7-Seater, Diesel-Powered 2018 Honda CR-V Lands in the Philippines (w/ 29 Photos, Specs, Video)

Seven seats. Diesel engine. These are the two key words that describe the perfect SUV for Filipino families; words that now amply describe the all-new 2018 Honda CR-V. As Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI)’s first ever diesel offering, the fifth-generation CR-V arrives to potentially steal the thunder (and sales) away from lumbering ladder-on-frame SUVs with its exceptional driving performance, all-around riding comfort, bold and sophisticated styling, and premium and upscale interior.

All 7-seater variants of the 2018 CR-V are powered by a 1.6-liter DOHC i-DTEC turbo diesel engine developed under Earth Dreams technology. Using an aluminum block along with optimized pistons and connecting rods, this engine is light in weight, but heavy in performance. Producing 120 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and 300 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, this downsized turbo diesel engine is clean, quiet, and efficient. Mated to this engine is a new 9-speed automatic transmission with a push-button Electronic Gear Selector and Paddle Shifters. The wide gear ratios allow the CR-V to attain low noise levels and high fuel efficiency figures—up to 18.9 km/L based on Honda’s tests.

Meanwhile, Honda retains the services of its 2.0-liter SOHC i-VTEC engine exclusively for the sole 5-seater variant. This tried-and-tested motor continues to produce 154 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 189 Nm of torque at 4,300 rpm. New to this model though is a new Earth Dreams Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) for improved fuel efficiency.

The 2018 CR-V rides on an all-new platform to provide a more agile and confident handling. Its wider front and rear track combined with front MacPherson Struts and rear Multi-link suspension promotes a more responsive turn-in and cornering. An enhanced Real Time All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system on the top-of-the-line SX variant adds an extra layer of handling prowess by allowing power and torque to be distributed across all four wheels maximizing traction and stability on any road condition.

And to top these chassis improvements, the all-new CR-V’s ground clearance has been raised up as well. The AWD-equipped SX is up to 208 millimeters (making it the highest riding among Honda’s local lineup) while the 2WD models stand at 198 millimeters.

Outside, the all-new CR-V heads to a fresh new direction with a more aggressive design. Revolving around the design concept of “Modern Functional Dynamic”, the CR-V features a sharp-lined grille that reflects an aggressive, yet sportier look. Over to the side, the wide and muscular fenders are filled by standard 18-inch alloy wheels while at the back, is a tailgate spoiler. All variants have full LED headlights with Guide-Type LED daytime running lights (DRL) with the SX adding High Beam Support (it toggles between low and high beams automatically when driving in the dark). Additionally, the SX gets a panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, and rain-sensing wipers.

Honda’s penchant in creating a “Man-Maximum, Machine-Minimum” interior continues with the all-new CR-V. The bold and sophisticated exterior is complemented by a cockpit that revolves around smart utility. It offers heightened levels of luxury and comfort while offering a true high-tech experience. Filled with upscale features, it offers black leather seating and premium accents for all variants.

Upon entry, the driver is welcomed by a highly informative full-color Thin Film Transistor (TFT) instrument cluster. The driver’s seat on the SX is fitted with an electronic 8-way power adjustment with 4-way lumbar support to offer impressive levels of comfort. The two other rows are no less impressive with the second-row seats in the 7-seater variants offering 60/40 split sliding and reclining function for easy access into the third row. Meanwhile, the third row reclines in a 50/50 split. Additionally, independent A/C controls and vents are standard across all rows with the second row getting two USB charging ports located at the center console.

When not ferrying the family, the all-new CR-V also boasts of unparalleled cargo capacity. It can accommodate 472 liters of cargo (522 liters for the 5-seater variant) with the third-row seats tumbled and 967 liters with both the second and third rows tumbled down.

Completing the CR-V’s modern and high-tech interior is an impressive infotainment system headlined by a 7-inch touchscreen Display Audio system. Offering intuitive operation, it offers all sorts of multimedia and hands-free functionality along with a multi-view reverse camera with dynamic guidelines. The S and SX variants add standard GPS navigation and additional controls for its dual-zone climate control system.

