Mercedes-Benz Posts Strongest Half-Year Sales Ever
In the first six months of 2017, Mercedes-Benz was more successful than ever before in a half-year. 209,309 cars were delivered to customers in June (+11.1 percent) and 1,144,274 in the first six months of the year (+13.7 percent).
The Stuttgart-based automaker saw new sales records, significantly surpassing its prior-year unit sales both in June and in the first six months of the year. In addition, the second quarter was the best-ever quarter with 583,649 vehicles delivered worldwide (+11.6 percent). In terms of new cars registered, Mercedes-Benz was the strongest premium brand in the domestic market Germany, as well as in the markets Italy, France, Belgium, Portugal, Austria, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Taiwan, the USA, Canada and Brazil in June.
In Asia-Pacific markets, majority of the growth happened in China with a 34.5 percent increase. This is significantly higher than the previous record number of cars sold in China in the prior-year period and to a large extent reflects the strong sales of locally produced vehicles. Mercedes-Benz achieved further first-half sales records in the markets South Korea (+47.3 percent), Australia (+8.5 percent), Taiwan (+10.9 percent), and India (+8.7 percent).
In terms of models, the C-Class was the best-seller among all Mercedes-Benz models followed by the E-Class (+68.4 percent). Their SUV lineup is doing quite well too, delivering a total of 385,044 units for half a year or a 13.4 percent increase. The bestseller among the SUVs was the GLC, followed by the GLA.
