Ford Philippines Releases Much-Awaited Post-TRAIN Car Prices
With the country’s second-best selling pickup, the Ranger in their line-up, everyone is holding their breath for Ford Philippines to release their vehicle prices taking into account the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion or TRAIN Law. Well, the wait is finally over.
Ford is yet another carmaker that boasts of a full line-up with everything from subcompact hatchbacks to full-blown luxury SUVs. As such, the effect of Republic Act 10963 (aka TRAIN) can be clearly appreciated in this announcement. Ultimately, the resulting SRPs are all over the place with some vehicles going up, some going down, and remarkably, some staying exactly where they are.
Although its passenger car offerings should have been hit with some sort of increase, Ford Philippines has decided to maintain the prices of its Fiesta and Focus. The Fiesta maintains its prices ranging from P 755,000 to P 905,000 while the Focus stays put with prices from P 1,088,000 to P 1,278,000.
It’s Ford’s SUV line-up that has seen the brunt of the increase with the EcoSport, Everest, Explorer, and Expedition all going up effective today. The EcoSport goes up anywhere between 5 to 10 percent, the biggest hit of which is the mid-trim 1.5 Trend model.
Meanwhile, the segment-defining Everest has gone up from anywhere between 2 to 8.5 percent. The biggest increase goes to the base Ambiente model (8.51 percent), with the increase gradually going down from there. The least hit is actually the 3.2 Titanium 4x4 Premium which sees just a 2.19 percent increase to P 2,288,000.
Ford’s North American SUVs have also gone up post-TRAIN. The Explorer is up around 5 percent to P 2,748,000 for the 2.3 Limited and P 3,118,000 for the 3.5 Sport while the Expedition is up a whopping 13.58 percent to P 4,208,000. Among Ford’s entire Philippine line-up, it’s this full-sized SUV that gets hit the most. So, if you got one of these before January kicked in, you’ve just made a good decision.
The only sportscar in Ford’s line-up, the Mustang has also seen some modest increases for 2018 ranging from 6.5 to 8 percent. Prices now sit at P 2,748,000 for the 2.3 EcoBoost and P 3,358,000 for the 5.0 GT.
Going to pick-up trucks, Ford has followed Toyota’s lead and dropped the price of its Ranger across the entire model range. Prices are down anywhere between 4.5 percent to 7.3 percent. The biggest droppers are actually the upper trim models—the FX4, Wildtrak 4x2, and Wildtrak 4x4. The Wildtrak 4x4 sees the most reduction in price: P 111,000 (P 1,628,000) from its December 2017 price.
Comparing this to our December predictions, we pretty much nailed it once more with variances limited to at most 5.44 percent. Our closest prediction was the EcoSport 1.5 Titanium where we were off just 0.61 percent followed by the Everest at 1.06 percent, and the Ranger at 1.54 percent. We were more off with our predictions on the Ranger (5.17 percent variance) and Explorer (5.44 percent variance). We actually predicted that the Ranger and Explorer would be priced higher, but it seems Ford Philippines was able to find a way to pass on more savings to the consumer.
About time to bring the all-new Exped. Cheers to future pickup buyers.
ReplyDeleteDoes Ford still sell the Ranger Single Cab variant? How will its price be affected by the new tax scheme? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe cab chassis variant didn’t move in price.
DeleteThe hell with ford mustang.. and i was planning for this year.. is this effective immediately..?
DeleteYup. It's effective immediately.
DeleteI still don't understand why Mitsubishi increased in price for its Strada. I don't see much demand for it to justify increasing its price.