The 2018 CR-V’s class-leading performance and top-notch packaging is rounded off by unparalleled safety. Across the lineup, it’s equipped with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold, Agile Handling Assist (AHA), Driver Attention Monitor, Dual SRS airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HAS), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), and a low tire pressure warning system. Additional safety features such as Honda LaneWatch camera, side airbags, curtain airbags, and a Walk Away Auto Lock features are standard on the S and SX variants.

Further cementing the CR-V’s leadership in safety, the SX variant comes standard with Honda SENSING technology. This suite of safety and driver assistive technologies aid the driver to prevent or effectively respond to dangerous driving situations. It includes: Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Low Speed Follow (LSF), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), and Lane Departure Warning (LDW).

Starting August 9, 2017, all 36 Honda Car dealerships will start accepting reservations for the all-new 2018 CR-V. The 5-seater gasoline variant is readily available now with deliveries for the 7-seater diesel variants starting by the end of September. The all-new CR-V will come in 6 colors: Passion Red Pearl (new color, SX Diesel 9AT AWD and S Diesel 9AT only); Lunar Silver Metallic (SX Diesel 9AT AWD and S Diesel 9AT only); Dark Olive Metallic (new color, all variants); White Orchid Pearl (plus P 20,000, all variants); Modern Steel Metallic (all variants); and Crystal Black Pearl (all variants).

The all-new Honda CR-V will carry the following suggested retail prices: 2.0S CVT 5-seater (P 1,539,000); V Diesel 9AT 7-seater (P 1,569,000); S Diesel 9AT 7-seater (P 1,759,000); and SX Diesel 9AT AWD 7-Seater (P 2,049,000).

  2. 120hp at 2.1M? What happened to the 160hp diesel? I wonder if Honda PH is just plain greedy or immensely stupid.

    1. Our engine is not the same as the Thai version. Ours use a different turbo, tuning, etc. this is due to our poorer fuel quality.

    2. I thought we were already euro 4 here? also even the accent has 136hp and 350nm of torque, this has to lug around 3 rows of seats and power the AWD system. damn honda, I think they are just playing it safe here.
better get an everest or forester or even the outback 2.5

    3. Yes, we have Euro 4 Fuel already but every country has different "limit levels" when it comes to emission standards. Factors such as climate and others are taken into account when it comes to blending fuel.

    4. Some are saying that the engine used for CR-V here is India sourced; same 120hp spec'd?? I am just thinking na fuel natin dito is just on-par with India and still way behind Thailand fuel Euro-quality??

    5. Sir who says we are at different levels of EURO 4 for every country.. just a question there... How come it is called standard if there are different levels of EURO 4 limit levels,... then it is not standard...

    6. Why only 1.6L for a seven seater SUV

  3. Diesel engines need more torque than horsepower as far as i know

  4. Dang...120hp and 300nm....that's down from 160hp and 350nm in other asean markets...I already put down a deposit but now thinking twice about It...why can't Honda just maintain the other Asean countries' specs?!

    1. Again, it's down to our diesel fuel. In as much as HCPI wanted to bring in the 160 hp, 350 Nm of torque engine, Honda Japan didn't certify our fuels to meet their requirements.

      Delete
    2. I don't buy that inferior diesel excuse, how come all the European makes bring in their diesel engines on par with European specs? Same goes with Japanese and Korean makes. Doesn't make sense

      Delete
    3. Oh you didn't know? European engines are prone to failure when gulping our shitty diesel. The repairs will make you want to shoot yourself in the head.

    4. Anonymous 11:14 PM is actually on the right track somehow. Euro diesels will command a higher maintenance cost because their particulate filters will need regular cleaning...sometimes below 50k. Typically, these European car companies include them as part of PMS. For Honda though, I don't think they can levy an expensive PMS cost just for CR-V owners.

      Delete
    5. Besides, it will probably make it a lot more expensive. I've read that this engine is 47 kg lighter than the bigger 2.0 engine, that's equal to the weight of a full size adult. Remember the now Jurassic 2.5 diesel Innova was 110 hp only and it was adequate already.

