Several readers have pointed out that Toyota Motor Philippines has increased the price of their Fortuner considerably (as much as P 100,000) during the past few months. Though Toyota dealers have been giving a variety of reasons from the impending increase in new vehicle excise tax to even the weakening of the Peso versus the US Dollar, we have reached out to Toyota Motor Philippines for a definitive answer. The real reason, it seems, is an increase in equipment level.
Beginning with August shipments, the Toyota Fortuner has seen a minor tweak in specifications to address issues that had people complain that it was too bare for its price. Now, the 2017 Fortuner gets the following changes:
- Ventilated disc brakes (all models)
- LED front fog lights (V models)
- Automatic climate control (all models)
- Front corner sensors (V models)
- Back reverse sensors (all models)
- New fabric seat design (G models)
- Fortuner 2.4 G DSL M/T – P 1,465,000 (+P 79,000)
- Fortuner 2.7 G GAS A/T – P 1,471,000 (+ P 79,000)
- Fortuner 2.4 G DSL A/T – P 1,555,000 (P 79,000)
- Fortuner 2.4 V DSL A/T – P 1,833,000 (+ P 97,000)
- Fortuner 2.8 V DSL A/T – P 2,228,000 (+ P 102,000)
So what do you think of these changes?
...plus back sensor throughout the range
ReplyDeleteYup. Added that as well. Thanks for that.
DeleteCan you feature the Toyota Camry. Thank you
DeleteAll variants except for the G manual already has paddle shifters
ReplyDeleteThe initial specs didn't have paddle shifters back in 2016. Paddle shifters were just for the V grade models.
DeleteIn this updated one, the G A/T and V models all get paddle shifters. I just had to add the line "(V models, G gasoline model)" to avoid potential confusion that only the G gasoline got them.
Uly, what we mean is that all the models already have paddle shifters from the start, the specs were wrong from the get-go. Meaning, all the G variants, gas & diesel, already had it, so that's nothing new. Also, the color of the fabric seats/upholstery for the G variants were changed from yellow-orange to dark brown now.
DeleteThe basis is the specs for 2016 before. It said there that paddle shifters weren't equipped originally for the G grade. But noted on that... Perhaps there was an interim change too?
DeleteAs for the seats, you're the second person to commend that. I guess they did change the seat color... There is no mention of that in the spec sheets or brochure... But I'll include that also in the story! Thanks.
Okay, I stand corrected. Paddle shifters were standard even for G models. I've removed them from the new equipment list.
DeleteLMAO at the specs of the Fortuner even with that small upgrade. You can get a Montero or Everest at a cheaper price with better specs.
ReplyDeleteToyota has been disrespecting us Filipinos for decades already. Imagine the equipment level our SEA neighbors gets as compared to us here.
Filipinos love putting "Kaming mga naaapi" twist into every issue. This is pure market positioning tactics on the part of toyota. Nothing more nothing less
DeleteOh, here comes the Toyota apologist.
DeleteOh I'm sorry to disappoint you sir but I drive a Mazda CX5 Diesel
DeleteMake no mistake, Toyotas deserve their following. But I will never buy one because I want something with a little bit of character. Don't be so quick to assume nagmumukha kang tanga. Bastos!
Delete"Filipinos love putting kaming mga naapi twist into every issue"
DeleteYou were the first one to assume not me. I was just commenting solely about what Toyota is doing and not something else.
So sino sa atin ang quick to assume? Read carefully first para hindi ka tatanga tanga!
P.S. Nobody cares about your cramped CX5. I drive a midsize but i don't brag about it. A car with a lesser retail price will smoke your car, sir.
Deleteits not a car, its crossover. you have a loose nut in your head dimwit. Mag aral ka muna bago ka mag post dito
DeleteKaasar talaga yang "ANONYMOUS" na yan. Mag brag ba naman na may CX5 siya. LOL.
DeleteYeah right, Crossover. As if not everyone knows the word "car" is a generalized term.
DeleteWhen a Toyota apologist resorts to name calling. LOL
Only for HS undergraduates like you, sulking in bitterness because the mid 80s mid-size "CAR" you inherited from your tatay is covering all other cars in black smoke because it's in need of engine overhaul LOL
DeleteIn your wildest dreams, Toyota apologist. LOL
DeleteReally? You don't brag about your camry 3.5L V6 that you keep mentioning in numerous posts in this website? If that isn't bragging, I don't what it is. Hypocrisy is rife...
Deletehe's your average pinoy that loves to show off and attacking people who does so too.
