Aston Martin Releases V8 Powered DB11 (w/ 13 Photos)
After wowing the crowds with its twin-turbo V12, Aston Martin has announced that its DB11 grand tourer will be made available with a twin-turbo V8. Perfectly complimenting the existing V12 variant, the DB11 V8 provides a new opportunity to reveal more of its sporting character while also expanding its appeal with a combination of exceptional performance and improved fuel efficiency.
The company’s move to introduce a smaller engine into the DB11 is sparked by markets whose taxation policy is dictated by engine displacement such as China. As such, the DB11 V8 packs four liters of displacement, enabling it to produce 503 horsepower and 675 Nm of torque. 100 km/h is hit in just 4 seconds and terminal velocity is reached at 300 km/h.
Supplied by Aston Martin’s new technical partner, Mercedes-AMG, this V8 engine is tailor-made for the DB11 with a specific air intake, exhaust, and wet-sump lubrication system. The British supercar maker has also calibrated the engine’s ECU to ensure it possesses “better feel and sound.”
With the more compact engine being 115 kilograms lighter than the V12, Aston Martin has modified the DB11 with new engine mounts in order to mount the V8 as low as possible for an optimized center of gravity. The DB11 V8 will also have an increased feel of agility thanks to unique suspension geometry, anti-roll bars, dampers, and stability control settings.
Aesthetically, there are subtle differences between the V8 and V12 variants with the former getting unique alloy wheels, dark headlamp bezels, and a pair of hood vents as opposed to four on the V12.
Aston Martin Manila is already taking orders for the DB11 V8 with deliveries that could start as early as the end of 2017.