      Delete
    6. Ah, isn't the 160 hp the same 1.6L engine? Why would it need a different fuel standard?

      Delete
    7. Ulysees, if you can buy expensive vehicle, are you afraid of the high maintenance cost? You think Honda maintenance cost is low? No way. What a piece of crap the thinking about our fuel.

      Delete
    8. Let's just say P 2.1M isn't the same as P 3.1M. Or so Honda thinks.

      Delete
    9. The point is, if you are capable of buying a high end vehicle, why do you worry about the maintenance cost? That alibi of poor fuel quality is a piece of crap. Why in the hell that high end manufacturer kept bringing their expensive vehicles in Philippines if the fuel quality is so poor? The most probable answer in my mind is that, Honda can't do a good Diesel engine

      Delete
    10. I agree diesel fuel is a very stupid reason for not giving the other version. If diesel is the prob why dnt other luxury car companies both asian and western doesnt have this excuse. its lame stupid and unacceptable but the thing is we get what they sell so dont buy this crap.

  22. Can anyone tell me especially the author, why say our fuel is dirty even compared to countries that has the same euro 4 standard like Thailand? It just doesn't make sense to me. If that is an international standard why is ours dirtier? Mr. Author I hope you can pose this question to a qualified expert and not rely on the car companys' answer. I have a suspicion they're just using that as an excuse to justify using older and cheaper engines here.

    2. My conspiracy theory here is that they want the diesel variant to compete with the PPV pricing (entry level is just over Php 1.5M). If they used the "normal diesel engine" the entry level will be about Php 1.8M, which is at the high-end side of PPVs. This shows why Honda really lost it mojo. 2. Well I think Hyundai-Kia's strategy is better. Tone down the amenities which most might not need while offering a world class engine. Honda is offering a substandard engine in the CRV while Mazda is doing the same with the 3.

  44. Bwahaha, lame excuse again from HCPI for bringing in the detuned 1.6L diesel version for that price. Dirty fuel kuno. If you need diesel in a monocoque-chassis SUV, and you don't need 7 cramped seats, the Mazda CX-5 SkyActiv-D w/ the twin-turbo 2.2L *Euro 6-compliant* engine is the no-brainer choice at this price segment. Only Honda ricer fanb0is would say otherwise.

    https://www.mazda.ph/skyactiv-d/

"The Mazda 2.2L Skyactiv-D is the most technologically advanced clean diesel engine from Mazda that emits ultra-low NOx emission that complies with stringent Euro 6 standards without expensive NOx after treatment. Its lowest in the world 14:1 compression enables reduction in engine weight and mechanical friction, resulting in world-beating fuel efficiency. High torque, smooth and linear power delivery is contributed by two-stage twin turbochargers—one small plus one large turbo, achieving high torque and response at low speeds, and high power at high speeds."

Yes, Philippines, the Skyactiv-D is now here and it’s going to transform how you’ll drive…173 horsepower at 4,500 rpm and 420 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. And these numbers come from 2.2 liters of displacement with twin turbos and variable valve timing. It’s the automotive equivalent of having your cake and eating it too.” – CarGuide.ph

    1. Mazda is also one of the tightest compact suv around. Its interior is so disappointing since my compact car feels a lot roomier than that. People buy SUV for one reason - more space. All that talk about better handling etc. falls flat in terms of practicality. Maybe that's why CX5 does not sell well at all.

      Delete
    2. LOL. If you need interior space there are larger SUVs at this price range. That's why I said if you don't need more than 5 seats then the CX-5 is better in all aspects. Mazda doesn't sell as well as Toyota & Honda because of brand ignorance & gaya-gaya mentality of typical car buyers who don't do research before buying their cars.

      Delete
    3. I use only five seats but I was disappointed by the interior space of the cx5, most compact cars have better room in their first two rows. While its important to research what's more important is sitting and driving the car. It may handle well but if your passengers complain on space its all for naught. Suvs are primarily family vehicles for one.

