Autokontrol Helps Promote Safety for Vehicle Fleets; Now Available in the Philippines
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority or MMDA reports that on the average, 10 bus-related accidents occur daily in Metro Manila. This is despite the presence of an existing law, Republic Act No. 10916, otherwise known as the Road Speed Limiter Act of 2016.
With accidents involving speeding trucks and buses becoming more common, Pioneer Truck Parts and Equipment Corporation has become a company on a mission of public safety. They are now the Philippine distributor of Autokontrol UK.
Autokontrol is an electronic control device that limits and controls a vehicle’s top speed—in other words, a speed limiter. Aside from the benefits of improving driver behavior and vehicle preservation, this device can also improve overall fuel consumption and cut maintenance cost of fleet owners.
“The ECU is connected to a speed signal (electronic speedometer, ABS or mechanical sensor) and receives frequency signals while the vehicle is moving. At a preset frequency, say 80 km/h, the ECU transmits a signal to the engine management system which then holds the vehicle’s speed. The operator and/or owner can preset the maximum speed of the truck or van as he wishes,” explains Benedict Go of Pioneer Corporation.
The system operates by way of Drive-By-Wire or romatic speed limiter for vehicles not equipped with an ECU.
Autokontrol is currently in use in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia sometimes fitted as a standard equipment for trucks, buses, and commercial vehicle fleet operations. The system has received approval from truck makers such as Toyota, Mitsubishi, Mercedes-Benz, Isuzu, Leyland, General Motors, Land Rover, and even from the British Ministry of Defense.
