner, minor scratches are visible, is it still advisable to have it detailed? and where to find detailer here in cebu? my first car so I dont have idea yet? thanks...
ReplyDeleteHell yes! Bilisan mo. Pa detail mo agad tapos paint sealant.
DeleteDo you have a recommended shop that does this kind of detailing? The FB and website page is for the product itself and doesn't mention anything about where to get the service. Location is Quezon City near Banawe. Thanks
ReplyDeleteYou can send them a DM, they can help you.
DeleteHello sir uly, have you heard about crystal quartz? Based on what I have read, it cost around 16k to 29k for sedans and it's clear wet-look outcome can last up to 5yrs. Do you recommend it? Tnx
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand, it's all the same. Glass coating, ceramic coating, etc. Different names, same thing.
DeleteDoes detailing include fixing of key scratch? I think mine got through the base paint
ReplyDeleteYes it does. However, if the paint is already too thin in that particular area, the detailer can only minimize the visible scratches.