Deletewith these minor updates it makes a great value proposition. specially the gas model cheaper than most competitors while having some extra features for the price mainly the automatic air-con control aand that's it lol. this is from my point of view. I've been around more types of cars than you guys can even dream of. toyotas last. I have a last gen toyota fortuner gas model and it still runs as good as the day it left the show room. I take care of that car now since it was passed to me. dad has a new prado and guess what my cousin told me when he visited? it looks head and shoulders better interior and equipment wise than the saudi counterpart. of course engines are mechanical stuff are the same but manufacturers in other countries can cheap out on the materials in the car. compared to the everest the suspension on the fortuner I think is a little harsher but engine wise expect the toyota engines to last longer with less breaks down the line. fords aren't reliable and that's their thing they dont make things "tough" they hardly ever last 10 years without needing a replacement of a vital part in electronics or mechanical parts like fuel filters or injectors things we dont expect to go wrong with toyotas or hondas go wrong in most american cars. example, the explorer has tons of problems from failing steering system to transmission problems and engine problems. when you buy a car you dont put on fanboy hats okay? so why does it happen? 2 reasons. 1. direct injection: so gas is injected directly in the engine(duh) but before they used to be port injected so they pass by the valves and gas has good cleaning properties so problems with the headers and ports of the engine blocks were relatively non existent before.2.fuels are not as clean as before simply because of ethanol. ethanol can really gunk up your engine with time this is why you should invest in an engine cleaner a good one that can really lift dirt and gunk away from the engine. now why are toyotas boring? usually because they use things that are as sure as possible specially when it comes to mechanical parts like the engine and transmission. think about it why hasnt toyota added start stop to their cars here? 2 reasons again. 1.in the school of auto engineering they say that starting an engine from dead would take 10 minutes worth of idling time. and 2.it strains the hell out of the starter motor even if they put hardened ones it will still need regular replacing then. I hate people who talk shit because they're fanboys of a brand or hate a brand. when anybody asks me to find them a suitable car I look for 3 main thing.1.reliability: how good are all the components. 2. drivability: how it drives and 3.needs: features you're looking for. you need to balance this 3 if you want to have a happy purchase.
if you're going to go online to bash other people for picking cars you like as well or not you've got to be 7 years old or something, and don't call yourself a car guy.
I mention it due to aggressive personalities asking me what do i drive. What do you want me to say, tell them that i drive a jeepney? Think.
DeleteI even mentioned here, midsize sedan instead of being specific.
Oh hey, here the comes another "carguy" who thinks he knows above everybody.
DeletePinasa lang pala sayo ng tatay mo yang lumang Fortuner nya eh pinagyayabang mo pa.
"Compared to the Everest, the Fortuner i think is a little harsher". Gotcha fanboy!
DeleteThe Watts link suspension of the Everest is leaps and bounds better than the Fortuner. So good that it's almost Crossover like in terms of comfort. Fortuner lang yata alam mo eh.
For what staying your car for 2 weeks in ford casa small repair is that what you means, good? forget ford. we love Toyota for service after sale and parts reliability, any where you can purchase every single parts.
DeleteIt's great we have people like you. It makes the waiting list on the fortuner a whole lot shorter lol
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Fortuner sir. While im in a agonizing 3 months waiting period for my Civic RS. Lol
DeleteYour explanation about the paddle shifter got me confused. You mean to say the G A/T diesel now have it too?
ReplyDeleteG diesel A/T has no paddle shifters. The G gasoline does have it though.
Deletei have the 2016 G AT and it comes with the paddle shifter :| its usable. No cruise control though.
DeleteWTF, Toyota increased the prices before the excise tax increase?
ReplyDeleteSo arrogant. Buy Honda diesel! It has more passive safety features like cruise control, stability control, hill start assist, reverse camera, etc. And it's a proper crossover, not a truck disguised as an suv. At almost the same price!
get the subaru xv or forester...
ReplyDeletethese days only idiots buy toyotas. specs are cr@p. the cars are super bland, have no personality. periodic maintenance is a SCAM! imagine having to bring your toyota 4x a year to the casa! quality isn't that great either, honda easily beats them in quality of the car itself, as well as quality of aftersales.
ReplyDeleteThey're dominating sales so they will keep on abusing, but theyre reliable. What would you guys pick the toyota chr or the hrv?
DeleteExpect the CHR to be stripped off with essential specs just like other Toyota vehicles. Better to choose the HRV EL.
DeleteCompletely agree with you. Ive always had this sickness of giving a chance toyota would get competitive the next time around. The HRV in metal isnt as exciting even in top spec. Thats my dilemma
ReplyDeleteCheck out the Subaru XV, Forester and the CX3. Could be a better option for you sir.
