Audi R8 V10 RWS is Designed for Purists (w/ 13 Photos)
Audi just released a new special edition R8 that breaks all molds for the brand. The new Audi R8 V10 RWS is the brand’s first-ever rear-wheel drive model—an inspiration the company says comes straight from its R8 LMS race car. Aimed at purists, it’s a limited-edition model with only 999 units being made.
Weighing some 50 kilograms lighter than the standard R8 Coupe V10, the R8 V10 RWS is powered by a mid-mounted V10 engine generating 540 horsepower and 540 Nm of torque. 0-100 km/h is achieved in just 3.7 seconds and the top speed is 320 km/h.
While the 5.2-liter engine remains seemingly untouched compared to the standard R8 Coupe, the R8 V10 RWS features a uniquely tuned suspension system taking into account the absence of its quattro all-wheel drive system. With a weight distribution of 40.6/59.4 front to back, the R8 V10 RWS’s chassis setup allows for drift mode. Audi also promises that the electromechanical power steering is free from torque steering, allowing for precise handling during these conditions.
The R8 V10 RWS is set apart by matte black design elements. This can be seen in the Singleframe grille, and air openings in the front and back. The wheels are made of cast aluminum with 19-inch tires as standard. A red film running over the hood, roof, and rear end similar to the R8 LMS GT 4 is optional. Inside, it gets sport and Alcantara seats as well as a dashboard bearing its serial number. Bucket seats are also available as an option.
