LTO: We're Going to Release Your Plates by March 2018
In a press statement, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) says that the release of new plate numbers will commence by March 2018.
According to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante, the LTO has chosen a new plate supplier which will manufacture them locally using imported materials. The winning bidder is Trojan Computer Forms Manufacturing Corporation and J.H. Tonnjes E.A.S.T. GmbH & Co. KG Joint Venture which was awarded the contract worth P 978.8 million in December 2017.
Currently, the LTO is facing a backlog of Motor Vehicle (MV) and Motorcycle (MC) license plates stretching up to 4 years (2014-2018). This includes the 700,000 license plates that were held by the Bureau of Customs after its then supplier-importer failed to pay the required customs duties in 2016.
UPDATE (12/10): It looks like the March 2018 time frame is too good to be true. The LTO clarified that only vehicles registered in 2016 will be getting their plates by then.
i read somewhere that we also have to pay up again
ReplyDeleteYup. That's the beauty of this administration. They want the vehicle owners to shell out again what has been paid for and waited for years. Double jeopardy!