      Delete
    4. Again, if your issue is space, then don't buy the CX 5. Or don't buy any Mazda for that matter. Mazda is not about space. Kung space kailangan mo, maghanap ka sa Honda. Mahirap bang intindihin yun? many people buy Mazda bacause they don't need space. I, for one, is among them.

  50. Wow. So much vitriol from people who miss the point of this vehicle entirely. Its a Compact Utility Vehicle. It doesn't compete with medium-size Sport Utility Vehicles such as the Montero Sport, Fortuner, etc. Furthermore, that 1.6L diesel will sip less fuel while sitting in EDSA rush hour traffic. Moreover, my Montero with 130ish hp and 314Nm of torque tops out at 175kph and can effortlessly ferry 7 passengers up Kennon Road. 120hp and 300Nm is more than enough for the smaller and lighter CRV. Each vehicle is put into a category based on it's primary design purpose. It would not be fair to criticize it for something it was not designed for.

These types of vehicles aren't meant to be driven in excess of 120kph on a regular basis as they are prone to toppling over. To drive SUV's and crossovers like they're Subaru WRX's is totally missing the point. Don't forget the new CRV has 9 speed auto, and weighs 800lbs lighter than these PPVs

    2. 2.5 fortuner with 102hp is so so not adequate....its ok city driving glat road...but here comes a steep hill or steep incline? You have to give a head start speed if not? Your dead...and im the only one driver passenger...what more if its full of passenger

  51. I agree that crv is not made for races, but the reason why many people are disappointed is because on that price range you can get more powerful crossovers, like cx-5, and the quality of diesel here in our country is not the one to blame for this, in fact mazda ph was able to bring the diesel cx-5 with much much more power than cr-v

  53. And another thing, why would i not compare cx5 and crv if these 2 are on the same category? Whah do u think? Crv is in the same level of ecosport and trax? That's why they are on the friekin same category, kumbaga sa studyante, parehas ng grade, not thnking,

    1. Wala naman akong sinabi na wag ikumpara ang cx5 sa crv bobo. Ang sabi ko wag ikumpara ang power ng 2.2L sa 1.6L diesel... obvious naman mas malakas yung 2.2L. Mga engot!!!

  54. There's a lot of skepticism as to this engine's capability for a 7 seater. To compare, the old Innova's 2.5L auto is 101hp w/ a curb weight of 1,670kg, this one is 119hp, 1,615kg w/ a 9 speed tranny. Both are 7 seaters. There's no argument among Innova owners(I'm one) it's adequate. So based on those comparisons I'd say the new CRVs fwd is more than enough to pull it. As to the 4x4(100kg heavier), well, 4x4 is all about power. Lot's of extra power. Isn't that the idea of buying a 4x4? This one, I'd say Honda's testing the patience of Filipinos. The 160hp is imperative here. Don't give us that crap of our Euro 4 fuel is dirtier. You're not that much smarter than us.

  55. Who told you na kapag mas malaki makina mas malakas bobo?dahil sa 2.2 mas malakas na 1.6? Pki explain nga kung bakit ang kia rio 1.4 ex 107 hp but ford fiesta ecoobost is 120 hp, toyota fortuner 2.4 is 147hp, ford everest 2.2 is 158 hp, for your info dumb ass, hindi displacement ang laging titignan mo for u to know kung ilan ang hp, do your readings, do your homework crv fanboy

  57. Ang pinag uusapan ksi dito bobo mula pa sa simula ng comment, bkt nga 1.6 lng ang displacement na nilagay, ska eh anu kung malaki diff ng displacement ng cx5 at crv? Pero un lng 120hp is enough reason to make people disappointed, they used 1.6, if thats the case they should have use twin turbo, or diff tuning, to have more hp, but in crv's case ayun tinipid, tpos ung mga tulad mong fanboy tuwang tuwa pdn, 2m php suv 120hp? Kgya lng ng brv ang hanep