DeleteThe CX3 though is really cramped. But Mazda offers a free 5 year maintenance instead of their advertised 3 year free.
Toyota is the best. The vios even in 1.3L will eat the mazda 2 and honda city for breakfast!!! Same with fortuner, it's the fastest on the road! Kita naman sa highway sila ang mabibilis! Walang binatbat yang ugly montero and cheap everest niyo!
ReplyDelete....um ok sir
DeleteThe vios is an okay car, but the honda city is better overall and the vios' driving dynamics and build quality is mediocre compared to the Mazda 2.
DeleteActually the suzuki ciaz is the fastest (according to autoactiv) and the best overall.
DeleteNaka drugs si fanboy.
Deleteung fort mo, ang wlng bnatbat 2017 mnty
Deletenice, I love Toyota so much
DeleteFastest on the road? Hell no! Baka kahit sa honda city or jazz di umabot ang fortuner, your comment only shows that you dont know anything about fortuner, or in any vehicle i should say, what you said was a product of your ignorance
ReplyDeletePanlaban ko sa TF is SK lang..
ReplyDeleteSsangyong Korando base model..
Power
Space
Price
Toyota relies too much on its brand. It's getting complacent whereas its competition are clawing into their market share because they learn that owning a renowned badge isn't enough.
ReplyDeletecoz there's this MYTH that toyota parts are cheap. well that's only true for that super old corolla from last century. try shopping around for parts for current model toyotas. same price din as other brands, mas mura pa yung ibang brands.
Deletepinoys kasi, like being lied to and raped. yes toyota's 4x a year periodic maintenance is rape
Toyota Fortuner is overprice. The 4x2 V is almoat the same as the Chevrolet 4x4 z71...
Sa 3x a year may 21k. 2228-1881=347/21=16.5 yrs. of maintenance budget. Abutin pa ng halos 17 taon bago makabawi ang Fortuner.
ReplyDeleteThe new upgrade version still doesn't have rear view camera while their competitor are standard equip.
ReplyDeleteActually the problem is Toyota is still getting the lion's share in vehicle sales in the Philippines. They have that freedom to increase prices vs competitors because people will still buy them. Why would you give discounts if you still can sell them at the price you want.
ReplyDeleteI agree sir! Kahit itaas p toyota ang price, but still, those toyota brand worshipers will still buy them, choose monty over fortuner, u'll not regret it
ReplyDeleteMonty could've have been a good alternative. But the looks man, I'm not digging it. Those fat face and bleeding butt. It's just soo ugly. Mitsu should fire the designer team and make a fast make over.
DeleteAn average of 80k for very simple upgrades? Hogwash!
ReplyDeleteyou guys are like my titos and his friends in a family gathering with inuman i love to watch and listen. but every time i butt in with my argument about the currtent montero vs fortuner, isa lang ang sinasabi ko.
ReplyDeleteMontero (Ethel Booba all dolled up goinf to party) < Fortuner (Mikee-cojuanco jaworski aattend ng binyag) followed up by. Who would u rather? LOL PEACE
I was going to buy the Montero GLS premium but was "encouraged" to buy the refreshed Fortuner V dsl. I still think the Montero is a safer/better buy with all the safety features as standard.
ReplyDeleteWe have the same problem. I'm also confused between fortuner and montero.. but did u know na meron Montero 4x4 MT na may big discount na 297k? Isa yan sa kino-consider ko ang laki ksi dscount.. full pack na din ang features... leather seats na din.
ReplyDeletemga sir ok ba ung G AT variant ng forty (latest model)? or any recommended brand/model with the same price value? newbie here. Thanks in advance.
ReplyDeletetoyota fortuner does not increase it's price, check the website, i go to their shop... no changes. the agent offered me 2018 2.4 G AT at 1,555,000 ... i took it.
ReplyDeleteThe P 1,555,000 is the new price.
Deleteyes sir, that's the new price! i got mine last may at P1,503,000
DeleteFord everest trend 4x2 A/t or toyota fortuner 4x2 G A/t ?
ReplyDeleteSir uly pa advice po, NEWBIE OFW PO planing to buy this December before the New Tax kicks in.. im choosing between Everest 2.2 Amb 4x2 MT, Fortuner 4x2 G MT & Montero Glx 4x2 MT. All base vars nila and I like manual trans(personal pref). pref ko is space, safety, price wise, comfort. For family kasi, planing to replace my old Super Tamarax.. lol.. thanks in advance..
