The TRAIN stops for no one. After holding out last January, The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCI), the exclusive distributor of Chevrolet vehicles in the country has finally released their new vehicle prices taking into account the revised new vehicle excise tax.
Chevrolet has taken on an interesting marketing strategy during this round of price increases. Unlike BMW which decided to increase prices across the entire range (when its competitors in the same bracket actually reduced prices), Chevrolet has done the somewhat opposite.
Fast selling vehicles have all seen increases, but Chevrolet has frozen the prices of other products, absorbing the excise tax increase in the process.
For February, Chevrolet Philippines is keeping the prices of the Cruze, Malibu, and Captiva as they were.
Vehicles such as the Spark, Sail, and Trax have all seen increases within the 6 to 13 percent range. Heaviest hit are the higher variants of the Spark and lower variants of the Sail which sees their SRPs jump up by as much as P 97,000. The Trax LT is also heavily taxed, levied with an increase of P 177,000. This brings its price to a rather prohibitive P 1,535,888.
Meanwhile, the brand’s bread-and-butter models—the Colorado and Trailblazer have moved in opposite directions.
As expected, the Colorado has gone down (except for the 2.5 LT 4x2 MT) thanks to its exemption under TRAIN. Prices are down as much as P 118,000 or 7 percent compared to SRPs last December. On the other hand, the Trailblazer has gone up anywhere between 6 to 17 percent. One particular variant, the 2.5 LT MT has gone up P 240,000!
On the luxury end, Chevrolet has managed to drop the price of its Suburban full-sized SUV by 7-14 percent. The top-of-the-line 5.3 LTZ 4x4 AT has dropped its value some P 900,000 almost overnight. In other words, if you got yourself one of Chevy’s flagship SUVs last December, tough luck.
Compared to our December predictions, it turns out we were just 1.19 percent off the Trailblazer 2.8 Z71. Not bad.
A hat tip goes out to reader Pertrucci Schubach for letting us know of these updates.
