Are Philippine Market Vehicles Affected by the Huge Nissan Recall?
Nissan is recalling approximately 1.21 million vehicles produced between October 2014 to September 2017 at the cost of 25 billion-yen (~ 11.31 P billion) because they do not meet the Japanese market (JDM) requirement for final inspection.
The problem was confirmed at all of Nissan’s assembly plants in Japan and covers various makes and models including the all-new Leaf.
Under Japan’s safety examination system, the car manufacturers must carry out a final inspection of each vehicle on behalf of the national government immediately before it is shipped. This non-compliance means that Nissan must re-inspect the affected vehicles at its dealership service centers throughout Japan.
In order to prevent this occurrence from happening again, the company has formed a team that includes an independent third-party to investigate the causes and implement the necessary countermeasures.
Nissan Motor has clarified that only vehicles sold in the Japanese domestic market are affected. There is no problem at overseas plants due to a different safety inspection system.
With several Nissan vehicles sold locally built in Japan including the Juke, GT-R, and Urvan, Nissan Philippines, Inc. (NPI) says that no Philippine market vehicle is affected by the non-compliance recall.