    1. Gago.....

  58. Wala naman n talagang magagawa ksi its a dumb choice to choose ur 120hp over cx5, there no reason for anyone not to compare, they are on the same segment dumb boy, and another thing why would we not compare it to cx5? If cx5 was able to give their suv more higher displacement, bakit di ginawa ng honda un? And yet dumb boys like u are still defending ur favorite 120hp suv, sorry for comparing the moghty cx5 to crv even if they are in the same segment, but oh they should have put the crv in the class of ecosport and trax para walang masabi mga bobong tulad mo na wag icompare sa ibang same segment suv's, goodluck dumbass

  60. Boys wag na mag-away. ALL vehicles are a series of compromises. Yes the CR-V could've had the 160hp version instead of the 120hp that we got, but then it's not 2,200,000 like the CX-5, and the CX5 is sized more like the HRV than the CRV

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. LOL. The TOTL CR-V is 2.1M as well. And you must be mistaking the CX-5 for the smaller CX-3, which is in the same category as the HR-V and XV. The current CX-5 interior is already bigger and has more comfortable and longer rear seats than the 1st-gen.

      Delete
    2. Well get the cx5. Not all of us wanted to have a higher hp engine... i dont need it. 1.6 consumes less fuel... & 120hp is enough to haul 7 pax. Ive test driven the CRV. Im contented with its power... i like the features and the looks over the cx5. Kung sa bisaya pa. Ayaw pagbout... nganu diay palit mi 2.1M crv vs 2.2m cx5?

  61. Sa akin mahalaga yung tinatawag na "headroom" that's why I won't buy the CR-V 1.6L at 120HP. Buti na yung sobra or me reserve power kapag kailangan kesa sabihing "pwede na yan" or "kaya na yan"

Idealy, dapat nasa mga 2.0L at around 180 HP ang compact SUV that's why I would be waiting for the VW Tiguan 2.0L Diesel. Mas mahal ng kaunti pero sulit.

Me kasabihan, if you hesitate, then don't go ahead.

Honda Phils we dare you to bring in the 160Hp here then magkaalaman kung magkano prize. At least me one more variant na pagpipilian. Nakasama pa yung naatat kami kakahintay ng CR-V diesel tapos medyo under power pa.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the CR-V, in fact I am upgrading my 1st gen CR-v kaya initially nagpareserved na ako. After reading this forum. I just withdrew my reservation.

  62. same displacement, same specs and mechanics... must have been detuned to meet whatever fuel quality bullshit they say we have... its just a matter of retuning.. you might want to spend a little for this.

  63. This weaker engine must be cheaper compared to the more robust engine. So, Honda Philippines will make more money selling CR-Vs with this weaker engine. Stop using that fuel quality BS.

  64. All this complaining about 120hp... but most of the whiners overlooked the f***ing 300Nm of torque for only 1,600kg+ weight. That is significantly lighter than most 3rd world SUVs. Might not be able to go that fast in the highway but it can sure haul ass.

Anyway, stop whining and reserve judgement once you've driven it yourself. Di niyo pa nga nasubukan puro angal na kayo! Ang huhusay niyo! Talo niyo pa si madam auring sa galing niyo mang hula! Bravo!

iba na ang panahon ngayon halos lahat maayos na casa and halos lahat meron din bad casa. in short nakadepende sa casa mo ang pms etc. try it mag pa qoute ka sa ibat ibang casa, iba iba din ibbgay sayo.

    4. Same here. i was undecided between CRV and CX-5 at first. Looking at my purpose and of buying a new car, and its competitive advantage I decided to pay my reservation fee to CRV. Although CX-5 has better driving experience and more powerful it is not enough to trounce the CRV's better fuel mileage, space and after-sales service.

  74. I suggest we test drive the new crv first. But if it is really underpowered im sure honda will come out with a better and more powerful engine. It has to sell the 1.6l 120 hp engine in the meantime to recoup on its failed investment. Be the victim.

Pagbumili ka ngayon magsisisi ka sa sunod dahil ipalabas mas hi-tek. Anyway mas mura ang sa ngayon compared sa upgraded. Paano nila ma justify ang price increase kung walang pangmalakasang pagbabago?
