Foton Philippines Goes Euro 4, Launches A/T Variant of Thunder Pick-Up Truck
Foton Philippines is ushering a new era of clean diesel engines by launching a range of vehicles powered by the Euro 4 compliant Blue Energy technology. Specifically engineered and built for Foton by Cummins, Foton Philippines has unveiled its “blue energized” models in both the passenger car and light-duty truck segments.
“Blue energized” this 2018, are the Foton Tornado 2.4C, Tornado 4.4C, Tornado 4.8C, and all new Tornado M4.2C in the light-duty truck segment, while in the passenger car segment, the Traveller van, Toano executive MPV, and Thunder pickup truck join the Toplander SUV as being all Euro 4 compliant.
The installation of this new Blue Energy diesel engine has also enabled Foton to install a 6-speed automatic into the Thunder 4x2 pickup truck. Offering 165 horsepower and 365 Nm of torque, the Thunder 4x2 A/T also receives more standard features and equipment including a touchscreen infotainment system, dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, stability control (ESP) with hill descent control and hill start assist, and reverse parking sensors.
“The company has always been committed to providing exceptional product lines through
scientific and technological innovation,” said Foton Motor Philippines president Rommel Sytin. “Blue Energy is a continued expression of this promise, a product of earnest R&D that serves up a host of benefits such as power, durability, reliability, efficiency, and clean operation.”
The new Foton Cummins ISF 2.8 and 3.8 Euro 4 engines are designed to deliver lower intake temperatures, thereby preventing abnormalities in the combustion process. This allows these engines to operate more quietly while providing improved low-end pulling power. This heighted performance is also complemented by better fuel consumption.
Five new elements define the new engine: a more efficient turbocharger; an excellent exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) system to yield lower emission and promote more thorough burning of fuel; a new, computer-governed common rail direct injection system that results in optimized air/fuel mix; a diesel oxidizing catalyst and particle oxidizing catalyst which basically convert carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons, and particulates to carbon dioxide and water; and an improved turbo intercooler.
Foton vehicles equipped with Blue Energy engines will have telltale decals to identify them. Pricing for all Blue Energy models will be announced soon.
